Summary: Another Great movie by a great director
Review: After seeing the movie "A Man For All Seasons" I thought there was no movie I would ever see that was as good. But after viewing "The Mission", I stand corrected. "The Mission" was a superb movie portraying love, compassion, and hope. Viewing this movie gives people a better understanding of forgiveness and acceptance. It shows how a person can completely turn their life around, to a life of God. I think that all people should be able to witness this movie and be able to experience the enormous amounts of love and forgiveness.

Summary: A Marvelous Educational Tool
Review: I am a school teacher and have used this film as a teaching tool in my American History classes, in part, and as a whole, for more than fifteen years. Yes, it has some historical inaccuracies, but good history is also a good story. And what a heroic, tragic story this is. This film brilliantly portrays the honest efforts of Jesuits to spread the word of God, and how those efforts often ran head first into the interests of those who wished to profit, including the Catholic Church itself. Jeremy Irons portrayal as a dedicated cleric brings tears to ones eyes and Robert De Niro's redemption at the hands of the Amazon Indians and conversion to the priesthood is a remarkable story in itself. Some people view it as an anti-Christian film, my opinion is quite the opposite. The Jesuits in this film are characters to be emulated and admired.

Summary: A Paragon
Review: This movie is one of the best ever made. It has everything: a superb cast, superb cinematography, superb music, and a superb story. The story, while perhaps not as historically accurate as some might like, is a sublime allegory of the multiple conflicts arising from man's (fallen or sinful) condition and how various sorts of men deal with them individually and institutionally. The theological dilemmas and implications (again, on both the individual and institutional levels) are, for the Christian, exquisite. But even the non-Christian cynic, existentialist, or humanist must find this film incredibly provocative - if not downright profound - as well.

Summary: When you have De Niro & Irons...
Review: You are sure you got a great movie. U should be a historian to know if it's a correct appreciation of how the colonial movement took really place. But, if you're just a Robert de Niro's fan, you know for sure you got a great result. Moreover, this is the only place where I could find this picture. ...Those landscapes would look great, and it would honor the photography. --This text refers to the VHS Tape edition

Summary: A fine movie in the old style
Review: This movie is a favorite of mine because of its adherence to the old principles of movie-making: beautiful cinematography and attention to detail. The movie isn't trying to make you jump in suprise, but to immerse you into its characters and its scenery.
If you feel a need to have an action sequence or plot twist every five minutes, this is not the movie for you. If you enjoyed the languid plot development of movies such as The Deer Hunter, which aim to tell a human story rather than to force a series of exciting moments, then you will love this movie.

Summary: One of the most touching movies in history!
Review: Though 15 years has passed, this movie has not met a match. It is an unforgettable and moving story of human kind.

Summary: The Mission - Marvelous and Moving
Review: I had viewed this movie a few years back on VHS. It stirrs the spirit.Truly stunning in terms of photography and the musical score is enchanting. The storyline is very gripping which is a study of personalities of two jesuits - Mendoza (De Niro) and Gabriel (Irons) - striving for a common goal but with different mindsets. The acting especially of Jeremy Irons is remarkable.
A Must-See Movie. Simply Great. Awaiting the DVD release of this movie.
