Summary: The Mission: One the greatest films of all time
Review: When I saw this film for the first time, I had no expectations at all. When the credits rolled, I was just sitting there in awe. It stirred my emotions as few films have. I have been looking for this film on the dvd format for years now, and eagerly await its release. This film is at the top of my must own movie list. Hopefully others share this opinion, and hopefully the studio will release it on dvd soon.

Summary: A Must See - On DVD, Please
Review: Absolutely one of the finest portrayals of the founding of the Americas (Brazil). I am a history buff who has been to Brazil many times and this film electrifys me. My VHS copy has worn out because I recommend it so highly and lend it out so many times. I will not buy another VHS: I have to have it on DVD. Please Tell me when it comes out and I will spread the word!

Summary: God's Will - Man's Reaction
Review: This is one of my favourite movies. Only a DVD format and DTS sound will do justice to the cinematography and the soundtrack.
The storyline is gripping and thoughtprovoking. It is about how two men of the cloth (de niro and jeremy irons)react to the will of God in the best way they can to defend the natives from the greedy imperialist designs of the colonists.
Why is this movie still not out on DVD in spite of it being given a sales ranking of 825 by amazon and a ranking of No.13 in Latin America. I guess this movie was released by Catalyst logic on 01.01.02 but am confused that it is not available on amazon.
Is there a chance that it will be out on DVD shortly. I'm waiting.

Summary: The FILM IS FIVE STARS!
Review: This is the one film that I HAVE to have on DVD. I won't put five stars here because of the limitations of the vhs format.
PLEASE PUT THIS ON DVD! I will buy 5 copies for members of my family. It is one of the most beautiful and learning experiences I've had in the movie theater. WE ARE WAITING!

Summary: what are the producers waiting for??
Review: I have been searching for the DVD version of The Mission for a long time. Why aren't the producers releasing this on DVD??? The Mission is by far the most thought provoking, poignant, spiritually uplifting, emotionally engaging movies of all time. Not to mention spectacular cinematography and the most haunting score Ennio Morricone has ever written.

Only a DVD format will do this movie justice. And I certainly will not cave by buying this on VHS.

De Niro and Irons play Jesuit priests entangled in a time of political and religious conflicts in South America. The crux of the film is when they deal with "God's Will" in the only way they know how: when political ambitions marginalise native society through destruction - one fights for his beliefs and religion by the sword while the other defends by the cross.

It will be a service to movie buffs everywhere if the producers could release this on DVD NOW.

Summary: Politics and Religion
Review: When I first saw this film on the big screen, I wanted to walk out based on the inhumane treatment of indiginous people. I was admonished to stay and get my moneys worth and see what the film had to say. I was glad I did. It exposes the abuse of the indiginous people to the politics and religion of the time. I have the vhs and sound track and am awaiting the dvd in wide screen because the scenery is magnificent. This film has a message. Politics, Religion, respect for indiginous culture, and teaching music, values, and the power struggle of the Europeans nations. This is a motion picture that opens a lot of dialog. See it and remember our inhumanity to man.

Summary: Amazing
Review: This is one of the most touching movies I have ever seen. As a Christian, the attitude of Jeremy Iron's character is one we should all hope to emulate - sacrificial, loving, and above all else interested in serving God. It's an inspiration.

My favorite part of the movie by far was the debate between De Niro and Irons over whether or not the Jesuits should resist the soldiers coming to kill or capture them. It's an argument that still rages on in the Church - whether or not we should physically resist evil.

I cried when the native priest was forced to disrobe by the soldiers burning down the monastery. It's so sad to see such things, even when dramatized in a movie.

Basically, this is one the most touching, moving, breath taking movies ever to have been made.

Summary: Fantastic!
Review: Easily one of the most powerful and moving motion pictures I have ever SEEN, and HEARD. The cinematography is breathtaking. No one should be limited to the TV format of this movie which demands the wide screen. I am in disbelief that this film is still not available on DVD. Ennio Morricone's score is outstanding - Beautiful! Get the soundtrack, turn up the bass and the volume, a glass of wine...whoa!

Summary: A Timeless Story of Civilisation
Review: The impact of the movie's theatre release, has stayed with me to this day. I regard this as "my movie of all time", due to the emotional impact of the story, the visual interpretation of the Director, and combined with the powerful, stirring and, at times, fragile music that comes together to "move" the audience to a deeper understanding of social issues. It is not just another example of mans' inhumanity to man, but it tells the story of a peace-loving, indigenous tribe of people caught in the path of civilisation pushing to the corners of the earth - and all the selfish traits that society brings with it. The story is repeated over and over in modern times, where popular belief overrides those of minority opinion with the usual destructive force engineered by man himself. Excellent direction, superb performances by de Niro and Jeremy Irons, the producers should look seriously at releasing this movie on DVD for our home enjoyment.
