Summary: Quite possibly the funniest movie ever made
Review: I've seen Raising Arizona far more times than I can count. It is, in my humble opinion, next to Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove the most original, inventive comedy ever made.

The dialogue is absolutely razor-sharp -- plenty of examples are certainly readily available in the reviews preceding this one -- and the camera work is wonderful, as well. I'd rank Raising Arizona a VERY close second to Miller's Crossing in a list of the Coen's best films. It is admittedly not as visually stylish as Miller's Crossing (then again, very few films ever made are), and the storyline is not as cohesive as Miller's Crossing, Fargo, or Barton Fink. However, the film is so full of verbal gems that it definitely ranks as the Coen's best dialogue writing effort. Cage and Hunter are wonderful, and John Goodman and William Forsythe are absolutely perfect as the Snopes brothers.

Admittedly, the DVD is nothing very special. All you really get is the more durable medium and a widescreen format. Some kind of "The Making of..." mini-documentary, or better yet, a commentary option with two or three of the actors, the director of photography, or ideally the Coens themselves would have been a priceless addition to the DVD.

Summary: Mesmerizing
Review: The Coen brothers have not made a bad movie, and I am hard pressed to name a favorite. This is the first of their movies I ever saw so it holds a place in my heart for getting me hooked on their movies. Funny beyond belief yet touching on many levels. My only complaint is Holly Hunter's accent which ironically seems fake to me yet she has a Southern accent. Go figure.

Summary: Well, OK then!
Review: This movie has the longest cold opening in the history of film, that I know of. The first 20 minutes (before the titles) grabs you like a harpoon and you're off on the wild ride! This film has some of the best camera work and editing you'll ever see, evidenced by similar long, wild tracking shots in Sonnenfeld's cinematography. While working at LA's Mark Taper Forum with actress Susan Egan, she told me that Raising Arizona had been made into a stage musical featuring a song "Gotta get his Dip-tet!" Wow. Note: these songs are not in the movie, just a play by some students; the Raising Arizona movie soundtrack by Carter Burwell is fantastic.

Summary: Warped, surreal and hilarious
Review: This is a _fuuny_ movie. I was especially taken with heavyweight ex-boxer Randall "Tex" Cobb (who was known for a concrete head and no punch)as the villain -- he's so evil he blows up bunny rabbits with what appears to be atomic hand grenades (they leave mushroom clouds), and when he roars down the highway on his Harley wildflowers on the side of the road burst into flames! According to the reviews below, this film doesn't appeal everyone's taste (which I don't understand) but it sure appealed to mine. One of my favorite movies.

Summary: A DVD review
Review: A average DVD. Nothing makes this DVD stand out, but the quality isn't bad either. A OK DVD to have in your collection if you like the movie. Holly Hunter gives an excellent performance. This is a DVD that I would look for on the discount rack.

Summary: Bizarre One of a Kind Comedy!
Review: The twisted sense of humor of the Cohen Brothers is definitely bizarre but it is also very funny and very entertaining. Hilarious performances by Holly Hunter, Nicolas Cage and John Goodman. The opening sequence and the chase scenes are brilliant, and the whole film is bursting with energy. Kinetic pace, hilarious situations and a fun score make this one extremely entertaining if you like your comedies bizarre. The Cohen brothers have a lot to offer and I hope they keep on making good films. From a scale of 1-10 I give this film an 8!

Summary: High.
Review: As far as comedies go this is a classic. It's actually funny, and that's what gives a comedy its lifeblood. Nicolas Cage is at his best, the Coen brothers do a great job directing, John Goodman is hilarious, Holly Hunter is great. The story is interesting and well written. If you haven't seen this movie you ought to. To me, this movie is a must have for any film collector.

Review: BOUGHT THE VHS COPY OF THIS MOVIE YEARS AGO IN THE DISCOUNT RACK AT WALLMARTS. HAD'NT SEEN IT PREVIOUSLY SO HAD NO IDEA HOW HILLARIOUS IT WAS! I CONSIDER IT A "CULT" CLASSIC BECAUSE WHEN YOU WATCH IT YOU EITHER DON'T GET IT AT ALL OR YOU LAUGH UNTILL YOUR SIDES SPLIT.THIS IS A GOOD SIGN TO ME OF A CULT MOVIE AS THEY USUALLY DON'T CLICK WITH EVERYBODY.I NEVER GET TIRED OF WATCHING DUE TO THE FACT YOU WILL FIND SOMETHING NEW TO LAUGH AT EVERY TIME.LOVE THE ELOQUENCE OF THE DIALOUGE BY THE SUPPOSED "DIRTBAG HICKS". THE STUNTS AND CAR CHASE SCENES ARE EXCELLENT AND NOT TOO FAR FETCHED TO BELIEVE.I PLAN TO BUY THE DVD VERSION TOO.

Summary: Off-Kilter Humor for Those Wanting More than Adam Sandler
Review: This movie made me laugh out loud, which not enough comedies do. It is filled with dry, almost throwaway lines that make rewatching the film a pleasure as you detect and savor the ironies and skewed views on life. I bought it on VHS, and now DVD. I was astounded when a friend of mine told me he didn't like it at all - one reason he gave is that the plot is about kidnapping a baby in order to create a "normal" family, and he thought that was sick. But then I found out that my friend likes A Fish Named Wanda which has so-called humorous scenes involving killing dogs and pet fish. Well, to each his own. In this film, the stars are weird but not bad people. And it has a happy ending without killing animals or people!

Review: Funniest film to come out of America since Blazing Saddles. But what in the wide, wide world of sports is a crawdad?
