Summary: Not bad, but not his "Best"
Review: I am a big fan of "Waiting for Guffman", director Christopher Guest's previous effort, so I was anxiously awaiting "Best In Show". I was slightly disappointed, but in saying that I still urge everybody to check this movie out. It just simply is not as funny as "Guffman", but still is very amusing. Guest's talents at documenting while mocking are priceless.

Summary: Best In Show is really the Best!
Review: Although this film is a little out there, and is not the normal comedy, something about it is irresistable!! Even though it's not at all serious, and isn't very deep, I found myself laughing the whole way through. The characters are delightful and hilarious to watch!! As a Parker Posey fan, I thought she was great in this movie! (and in josie and the pussycats). I recommend this crack-up movie to anyone who likes to laugh.

Summary: Funny, medicated or not
Review: I watched this videeo several times this week....I was nursing and injured leg and confined to the couch. The first time I saw this, I was laughing all the way through. But, I had to wonder, was it the movie or the medications? Subsequent viewings have confirmed this is a sly and witty look at the world of dog shows and the people who frequent them. Christopher Guest has once again created a "mocumentry", and this time he skewers the dog show world. The all out competition, the angst, the money, the turmoil and the inevitable defeat. A wonderful cast of characters, especially former SCTV regulars Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara, along with Ed Begley Jr, Guest (as a truly believable coon hound lover), Michael McKean, and the wonderously dense Fred Willard. The bit with the dog on the couch is hilarious.... The one false note...Parker Posey as the all too brittle and grating yuppie dog owner. Posey's character and the character's husband are so irritating! With the exception of the two of them, the cast is delightful.

Summary: Cute!
Review: This film wasn't a laugh out loud experience, but it is still funny. All of the actors are great, especially Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy. This is a refreshing film with lots of laughs and is very entertaining!

Summary: Cute but a little over the top
Review: I can understand why all of my friends love this film. It's done in a fake-documentary way, complete with nutty characters that are overly enthusiastic about their pets. But the movie becomes overreaching by the end, and you feel it's lost some of its subtlety. It was good, and I recommend seeing it, but you got the impression it could have been better.

Summary: LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY
Review: Christopher Guest, creator of Waiting for Guffman, has done it again!! This was just as funny and entertaining as Guffman if not funnier!!! I have watched real dogshows, and to watch this send up on one, is hysterically funny! IF you love the "mockumentary" style film this is an excellent choice. I loved the Norich Terrier, he was the cutest dog I've ever seen!! This is a fun move -- it's consistently funny, no boring drawn out parts where you ask yourself, "is this really funny?"

And all the actors/actresses have perfect comedic timing. I just might buy this as I think it would be a great addition to any collection.

Summary: Not even an average comedy
Review: I watched this expecting a great laugh riot and didn't even get an occasional chuckle. The beginning has the hand-held camera feel a la Blair Witch, though the camera seems to become steady about a half-hour into the film. I'd heard that very little of this was actually scripted and it seems evident when watching as the actors seem to be grabbing for words or ideas out of thin air - it was a lot like watching an improv class. The doggies were cute, but in general there was a lot of low-brow humor - a lot of references to previous ..exploits of one of the owners and some very awkward conversation about the psychological effects of a dog seeing it's Mommy and Daddy practicing the Kama Sutra.

Anyway, not something I would ever want to see again, but I did manage to stay awake.

Summary: Quite a few chuckles...
Review: This was not a laugh-out-loud movie for me, but I did chuckle many times. Much of the comedy is sly - not the kind of humor that hits you over the head. For example, look for the snack cracker that resembles a tongue, and also the "ancient art of ventriloquy" drawing. Each of those gags was only on the screen for a second or two, but funny! The casting was excellent, with SCTV vets O'Hara & Levy, and Spinal Tapsters Guest and McKean. Director Guest himself did a dead-on Southern accent as one of the dog owners. Even the bit parts were filled by little known but superb comic talents such as Don Lake & Larry Miller. The DVD extras give you your money's worth, especially the 17 deleted scenes and Guest's commentary with Levy. Unlike the average reviewer who automatically gives 5 stars to anything they see, I'm going with 4 stars for this one, since I got tired of the interplay between the announcers. Also, Mr. Levy's prosthetic buck teeth really annoyed me after awhile.

Summary: Mediocre
Review: This just isn't as good as Spinal Tap or Waiting for Guffman. Much of the film isn't funny and many of the jokes don't get any laughs.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: "...In some countries, these dogs are eaten."
Review: This was a funny, funny movie, to say the least. I've never seen "Waiting for Guffman", but "Spinal Tap" still makes me laugh to this day. My main attraction to this movie was Fred Willard(known lately for his hilarious "conversations" with Jay Leno on the Tonight Show). This man does wonders when it comes to improv, and this movie just displays that so well.

The film polks fun at Dog Shows(one event in which it's participants take itself WAAAAAAAAAY too serious). This is best displayed when Fred Willard, playing a commentator for the show, asks his partner if he could guess how much Fred benched in his prime. Also to mention his hilarious anecdote for dressing up a bloodhound in a Sherlock Holmes uniform, in order to "get the crowd pumped".

I liked this movie, and anyone a fan of mellow humor, rather than gross-out humor(Farrely Bros, etc.) should check this out. It's more of a comedy for people in their 30's and up, but I'm 15, and got a tremendous kick out of it. I won't touch down on the characters, because I'm sure you've read plenty on that already. But, if your in the mood for one hell of a comedy, or just a plain old Fred Willard fan like myself, this is definitely worth a view.
