Summary: A hauntingly beautiful film
Review: If you're looking for "Cotton Candy for the Soul," bypass this film. A collection of thoughts, prose, philosophical musings and beautiful photography, culled together to create a masterful film that reminds us of the power of love and the instinctual joy it brings us.

Summary: Absolute Genius
Review: I have seen a few other of Wim Wenders's films and this is the best. It starts in b&w and ends in color, a vital part of the story. If you have seen "City of Angels" and enjoyed the plot, this is better as far as suspense and torment. Very little voice track on it, but its a visual movie. The German actress is also in another good movie,"Until the End of the World". Good stuff, you got to see this if you like "art" movies.

Summary: This movie leaves me nearly speechless
Review: I don't even know how to review this one, but I really feel I ought to make the attempt. This is the most incredibly spiritual, uplifting movie I have ever seen. After 10 years, it is still fresh in my mind.

The spiritual messages in this movie are told beautifully, in poetic form. The questions I had while watching this are of the magnitude of -- not "why am I here" but "why did I decide to come to be here". Not "why does God allow people to experience pain at times" but "why did I decide to experience life".

My review cannot possibly do justice to this movie. I have never experienced a more spiritual work of art in my entire life than watching this film.

It's utterly beautiful, and I would love more than anything to be able to tell Mr. Wenders, "Thank you. I got it." This movie is a gift to us, and I would encourage everybody to avail themselves of it!

Summary: Truly awe-inspiring
Review: This is by far one of the best movies I have ever seen.

Tariel and Cassiel's exploration of humanity in Cold War Berlin is an experience to remember as are the human characters they're following.

Remember to see "Far Away, So Close" when you're done and join Cassiel on his own experiences on this mortal coil.

Summary: amazing film
Review: This is an amazing film. It was my favorite film of all time until Prospero's Books, and it still my second favorite. When are the going to be more Wim Wenders DVDs?

Summary: One of the all time greats!
Review: This is just an absolute masterpiece! Filmed in Cold War era Berlin, Wenders has done an excellent job of capturing Germans continuing preoccupation with the Second World War and the ghosts that still hang over the country. Plus, the story is pretty darn good on top of everything else!

Summary: A Soft Vision
Review: Wings of Desire is as much a poem for Berlin and the German people as it is for all of us. It is a poem of hope, compassion, breathtaking beauty, and deep thought. The film manages to re-create the sense of what it is to be present to our own movement - in our hearts and minds. But because this softness of vision is set amid the dislocated wastelands of Berlin (before the Wall came down), we are moved to greater depths of contemplation and compassion for human frailty.

Two Angels struggle with the reality of their existance. One of them so much so that only the completeness of the human condition can provide meaning. "City of Angels" (the Hollywood re-make) tried to communicate the essence of this story to a younger audience, but simply failed. Wings of Desire is a far far deeper, more profound and meaningful film which helps us to see beyond our selves and yet more completely ourselves.

I wish I could locate a copy of the screenplay. No luck so far.

Summary: a memorable film
Review: This isn't so much a movie, but rather a poem placed on celluloid. A chilling tale of an angel willing to part with his existence to become human - to experience life and love. Beautifully elegant, understated and utilizing a surprising cast to achieve a transcendant visual and thought-provoking piece, this film imparts a sense of childhood and an understanding of what truly matters.

Summary: fragmented simplicity
Review: Wenders' ode to humanity is possibly the greatest film ever made. Combining his trademark stunning visuals with the beautiful poetic language of Peter Handke, he manages to compose a film so full and rich that it requires repeated viewings to fully soak in its simple but universal themes. It is the story of man and woman. Of perception. Of beauty. Of life. Of now. I urge you to see this and pass it on to your closest friends. Better still, pass it on to your enemies and let them learn.
