Summary: I love It.
Review: As a person who will probablly never see a real stage show, I love this movie. Donny Osmond is perfect for this roll. "Close every door" is my favorite song. I have the movie and the cd. I believe it is a wonderful movie for children. An introduction to a bible story that makes it fun to learn. Alot of the reviews are being based on the real stage play, but if you've never seen the real play..... It's like reading the book and then seeing the movie. For us who have never seen the play on Broadway, it is a real treat and I'm glad to of had the opportunity to see it on video.

Summary: Big Disappointment
Review: Anyone who saw the stage production of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR RAINCOAT must be disappointed by the movie. The main problem is the staging of it as a play at a school, resulting in unrealistic and cutesy scenes of kids worshipfully smiling at singing adults. The music is good, but the narrator makes faces, and Danny Osmond with long hair and half-shaven looks like he just woke up from sleeping on the street. My advice if you have this video is to close your eyes, and just listen to the music.

Summary: Osmond's Finest Hour!
Review: Amazing is the first word that comes to mind. The songs are so catchy that every time I watch it I catch myself humming them for the next 3 days. The characters are very well cast, and very funny. The choreography and staging was very well done. Bravo!
My only gripe is those awful blue girls in the Pharoah scene. . .they look disgusting. Get rid of them, and put a little more clothing on Mrs. Potiphar and her girls, and I think this would be a a 5 star musical, and one that I would even aspire to audition for myself sometime.

Summary: Waste of money
Review: One of the few musicals that I regret spending the money on because of the absymal recording quality. The narrator was fairly easy to understand, but some sound track key singers were almost inaudible.

The tunes would have been most enjoyable if the technical quality was acceptable.

As one who enjoys musicals and muscial shows, I was very disappointed in the recording quality and video quality.

Summary: Something A Little Different.
Review: JOSEPH is an entertaining musical that has a little bit of everything for the entire family. Donny Osmond stars in this video version of the popular musical and he plays Joseph better than just about anyone else. Richard Attenborough portrays Jacob and Joan Collins has a non-singing cameo as Potiphar's Wife.

The music in this play is quite enjoyable and covers a variety of genres from pop to country to calypso. My personal favorite tune is the moving "Close Every Door". The set in the video is rather simplistic, though extremely lavishly decorated and many of the costumes are, well, "interesting".

The show has a couple of great morals (lessons in love and forgiveness) and other than the sexual innduendo and risque costumes in the Potiphar's Wife scene, the video is great for family. However, after watching this video I realized that Andrew Lloyd Webber may never had intended for the story to ever be taken seriously. For example, instead of displaying any of Joseph's noble qualities, he is portrayed as a buffoon until the end of the show. Also I could never quite figure out why all those kids are in the production; they are always distracting and take focus away from the story. After I watched this tape, it occurred to me that was the entire point. These things are subtle and just by listening to the soundtrack or even watching most school and church productions of the show they are nearly unnoticeable. However, they are there. It doesn't take anything away from this delightful musical because God's truth cannot be hidden, but it is something to think about.

Summary: One word: AWESOME!
Review: I absolutely loved this musical. I only fell asleep once (just kidding). The thing I liked about it is that the songs are very easy to remember and sing. After just hearing it once I was walking around singing some of the songs. Don't be put off because it's a Bible story, it doesn't really have much to do with the Bible and was a great story!

Also, I didn't really like Cats so if you don't either don't exclude Joseph just because of Cats!

Summary: Good, but could have been better...
Review: Having not watched any production of the show, I was glad when I learned that video format of the show has been released. I initially learned of the show when a cast recording featuring Jason Donovan was released some years ago. With the video format, I was also interested in the performance of Donnie Osmond as Joseph.

However, when I watched the video, I realized that it was not a recorded live performance. The production design has also been changed for cinematic effect. While the production concept was good, it seemed like I was watching a long music video. The video would have been better if a live performance was recorded so that the viewer would have a feeling of 'theater' while watching it (just like the video of 'Jekkyl & Hyde', which unfortunately featured David Hasselhoff, but that's another story). It would have been great if you know that the performers are really singing, not just lip-synching their lines.

Review: This one is a winner for both adults and children. Wonderful music, wonderful acting.

Summary: Sheer Fun!
Review: What a hoot! I was enchanted! When I brought the dvd home, my husband raised an eyebrow and said "you're going to make me watch THAT?" before turning back to his computer... 15 minutes into the movie, I caught him tapping his feet and whistling along under his breath.

Some of the sexual innuendo had me a little thoughtful, at first, about showing this to my godchildren -- but it's nothing as bad as they see on TV every day, and certainly not enough to make me decide not to show it to them.

Great staging, good choreography, good wardrobe (that had me taking notes, in places, for tribal belly dance costumes). The cast obviously enjoyed themselves tremendously which made the show that much better. This one's a keeper!
