Summary: Excellent production!
Review:
This is a show that I was waiting to see for a *long* time, and it has far surpassed my highest expectations. Having seen the production on stage many times, I thought that nothing could come close to the excellence and professionalism that was epitomized on the stage, but I was wrong. The chemistry that is so evident on stage is evident here too, and the performances shine. Donny is at his all-time best as Joseph - the role he was born to play - and Joan Collins and the rest of the cast are superb in their respective roles. The only change I would have made was the Elvis/Pharoah part, but it's not that big a deal. He's not on stage long enough to bother you, and if you don't like this particular actor, just keep your eyes on Donny during that scene. :-)

I **highly** recommend this tape to anyone - child or adult - who likes "Joseph" or any Andrew Lloyd Webber show in general. You will NOT be disappointed!

Summary: Outstanding, a total delight!
Review: Donny Osmond once again proves he is the best at entertaining an audience. You will tap your foot through the whole production. The music is outstanding, the cast is perfect and costumes are fabulous. If you didn't get to see the show live you don't want to miss it this time. Gather the family together, and get your popcorn ready, this is a real treat for all to enjoy!

Summary: Joseph is Awesome
Review: This video is spectacular. It is as if you were at the theatre, but watching it from your comfortable couch. Unlike other "made for tv" theatrical productions, there are no real special effects, rather the theatrical props.

My twin 3 year old boys saw the play in the theatre and were just as amazed by the video.

A Must rental!

Summary: First-class entertainment
Review: JOSEPH is as every bit as entertaining as CATS, already filmed for video. All the more so when Donny Osmond's Joseph and Marie Friedman's Narrator make this video so compelling. Not to mention Robert Torti's funny Elvisesque Pharaoh. When Osmond sings, one can notice the amount of feeling he gives to ANY DREAM WILL DO and CLOSE EVERY DOOR. There are even outstanding performances from Richard Attenborough, Joan Collins and Ian McNeice. The sets and costumes are very sumptuous and believable. My advice? Buy this video and be entertained well.

Summary: Fantastic film/video of a musical classic
Review: This is rarity in the world of stage musicals; a show that actually survives the transition to the medium of film. The directors decision to use a school assembly as a "bookending" device, works very well, and the staging is very close to what you would have seen in a live setting. Osmond is perfect in the title role, especially during his big "dramatic moment", the song "Close Every Door", and although I'm a little partial to Kelli Rabke, (the Narrator on the U.S. Cast recording), Maria Friedman is excellent in the role. What a voice! My only reason for withholding one star from my rating is for what I consider to be poor judgment in one particular scene. The segment involving "Mrs. Potiphar" is a little too over-the-top (sexually suggestive) for something being promoted as a family show. This would most certainly earn the film either a PG or PG-13 rating if it was a theatrical release. The packaging is somewhat misleading also. The photo of Joan Collins (Mrs. Potiphar) on the back of the box, pictures her in full costume, but with part of the outfit apparently computer-enhanced so that it is not as risque as it really appears in the show. In a word, tacky. Parents may want to view the tape alone first in order to avoid some embarrasing moments trying to explain to their kids why Joan Collins is groping Donny Osmond. If you have no qualms about this singular mis-step in a otherwise great video, by all means treat yourself to it.

Summary: Eye-opening version... Re-orchestrated?
Review: This is a superb visualisation of the show based on the early 90's London Revival with Jason Donovan and (subsequently) Philip Schofield. The production was then moved to the US where Donny Osmond took the title role for 6 or 7 years. This version owes a lot to the original London Revival production. The Canaan sets and the Pharoah sets are practically identical to those of the stage version, just fleshed out a bit. The jail and Potiphar's offices are a new departure, with a triangular theme in black, white and silver. What impressed me the most, though, was the huge involvement of the chorus in this production. The chorus work also seems to have been augmented, with additional harmony lines and dances. All in all, a reaffirmation of the stage as a medium, even in video form! Enjoy!

Summary: Absolutely AMAZING!
Review: This is THE best DVD I own! Donny Osmond is great, but Maria Friedman is SENSATIONAL! I prefered this movie version to Cats because this is a real movie, where as Cats was just a film of the stage show. Do yourself a favour and buy this DVD. You'll love it!

Summary: An Andrew L. Webber's fan
Review: I have to say I'm an Andrew Lloyd Webber's fan. I saw Joseph for the very first time in London five years ago. I think the show is superb; and this video, too. Donny Osmond fits the carachter; but Mary Friedman , as the Narrator, plays her role in an absolutely remarkable way. Excellent the rest of the supporting cast, including Richard Attemborough and Joan Collins as Mrs Potiphar. Without any doubt, the best musical video I ever saw since "Cats"

Summary: The whole family enjoys it!
Review: I saw Joseph for the first time about 4 years ago, and wondered why I waited so long to see it. I took my older children (then aged 8 & 9) to see it two years later--they loved it, too! They insisted I buy the soundtrack CD (also an awesome thing to have), and now my three year old bops around the house singing, "Go, go, go Joseph!" Good music, great lyrics, a great evening for the entire family! A must for Andrew Lloyd Weber fans of all ages.
