Summary: "A Contemporary Masterwork."
Review: A film for the ages, this is a deeply moving and mezmerizing exploration of modern suburbia. Told from beyond the grave by Kevin Spacey's Lester Burnham, the film entrances and captivates you, while the performers take an almost "self-parody" approach to their roles. Darkly humorous and beautiful, Sam Mendes truly constructs a contemporary masterwork, deservadly winning the "Best Picture" award at the Oscars. The subject matter has certainly been explored before, but never in this manner. Not as twisted as "Happiness" or as wrenching as "The Ice Storm", but a film we can identify with just the same. Suburbia is a very broad subject, one that can be looked at from many points of view, but this may be the best.

Summary: Charismatic!
Review: There's so much to say about this movie. This movie will leave you looking in total amazement at it and make you wonder how true and beautiful the stuff in it actually is.

It describes our lives, our day-to-day lives and the complexities attached to them. There's so much confusion, misconception, deception, affection, involved in our lives that its hard to believe.

The movie's about a family which is totally unsatisfied with each other. The father is going through a mid-life crisis and quits his job to work at a fast food joint and also falls for his daughter's best-friend, the mother starts having an affair with her business rival and the daughter hates them both going through tough times as well. In spite of all these complicated things the movie is produced in such a beautiful and charismatic way that you are absolutely shaken by it. The lives of many people are depicted in this movie and makes you wanna go and join them.

The movie's SCORE is the best I have ever heard yet. Thomas Newman has done a wonderful job, goes perfectly with the movie's scenes and plots.

Overall, I would give it 10 stars.

Summary: Well made, HIGHLY OVERRATED
Review: It's a shame to see so much skill go into making such shallow material. The story of a man who chucks his job because he's sick of being a "whore for the advertising industry," but suffers absolutely no ill economic effects. He gets to keep his job and buy a bunch of expensive toys, plus pursue the affections of an underage girl. Then it's supposed to be "deep" when he passes on having sex with the girl because she's a virgin -- not because it's morally wrong or anything like that. My big question at the end of this movie was, where would this guy have been in a year when the money ran out and his wife was gone if his stereotypically, repressively gay neighbor hadn't killed him?

Summary: Wow Cool! Moive so Smarty and Cool and Sex
Review: This moive is so funny especially when Kevin Spacy is plesuring his self--that is so funny!!!! I like when the kids talk dirty. That one girl is so HOT! I think Kevin Sacy should of had sex with her though. That would of been better. Also I liked the older lady getting sex in the motel!!!! That was so funny! And the part when it looks like the two males are doing something dirty threw the window! There is lots of funny sexy stuff in this moive that I love it amost as much as American Pie, my other favorite moives. SEE THIS MOIVE!!!

Summary: PERFECTION
Review: To be honest, this film looked boring when I saw the previews - another story about bored people in Middle class suburbia. Thankfully my boss talked me into renting it and boy am I ever glad he did. From the very first moment until the last I was glued to the screen.
The performances are brilliant, every time you think you know a character they progress to another level, none of them realizing that their pathos and dreams and nightmares and joy and sorrow will all collide in the final few moments of the film, altering their course forever. What is amazing is the trip that you are given in route to those final moments - the subtle combination of every human emotion is explored in ways which will make you smile one minute, and wince the next.
The scene where the next door neighbor shows his video of a paper bag "dancing" in the wind is one of the single best moments I have ever encountered in cinema.
I honestly don't know how to describe this film in words except to say that it is perhaps the closest I've ever seen to perfection in film !!
BUY IT, BUY IT, BUY IT !!

Summary: Faultless
Review: This is one of the best movies ever made, and the characterisations and pace are near perfect. Everyone should see it!

Summary: IS IT SURREALISM OR AN EXISTENCIALISTIC STATEMENT?
Review: A portrait of a suburban, disfunctional, family in America. The plot, with dramatic and comic touches, evokes the ghosts of middle life crisis, and constitutes a fine but traumatic exploration into nothingness and what ensues when you believe that you have all programmed and covered, until real life pierces through the veil of stereotype and devoids what you took for granted of any meaningful purpose. Many self-destructive behavioural traits of modern suburban families are explored and exposed.

I can think of no visual (and musical) experience as similar, in many senses, to Mike Nichol's fundamental picture The Graduate. So if you can appreciate a funny tale, told with dark touches, about consumistic materialism, modernistically troubled kids with absentminded parents, that in a way reflects your neighbour's troubles (or perhaps your domestic menage)YOU SHOULD SEE THIS PICTURE........

Summary: Stunning Beauty
Review: There are so many ways why I can say American Beauty was my favorite movie (next to Moulin Rouge) but I can say that this was my first 'love' my first favorite movie. I was the unfortunate one to not see it in theatres, when everyone did. But, the Trailer for American Beauty got me thinking a lot about how they put these strange scenes together. After watching it on video I was in Awe! (I wanted to see it on DVD first but I couldn't wait) All of the visually stunning scenes, cinematography and dialogue made me love this film. There is something very Beautiful about the way this movie flew from one scene to the next. The fantacies of Lester towards Angela was incredible and rather funny (especially the gym scene). And the final scene in the end made me see why this was the winner for Best Picture. This is truly one of the great films that people should see to get the real raw emotions that the actors/actresses portrayed in American Beauty.

Summary: This Movie Makes You Think
Review: I wanted to see American Beauty a long time ago, but a friend commented on how this movie was "only about sex." No doubt she was completely wrong and if some of you gave it a few stars, you must've merely glanced at its surface. American Beauty the dysfunctional emotions that occur within a seemingly "normal" family. It makes you think of life itself. The acting was really, really good. I'm not going to repeat the plotline, but everyone with a mature mind must see this movie. It is, indeed, a level higher than the typical movies out now that offer only surface-entertainment value.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Mediocre
Review: Interesting film that is probably more worth renting than buying.
If you are into relationship movies this is a video you will enjoy. The acting is pretty good, but the story isn't really compelling or for that matter believable. A definite 3 star film.
