Summary: A masterpiece of wit and interpretation of the bard's work.
Review: This is a film that can be watched again and again. The art of wit aproaches its highest form in this adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing. It surpasses the film "Ridicule" in its capturing of historic humor. When I viewed Much Ado About Nothing in a theater for the first time I was spellbound and it sparked an interest in Shakespear that has lasted for the past five years. I am delighted to own this video so that I can introduce my friends to Shakespear in one of the most enjoyable fashions.

Summary: Branagh did a great job in "Shakespeare's " Much Ado..
Review: I loved this movie or play however you wanna say it but I was a little disapointed with the comedy aspect of this play. What comedy? Besides the subtle one liners each character had, and Micheal Keaton's randomness to the movie it was more like a drama. What was Keaton's part in this movie besides to look really strange and do very werid things, the whole imaginary horse thing had me and my friend cracking up the whole night. As you can see I liked it! And yes I think if Keanu Reeves were to move his head any faster and jerkier than his head would have popped off. But that's just my opinion.

Summary: It was wonderful
Review: The first time I saw Kenneth Branagh in anything was when I saw Henry V. I thought he was magnificent and couldn't wait to see more of him. I saw MAAN (abbreviated) on the big screen, and thought that it was the most delightful, witty and well acted movie I had ever seen. As soon as it came out on video, I bought it.

Summary: Laugh at Shakspeare? Yeah right!
Review: If you've always thought that Shakspeare was boring or uncomprehandable, you need to see this moving. You will find your self laughing most of the time. Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh are perfect together and Micheal Keaton is a scream as the sheriff. By the end of the movie you will be understanding the language without a problem.

Summary: Beautiful and charming!
Review: I first saw this movie in the 8th grade and I remember thinking that I wouldn't like it because its SHAKESPEARE. We saw it and I'd been in love with it since. I finally bought my own copy this year and it is one of my most prized possessions. Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh have this wonderful chemestry that make me smile everytime I see it. Denzel is Denzel (what more can be said?), as perfect as ever. My only complaint would be the casting of Keanu Reeves. He is obviously not a true actor though I hear he likes to recite Shakespeare in his free time. I guess Branagh was desperate. He obviously had not seen Speed. But other than that, the movie will leave you breathless.

Summary: Branagh & Thompson Are Electric
Review: If you like Shakespeare's light hearted and fun works, then you will certainly be delighted with this rendition of Much Ado. Branagh and Thompson give a grand performance. They have a captivating screen presence and chemistry that is rarely seen. It is worth watching the movie just to see them in action. Denzel Washington as the Prince and Michael Keaton, hilarious in the role of the Sheriff (I am an ass!) also give A+ performances. However, there is one dreadful casting error when "Bill and Ted meet Hamlet". Keanu Reeves gives a poor performance, playing the part of the villian. He simply looks uncomfortable with the Shakespearian Dialogue. He is mechanical and far from menacing in the important bad guy role. This error aside, Much Ado about Nothing is really something special indeed!

Summary: Branagh makes strong, but incosistent choices
Review: After being dogged for months by Keyanu Reeves (one of the worst actors of all time), Branagh finally decided to allow him into the film, in the perfect role - Don Jon ie "I am not of many words." If you did not laugh at that line, then God help you.

In any case, the principals (minus Keyanu) did an excellent job - there was real tension between Branagh and Emma Tompson, and Robert Sean Leonard's Claudio was the epitome of naieve doting. I especially loved Denzel Washington's immaculately white teeth (did he use Rembrandt?) and the hilarty of having Reeves as his brother.

The image, 16x9 enhanced, is flawless with very little artifacting, and the sound mix, although Pro-Logic, works quite well in the movie.

The only thing I take issue with is Branagh's choice to protray Dogberry (Michael Keaton) as physical, rather than intellectual comedy. I mean sure he is a commoner, but did he have to bash us over the head with it? There are much funnier subtleties in word play which he could have chosen to flesh out the Dogberry character.

But alak. I am only an armchair reviewer. Therefore 4 stars.

Summary: This is the ultimate, must-read shakespeare play!!!!!!!
Review: This was the best play I have ever read. Beatice and Benedick totally steal the spotlight from the supposed main plot between Don John and his henchmen. If you must read a shakespearian play, choose this one for it is most enjoyable.

Summary: YOU AMAZE ME!!
Review: Kenneth Branagh does a beatiful interpretation of this wonderful Shakespeare play. Great actors and sets. The best thing about it is you can understand no matter what...even if you don't 'get' Shakespeare. END

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: enthusiastically pleased
Review: This play is performed so cleverly, as only the intelligent and witty actors, Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson, can do. Even if you hate Shakespeare, I think you'll like this one. END
