Summary: There's Nothing for It But a Life of Celibacy
Review: I picked this video up because I was in a rush. I had no idea what it was about, except that Reese Witherspoon was in it. Dreading a fearful mistake, I started the video, and was soon having the best laugh I have had for some time. This is simply the funniest, wittiest movie. It deserves more than five stars. It has a light-hearted and entertaining plot that features the wonderful talents of the cast. If you liked Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice, you have to own this video. This movie will please anyone who has a good sense of humor.

Summary: And Devoured Every Single Muffin...
Review: This film is one of my absolute favorites. The casting is superb, the scenery beautiful, and the soundtrack very clever. Many people seem to think that there is one and only one interpretation of a great piece of literature. That "Oh No" the author would somehow be turning over in his grave if he found out that someone had a little different spin on his story. I find this attitude appalling. Literature is written to promote ideas, ideas which can be viewed from many different angles. I'm convinced that many avid readers think that stodgy ill humor passes for a critical and serious eye. What a crime to box a great work of literature like this play into a corner. I for one love this interpretation. It's smart and funny with a distinct feel all it's own that I think Oscar Wilde would probably find interesting. The DVD itself is excellent. Clean crisp picture and sound.

Summary: "I've always dreamed of loving a man named Earnest."
Review: A very cute and funny little film based on the classic Oscar Wilde play, unites many of the charming features of british films. Beautiful scenery of the English countyside, Good characters, good acting from all parties; particularly Judi Dench, and Reese Witherspoon. And hilarious diolouge and plot twists uniquely Oscar Wilde. It is also no pain to watch Colin Firth. I recommend for any Wilde fan or someone who just simply likes witty British romantic comedies.

Summary: Hack job tarnishes this great play
Review: "The Importance of Being Earnest" is, arguably, the most famous work Oscar Wilde ever wrote. In addition, he is considered one of the prominent writers of the late Victorian age. It's too bad that filmmakers don't have the same kind of reverence for at least this play that they often have for, say, "Hamlet". This film takes the play's storyline and dialog and hacks it up into little bits. Much of the witty humor that makes the play so funny is gone. The characters retain only a little of the sparkle they have in the stage version (my prime example is the treatment of Algy, who is in my opinion the funniest character in the play). The screenwriters instead choose to try and "update" it for an audience with limited attention spans. It's a shame that they didn't do a better job with this one.

Summary: Bunburyists
Review: I enjoyed this film ALOT,Its very witty and funny, the casting for this film was spot on,rupert everett and colin firth have firecracker type chemistry together, the two of them fit perfectly with wildes work and wit and give it proper energy and life.I never would have thought that they would cast an american to play cecily, but Reese Witherspoon does an excellent job.My favourite character however was Gwendolyn, played by top australian actress Francis O'conner.Dame judi dench does her usual difficult angry lady routine but does it well. The only bad note to the film were the costumes ,which were really horrid.

Summary: Lots of fun
Review: Well, it's Oscar Wilde, so of course it's fun. But the best part is the duet sung between Rupert and Firth. They do it a little bit in the film, but there's an extended version during the credits. Great interplay between the actors and fun to watch.

Summary: An incredibly clever masterpiece of wordplay
Review: It took us a little while to get into this one. The first 20 minutes or so seemed a little slow and even boring. By the end of the movie however, we were rolling in our seats with laughter. This movie is all about the dialog. It's witty and clever and you really have to pay attention to catch everything. With all the witty dialog, plot twists, and romantic banter, this movie is remniscent of a Shakespearean comedy. If you liked "Much Ado About Nothing", or "Midsummer Night's Dream", you'll like this one as well.

Summary: Witty and Enjoyable!
Review: This movie is hilarious. The dialogue is very witty. The acting is fantastic especially by Colin Firth and Judi Dench. Colin Firth and Rupert Everett play off each other very well and their scenes together ("the muffin scene") are hysterical! I would reccomend this movie to anyone who enjoys witty dialogue and is ready for some fun!
