Summary: Waiting for a Sequel
Review: Waiting for Guffman is Christopher Guests' and Eugene Levy's best work ever. I absolutely loved this movie. If you liked "Best in Show" and "Here's Spinal Tap," then this movie will certainly WOW you! My only complaint is that the movie is only 84 minutes long. If you can, buy/rent the edition with the extra footage - it's even better than the movie. The additional footage contains vintage Catherine O'Hara in two musical numbers that were cut from the original movie. The story is about "wanna be" Broadway producer, Corky St. Clair (Guest), who directs the town's play in a show he hopes will land him (and them) in Broadway. The town's reaction to the play is even funnier. Great movie - I watch it over and over. "I give this movie two enthusiastic thumbs up!"

Review: This is one of the funniest movies I ever have seen. I have worked in local theatre productions, and this movie totally hits the spot and tells the truth on how people think! You'll get it if you have worked in local theatre for sure!!! A wonderful and funny movie.

Summary: One Of The Best Movie Comedy Lines Ever
Review: This is a hilarious movie, and it contains one of the best movie comedy lines ever presented (though in an extremely low-key fashion).You'll recognize it when you hear the terms Navy destroyer, dance belt and tube of chapstick, all in the same sentence. Enjoy.

Review: Might be ok for a rental, but all these great reviews are misleading. It's a long string of understatement and purposely anticlimactic punch lines. It's an interesting exercise, but the joke's on the viewer. There's a reason you haven't heard of this movie before.

This unblinking documentary about a small town's theatrical troubles will give you a great deal to identifyand laugh with . All of us know someone in this movie. All of us are someone in this movie. Stop thinking about it and hit "add to my shopping cart". This is a fun movie If you don't laugh, get your head checked. This is good fun in the heart of America.

Review: This is quite possibly the funniest movie ever made. Extremely smart, amazing performances and writing (especially considering it is almost entirely improvised). I was blown away by it's genius.

Summary: my favorite mockumentary
Review: I think that this is Guest's best work so far (including "This is Spinal Tap"), and the DVD is good looking and the commentary track very interesting. I enjoyed the deleted scenes, especially the "beachball cabin"... The movie is a fake documentary about a dog show, and follows the fortunes of the owners and trainers of 4 dogs up to the show and beyond. The performances are largely improvised, and hilarious (especially that of Fred Willard). One thing that I especially liked about this movie is that while it has a lot of fun with the characters, they are treated with affection (even when they get no respect). Many of these fake documentaries are uniformly hard on their "subjects", and this generally leads to at best two-dimensional characters (and less interesting movies).

Summary: OVER THE TOP
Review: A small town wants to celebrate its history with a small play. The town enlists the local dramatist (a very gay-acting but in the closet Christopher Guest). He orchestrates a grand production using a cast of misguided and none too talented locals (comprised of Guests's usual suspects'Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Parker Posey, among others). When the production starts to come together they invite a New York theatre critic to the production (he would be Guffmann of course). Of course Guffman never shows up, and the cast's lives go back to normal. The special thing about the movie of course is the journey of how they put the production together and the quirky characters that it took to get to that point. The directionless Posey as a DQ employee, Catherine O'Hara as the long suffering wife of a domineering man (forget the actor's name but he is hilarious) with whom she runs a travel agency. Fabulous film, once more very character driven.

Summary: Get a Clue
Review: For those that "don't get" the humor in this movie, I have one word for you: SATIRE. Look it up in the dictionary, figure out what it means, if you can, then take another look at this movie. Chances are, the characters in this movie are frighteningly similar to yourselves. Both they, and you, "don't get it". If you find it boring because there is no "outright humor", or "comic situations", and if you feel that you were cheated when you showed it on your "big front projection theater" to a "diverse crowd", and they hated it, I'd be very willing to wager that the the person Mr. Guest is poking fun at here, is you and your "diverse crowd". And if you don't understand what I'm talking about, then just turn off your brain for good and go watch "American Pie" for the 151st time.
