Summary: TINKLE TINKLE LITTLE STARS!!!!
Review: UTTERLY CHARMONT - with a slightly dark side .... but what a treat?

Favorites? The Dog? Grandmere? The eldest Triplet? The Armani drawn [apology!] gangstars? And 'le beret'?? ALL OF THEM and - including the soundtrack.

JUST SIT BACK, POP THIS ONE IN AND ENJOY UTTER FANTASY ..... what a Gem - and snubbed by the Academy? SHAME ON YOU ALL!

However, maybe some bright spaek would create a sequel - mixing animation and live action with Jeanne Moreau as one of the Triplets - Catherine Deneuve, Charlotte Rampling? THEN of course we could have their Anglo Cousins - Angela Lansbury, Maggie Smith and ELAINE STRITCH!

Just a thought ...... would be quite super-spectacular, not so?

Only gripe is - cover states WIDESCREEN .... pre-credits states "modified?"

Odd........

Summary: Amazing art and animation
Review: I loved this movie, not for its storyline but for its breathtaking art and incredible sound. If you're someone who can't appreciate the art and sound of a movie and only appreciate the storyline then this movie is not for you. In fact, I thought the storyline in this film was quite blase. However, the sound, musical score, art and animation were stunning and I reccomend this movie to anyone who can apprecita that. Enjoy!

Summary: I'd give it 10 stars if I could!
Review: This wonderful, whimsical, bizarre, surreal, and touching movie is not to be missed. The animation is fantastic, and some scenes are downright unreal!! But the Gramma and the Dog are a wonderful, brave pair, and if you love Grammas and dogs, and bravery ..then this movie was made for you.And the Triplets are dotty and brave and kind.
It is almost indescribable, actually. You have to see it to understand.Check disbelief at the door, and get ready for a sweet and lovingly made animated film.

Summary: SPECTACULAR........
Review: From the moment Josephine Baker plus bananas flashes onto the screen sharing the stage with the fabulous triplets - performing to an audience of supersized ladies and their miniscule males ... you know that you're in for something special!

NEVER BEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE ... and let's hope that there's more to follow .... this is a phantasmagorical [weird] tale of a Grandmama's search for her Grandson - a kidnapped cyclist ... joining her is his pet dog [brilliant!] ... and along the way they have quite a few adventures ... especially when they meet the 3 girls who seem to delight in reptilian gastronomical cordon bleu dishes........ [frogs ala everything!]

The Gangsters are suitable creepy, etc etc ... so's Belleville ........

One has to visit this experience over and over again ..... let's hope for more!

DYNAMITE SOUNDTRACK TOO!

[This is more or less what movies are all about - visual communication - limited if any dialogue ....]

Odd glitch on the DVD though - if you play "play" you're alterted to the "This Movie has been Modified...", but if you access "play" through Special features ... no message... a glitch?

Cover states - widescreen ... and it is ... odd .... but then that's Belleville!

Summary: weird and odd but still a must see
Review: The triplets of belleville is no doubt the weirdest movie i have ever seen. the characters look like nothing you have ever seen before. In the begginning of the movie there were a couple of laughs but then it kind of goes slow when she meets the triplets. This movie isn' the best for kids. There are some nudity, lanuguage, and a touch of violence. i dont like how no one says anything, it gets annoying. But all and all it wasn't bad. IT's VERY DIFFRENT. the little boy is very scary looking and found myself fast forwarding it because it was so ugly. The grandmother is awesome in the movie. Go see it, if you dont like it I can see why, and if u do I can see why.

Summary: Next Big Thing: French Animation?
Review: I didn't really know what to expect with this one, being the first "French Animation" film I've ever seen. Well, let me say that I was impressed. France's current obsession with 20'2 to 50's American culture shines in this gem, as parts of this film will remind you of Betty Bop, Buster Keaton, Chaplin cinema, etc. The story line, characters, humor, and even the animation itself is very French. This is an odd piece, but will keep you glued to the set, because of its ambience and creativity.

This is about a bicyclist who competes in the Tour de France, and is kidnapped. His grandmother, along with his dog, Bruno try to solve the mystery, along with the enigmatic "Triplets of Belleville." Most of the film is void of dialouge, rather the characters tend to speak through their facial expressions, making this almost qualify as a silent film. There is plenty of cool, jazzy swing-ish music, however.
THIS IS NOT A CHILDREN'S FILM. I would not reccomend this for children under 11, not that it is obscene, but it is geared more towards adults (a bit of nudity, a man flicks off an old-lady, etc)
Great, original film! Highly reccomended!

Summary: Deserved the oscars for which it was nominated
Review: This film was absolutely amazing! Such a refreshing change from all the Disney crap being pumped out. In reference to another review, yes, this film is bizarre and the some of the animation is oddly grotesque. I guess I missed the rules that said that all animated features must be made for children and must be pretty and shiny and wrapped up nice and neat, and be in English so that monolingual folks can understand it. The animation speaks for itself and carries the story very nicely, so that even if you don't speak French, it's very easy to follow. Ha, and I loved the fat Statue of Liberty! Also, the music throughout the film is tremendously fun! Please take the time to watch the commentary by the director, it's so interesting and gives so much insight into the film. I certainly hope there are more animated films to come from him!

Summary: Quite a Mix
Review: This is good stuff. The whole "world" of the movie is very impressive, a combination of Charles Bragg characters, "Stomp" music, Magritte visions and "Sim City" on steroids laced with Wild Turkey.

Or something.

Review: Amazing, delightful art, artistic conception, music, imagination! Original and marvelous.

Summary: Champion
Review: The Triplets of Belleville is probably one of the most important animations I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. Without dialogue, the viewer is taken along on a adventure. You'll find music in everything... as do the Triplets. My husband and I watched it over and over simply for the opening song. An animation for adults, that allows you to digress.
