Summary: The best video I have ever seen!
Review: This is one of the best of the series that PBS has shown on TV. That was how I was introduced to Anne(Megan). Megan Is a terrific actress. The story is great and the 1934 version is terrific too. You will be surprised how the names have changed from one version of the video to the next. There are actually 4 tapes I think this is the first one, however, I encourage you to get all 4 if you can. I had to order mine from Canada because they were hard to get in the US. It took several months for me to get them. I treasure them, and have passed them on to friends who might have thought they had it bad. Get the tape! You will truly love Anne and the rest of the cast. It makes a lovely gift! Maybe Amazon provide the complete set. That would be a wonderful gift too!

Summary: What a wonderful story of loyality and courage!
Review: My husband and I are very careful of what our 9 & 11 year old daughters watch. Not only do we approve of this video, we also encourage them to watch this video. Our girls enjoy acting out the story with their friends. They have learned a great many things about love, loyality and courage through this film. Buy it and enjoy it with your family!

Summary: The Wonderful Scope of the Imagination!
Review: When I first saw the collection of AOGG, I almost thought that I was in the movie myself. This movie has a wonderful look at the old times in PEI. The imagination of the characters come alive with the sinsation of Anne. It captures the scenes of remarkable talents of Kevin Sullivin. I will now leave you to experiment it yourself! Singed your "kindered spirit"

Summary: A gorgeous video to be treasured
Review: What a pleasure to be reviewing my all-time absolute favourite movie! AOGG has lived in my heart since I first read the book when I was 6 years old. Since then I have watched this movie countless times and enjoyed every minute of it! First of all, the setting in PEI is beautiful. Secondly, Sullivan beautifully captures the spirit of the small town of Avonlea with its many colourful characters. Thirdly, even though it's set in a much different era than today, everyone can relate to AOGG. Who doesn't have a "kindred spirit"? Who doesn't know a "Mrs. Rachel Lynde"? Who wishes they knew a man like Matthew or Gilbert? I could go on and on, but I'll leave you to watch the video for yourself. Better yet, give this video a young girl with romantic notions and watch her delight in the world of Anne...with an "e"!

Summary: An Absolute must for everyones collection?
Review: I bought this for my twin girls and they watch it over and over again. I must admit, I really have enjoyed it myself and found it to be one of the most entertaining movies in our collection, I have bought both sets and wish there was a third! The cast is wonderful, the setting delightful and the story is humorous and engaging.

Summary: This series is true to the books - beautifully adapted.
Review: You will pack your bags and head to Prince Edward Island after seeing this series. It is beautifully filmed and the performances are excellent throughout the entire cast. I wasn't sure how they could be really true to the Anne-Girl in film - her appeal is in her extensive dialogues - but they managed to do it. Anne is such a worthy heroine for young girls - she is intelligent, independent, curious, resourceful, creative, and very strong in her beliefs and the goals she sets for herself. You will both laugh and cry - I highly, highly recommend these videos. Signed...a "kindred spirit".

Summary: one of the best children's literature pieces you can find!
Review: Most people have read this book when they were children, but I read it when I was already 17 years old. Still, it wasn't hard to get inspired by such a character-- I have never encountered one that was as real and as alive as Anne. You get transported to that wonderful world and in the romance of it all, you are given this renewal in your sense of childlike wonder and awe at little things. Anne and her world becomes real for you, and in the process, you are able to view your own reality with much more "scope for the imagination" and see it for the beauty and wonder that it holds. END

Summary: Ideal for the entire family
Review: This movie is beautiful--just beautiful. It's my favorite one of the three "Anne" films that have been released. It's the kind of movie that you can watch with your whole family and everyone can enjoy it for some reason or another. Avonlea is displayed BEAUTIFULLY, and little Anne's spirit lightens up the whole movie. Megan Follows is a truly wonderful actress, and her luminous talent produces Anne Shirley, a memorable character that you will never forget. At the beginning of the movie, she is a talkative and heartening little orphan who comes to live with Marilla Cuthbert and her brother Matthew in Green Gables on Prince Edward Island. By the time the film reaches its conclusion, she has blossomed into an intelligent, mature, and levelheaded young adult. But watching her gradually make the transformation throughout the movie is a pure joy. What can I say? This is Anne Shirley--a hilariously funny, sweet, lovable, smart, and feisty girl who is always getting into trouble, but worms her way into everyone's heart. This movie is a winner, a classic. There's a little bit of humor, a little bit of sadness, and a whole lot of entertainment packed into this one film. Megan Follows, Colleen Dewhurst, Jonathan Crombie, and Richard Farnsworth round up the main cast, and their acting is superb. You will enjoy every single bit of this movie, and you'll wonder why you waited so long to experience the magic of it. Don't wait any longer--buy it now, it'll be worth every piece of money that you spend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: DVD QUALITY GREAT ! I can see the print of the wallpaper
Review: After watching this often on vhs I bought a DVD and I noticed the difference right away! You can see the print of fabrics, wallpaper, and details of everything much better. This is a wonderful story and the music is beautiful. All the actors are excellent. Great movie for little girls with red hair! Its not easy growing up with red hair. I love the way Anne is portrayed in this movie. There is a black and white version made in the 1930's and its okay. This movie also shows a girl taking her education seriously. The only thing I didn't like was that Gilbert is a little too much the lovesick fool. I think most guys would have given up on her, she was very mean to him.

Summary: Imagination, romance, bosom friends and that Anne girl...
Review: "Anne of Green Gables" is a remarkable series. I have never read the L.M. Montgomery books, but someday I feel I must. Everything about this production is perfect, and I feel as Anne does when she first glimpses the "White Way of Delight." Magical.

The cast of this production is noteworthy. Megan Follows is an enduring character, sinking into Anne with ease. She is at time frustratingly stubborn and at other times completely charming. Sassy and full of life and spirit, you cannot help but love Anne Colleen Dewhurst and Richard Farnsworth are equally good as Marilla and Mathew Cuthbert. It is hard to believe that such a tender player as Richard Farnsworth spent over 30 years as a stuntman.

The DVD is great, and I have had no complaints. The quality of picture and sound are as good as any of my DVDs. The production is not widescreen, of course, because it is a television series filmed in the television aspect ratio.

The extras are all valuable. The extra scenes, and the story behind them, add a new dimension to the story. Megan's audition reel is included, as is feature commentary.

I'm glad I grew up watching this series, and I am glad that I own it on DVD, to watch and share anew.
