Summary: A gory, but definitive classic!
Review: Like the similar 'Last House on the Left', you're either going to love this film, or hate it with a passion - there's no down the middle. Director Ruggero Deodato takes rape, suffering and violence to near-unbearable extremes, almost trying to out-do the terrors we witnessed in 'Cannibal Holocaust'.

This is only going to appeal to a certain crowd, and that crowd involves any serious horror fans, as well as fans of cult exploitation. Often, 'House on the Edge of the Park' is grim, unsettling and horridly disturbing. All in all, it actually does it's job as a horror film - it shocks, chills and disturbs in equal measure, with enough blood-letting to keep many gore fans happy.

The story follows the psychotic rapist Alex (an outstanding performance by David Hess, no matter how the film pans out), who takes his mentally-challenged friend Ricky (John Morghen) to a posh party. After being mistreated by the upper-class yuppies, Alex eventually reaches boiling point, and the party results in a tense and terrifying hostage situation, in which anyone can drop.

'House on the Edge of the Park' is an interesting and sometimes brilliant work, which has the disadvantage of not being everyones cup of tea. The violence is extreme, and uncomfortable to watch. In most respects, this isn't a mainstream film, since it's sleazy feel often makes it hard to sit through.

At the end of the day, this film does have it's flaws, but it doesn't stop it from being a classic of the genre. It's essentially a rip-off of 'Last House on the Left', but if you liked Craven's film, you'll know doubt like this too.

At least give it a try, since there are worse films out there...

Regards,
D.J. Nock

Summary: david hess is ugly
Review: maybe thats why he keeps doing horror movies. because his face could scare anyone. his fine acting talents should not be limited to horror though. just lookk at the way he delivers the profound lines in this fine film. "Now we're gonna have some fun with these (ladies)." GENIUS. this character is a far cry from anything he's ever played before...this time Hess is a psychopath. unlike any of his other characters. and the fashion sense he has...strutting around in that suave gold jacket..WOW, i had to go and buy one exactly like it. then we move on to his action scenes. such as taking a pee in the pool..FROM THE OUTSIDE....ON ONE OF HIS VICTIMS HEAD AND FACE. with SLOB acting like that, how did this movie not win an acadamy award?? Im willing to cast my vote for Hess for President...even if his face looks like a hemmeroid with 'fro-puff curls.

Summary: The House on the Edge of the Park stars David Hess
Review: Ruggero 'Cannibal Holocaust' Deodato directed this film under a psyudom. The film is about a couple of criminal rapist thugs that invade a party run by rich yuppie types and casual cocain users and teach them a lesson in brutality and sleaze they won't soon forget. The film has a few shocking scenes that you would have come to expect from the Reggro Deodato. David Hess plays a very vicious role, carrrying on and exceeding his role in Wes Cravins, Last House on the Left.

Summary: cult stuff
Review: Savage and brutal thriller from Ruggero Deodato. This has to be one of the most mean spirited movies from the 80's exploitation boom. But, it does have a raw power that keeps you hooked to the end.
David hess is cast against type (tee hee) as a psychotic villain who infiltrates a trendy party and of course, immediately causes all kinds of mayhem.
The transfer here is quite exceptional with bold, strong colours.

Summary: Top of the 70's exploitation flicks
Review: Sex, utterly horrifying violence, copious amounts of nudity, stunningly beautiful actresses, poor dubbing after filming (it was shot in English dialogue, and dubbed afterward in English, meaning they didn't appear to have a budget), minimalistic sets and scenes, some surprisingly good acting, a great looking DVD transfer (very sharp and clear), some catchy Italian disco songs, and the legendary David Hess as the villain. 70's horror exploitation just doesn't get much better than this. A lot better than Last House on the Left, too.

Summary: A Big Zero
Review: The real mystery about this film is how it got made. Who would bother? The film doesn't seem to have a script- it barely has a plot. One has to wonder if there was any planned dialogue. Even more bizarre is how it found its way to DVD. In the 80s when the film was first released and video tape was a new medium, throw away flicks like this were popping up everywhere. But how did it survive?

I like exploitation films, but this isn't exactly exploitation. It sort of resembles a soft-core S and M film, but it isn't. It's like a porno movie, but it isn't. It's kind of a horror movie, but it isn't that either. It's one of those films that doesn't add up to much of anything- a big zero. If you like masochism, horror, and sex, then there are plenty of other flicks to choose from.

Summary: ALL DEODATO FANS! HEADS UP!
Review: This is unrelated to this film, but oh well. Any Deodato fans out there looking for his "lost" classic CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, you can find it at www.revok.com. It's a bare bones version, but it's widescreen and it looks pretty good. Check out there site, you won't regret it!
