Review: "Genki Yoshimura's script exhibits some chronological problems. When Tomahome arrived in Konan in episode 1, 50 years had passed since the battle at the end of the broadcast series, and Hotohori's grandson was emperor. When Tomahome and Miaka visit Konan in episode 5, only two years have elapsed and Hotohori's infant son occupies the throne. However, these inconsistencies are not likely to trouble fans of this mawkish magical-girl series."Actually, the Konan that Tamahome arrived in (50 years passed) was an illusion. So there is no such inconsistency. Maybe a bit hard to follow, but there was no such mistake made.

Summary: Fantastic Fun For Anime Lovers!!
Review: Begining of the Fushigi Yugi is easy to understand if your a true anime lover and is very exciting from the very begining to the end! To my opinion it is maybe one of the best animes anyone could hope to see. Full of comdey and action as well drama in a few scenes. But the best part is you will never now what happens nexts and it always suprises you. For anyone whos interest has my word for this is a 5 star anime you'll love forever.

Summary: OAV's seem a desperate attempt to assure the original ending
Review: I basically have to say the same as all the other reviewers: that the first 3 episodes are confusing, and honestly, somewhat painful to watch (as in, depressing) but the last six are very emotional and good, sometimes going beyond what the original series did and making you feel more for the supporting cast than they allowed in the original series. But--I painfully admit--that the plotline in no way rivals that of the original 52 episode arc, and can only be enjoyed by those who have watched and thoroughly enjoyed the original series. I think what grabbed me the most about it, personally, was the greater part mountain bandit Tasuki (my favorite character) played in this series, and how well you could see how he had matured and grown over the course of the series and time, just as many of the others characters did as well. But I could go on and on about how good the series was--or how disappointing in some cases--and the real reason I wrote this review, was to correct the original reviewer's mistake. "They" mentioned that there were chronological inconsistencies that didn't make sense, and although there are chronological inconsistencies, I would just like to point out that those inconsistencies are explained in the series, and are in fact part of the first 3-episode story arc. That is all I can say w/out giving the story away, I'm afraid. And also, I couldn't possibly review this OVA w/out honorable mention for the wonderful little "omake"'s at the end of the episodes. If for any other reason, you should SOMEHOW see the OVA's just to see those whacky bits. The bus trip is an absolute riot, and can be shown to your friends or watched on its own, because it gives nothing away to the rest of the series. Some people may not catch all of the little inside jokes (such as those referring to the "Character Vocals" CD's and so on--which I fortunately own, so made perfect sense to me) but still, seeing the characters totally goofing around and acting out of character is too priceless to pass up! And although some of the "Mysterious Play-ing Around" 's are too long and dry, there are a few rare gems that will leave your sides splitting, such as the on-going rivalry between Taitsukun and one of the series' lesser baddies, found only in these little omakes. For those of you huge FY fans out there--great. This set is for you. You MUST have it to be a true FY afficionado. For those of you not willing to fork over the dough, well...you're not missing...TOO much (you poor, broke fools). (GOOD NEWS: Yes, to confirm those suspicions out there, a sequel series is in the works as we speak. The new series, (whom's name I can't recall, but bear w/me) should be released soon in Japan, and hopefully, soon after in America. Yay!!)

Review: I can't help but write reviews on the Fushigi Yugi series, it is my favorite, as you can tell if you read my previous two reviews. The Fushigi Yugi OAV continues with excellence in this nine episode continuation. And as a reminder, the OAV's are far more dramatic then the series, a reason why there are omake theatre sequences at the end, so hopefully you won't be too depressed at the end...didn't work for me though. For other fans of the series, we all know it's a tear jerker, but I'll get into that later. For fans of the series, you will probably most definitely agree that the OAV is very heavy on the heart, and the one reason that I am so passionate about this show. The OAV is broken up into two "parts." The first three episodes of the series will definitely make you confused as all hell, but thankfully it's explained by the third episode. If you are a fan of Tamahome and Miaka, be ready to tear up, if you are truly into the series, you won't help but tear up. Thankfully, all of the Suzaku Seven return, in one form or the other. And again, they have to be reassembled, and finding the spirits is a little more tuff. And there's a new cast of villains in the OAV. Tomo, who isn't as great as Nakago, is the psychotic leader of the "evil" side, and his group of evil comrads don't come close to the original Seryiu Seven. You'll miss Nakago for sure. As I stated before, the first three episodes are tear jerkers, but wait until you see episode four. It is for lack of a better word, gut-renching. I even know guys who were torn up over that episode. Don't get me wrong, there are some other light moments, but it is pretty emotional. The other episodes that follow continue with the same route. You grow to love the characters more and more, for they have all grown so much as individuals. Miaka for one thing, will not annoy you as much, promise. She has evolved into a smart, less gluttoness, and stronger person. She does depend on Tamahome, but can you blame her, they spent all that time trying to protect the world, and protect eachother, and just because the first part of the series is over, don't be stupid to think the dependency is over with. There's also an interesting twist about Tamahome, which you will either love, or absolutely hate, I haven't seen too much of a middle ground. Nuriko is back, and wiser and still the best friend of Miaka, but he grows even closer with Tamahome's character, and is one of most positive characters in the OAV. Tasuki is still the comedic relief, while Chichiri has an episode that actually revolves around him and his past, which you did not see during the regular series. It is quite refreshing. Hotohori is still a bit whiney, but I still love him...and it's obvious that he's over Miaka, thankfully. Like I've said, this series is something I can talk hours about, which is why I can rarely say anything "bad" about it. You'll love the OAV if you loved the series, it is thoughtfully made and devised. Yu Watase us a goddess when it comes to certain aspects of manga/anime, she has a talent for drama, and great characters. Too much to say, but I highly reccomend this to any FY fan, and/ or anime fan.

Summary: LOVED IT!!!
Review: I seriously don't get it...many people who've seen this dislike it, but for the life of me I cannot see why. I mean it is by no means as up to snuff as the actual show was but this is really good too. The first three episodes are not as confusing as everyone thinks. It's very straight forward and in reference to that person who said that the chronology was messed up, well you definitely were not paying attention because it is all explained. However I must admit that the six episode one is better than the three episode one. I especially enjoyed the ova because Tasuki(to think he's my fave and I can't even remember how to spell his name) is involved in this one a lot more. Maybe the ovas are very repetitive of the already established ending in the series but actually I sort of think it's needed. because well...actually I better not explain my reasoning it might spoil something. The omakes are hilarious however so even if you didn't like the ova I dare you to say that you didn't crack up even during the bus omake. Maybe though I love this so much because I enjoyed the series so much. After I finished the series it was like I went through Fushigi Yuugi withdrawal and so it pleased me no end to know that there was more to watch.

Summary: ONE OF THE BEST ANIMES OF ALL TIME!!
Review: I started to watch Fushigi Yugi when I first ordered Vol.1 and then I knew that I have to watch it all, so I couldn't wait till all the volumes are released and ordered the two box sets with the OVA and I don't regret it. It is true that the box sets are expensive somehow but it is worth it. Now I can say that I watched the 52 TV series episodes, 9 OVA series and the Eikoden and they are all excellent. I thought that Ayashi No Ceres is the best, but I was wrong and I found out that Fushigi Yugi is far more better than ceres. Yu Watase is one of the best anime creators and I can't wait till they make Alice 19th a TV series. Anyway, this OVA Boxed Set is a masterpiece. I especially love the Ending Theme of the first two episodes. To tell you the truth, I missed Nakago and Hotohori. It is true that they appeared in the episodes, but they were no more than phantoms or ghosts, so it wasn't that effective. I agree with Ms.Watase that Nakago is one of the best characters and he is one of my favourites too along with Hotohori. I was hoping that Miaka will end up with Hotohori somehow but it didn't happen. It is not that I don't like Taka aka Tamahome, but I think that he is better off with Yui. I liked Yui far more than Miaka and she became a beautiful lady too. I think she and Tetsia can make a good couple. Tasake is a good character and an attractive one too. What can I say more? All I can say is that I will miss this anime and I will always remember it. I'm trying to read the manga now, so I placed an order for the first volume. It is my first time that I ever read a manga. I usually watch the series directly, so I don't find it necessary to read the manga, but I will read Fushigi Yugi. I want to thank Yu Watase for such a great project and the Director for such a good work. I also extended my thanks to Amazon.com for always providing us with such excellent animes for if it weren't for Amazon.com, I don't know what I was going to do. To all of animes freak, watch this one and never miss it. Be sure that you won't regret it.

Summary: Complete Guide to a BEAUTIFUL DVD!
Review: I was quite worried when I bought this DVD Box-set because I have only watched a part of the first season: Suzaku. Although I had read lots of episode summaries and reviews, which contained spoilers, I was still very hesitant.
BUT everything turned out great! The reason why I bought this set was because this set is so much cheaper than the others. The cheapest I have ever seen Suzaku and Seiryuu DVD Box-sets were approximately $145, ...About the small bits about the DVDs: The menus aren't very good and the lack of extras isn't a plus point although the image gallery is absolutely beautiful.
The animation is crisp and clear. Amazing storyline and beautiful artwork. Splendid piece of art.
I think that if one were to watch the Fushigi Yûgi: The Mysterious Play OVAs, they should at least have these minimum requirements:
· Watch the majority of the first season, understanding the concept, and recognizing the plot.
· Know a great deal about what happens next. Now the ending and important tidbits about the storyline. General knowledge about the series helps as well. I don't know why the rating is 16 and up. I guess you really do have to be mature to watch this. There's quite a bit of nudity, sexual matters including attempted rape and a bit of viloence mixed in with blood.
This OVA is a must for either a Fushigi Yûgi Fanatic, Shoujo Lover or Jack-Of-All-Trades Otaku. Once you've finished watching this watch OVA 3: Eikoden (Eternal Light) AMAZING and HEART-WARMING!

Summary: A great continuation to an awesome anime series!
Review: I'm a huge fan of Fushigi Yuugi. If you are too, you should get this OVA boxed set! The Fushigi Yuugi OVAs take place a bit after where the original series takes off. The first three episodes on this DVD are from OVA I, which is simply an anime-only filler to explain how Taka (Tamahome) made his way into Miaka's world. The next six episodes are from OVA II, which in my opinion, is great. It contains many new enemies and many new surprises. My personal favorite episode on this DVD is the 8th episode (which is OVA II episode 5). It focuses on my favorite character, Chichiri. In it, you learn all about his past, and he winds up fighting someone very familiar to him...I won't spoil it, so if you want to know, buy the DVD! This DVD is packed with action, adventure, fighting, and romance (No, I'm never going to get over that super cute Tasuki/Chichiri scene in OVA II eppy 5...heh heh heh...). If you're a fan of the series, you should get this DVD! You won't be disappointed!

Review: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Apparently, the people who made this OVA never heard that expression. I adored the original Fushigi Yugi series and thought the ending was perfect, so this OVA needed something really special about it for me to put it in high regards, and I'm sorry to say that didn't happen. However, I should point out that apparently Charles Solomon failed to watch the entire series, as it is explained why the chronological idiosyncracies exist. I actually gave up on watching the OVAs about four episodes in because I was so BORED by them and went to do something else for a while. I did come back later that day hoping for a payoff similar to the one given to fans who stick with the original series. It never came. I didn't care about the villains, and the story focuses on Tamahome, who, as I've stated in other reviews, does not have a personality. You cannot build a story around a character who doesn't have a personality (not a good one, anyway, as this OVA proves). The best things about the OVA are the little comedic pieces at the end of each episode, rewards, if you will, for those who actually manage to make it through an episode without giving up. The ones where the Suzaku Seven and the Seiryu Seven take charter buses to a hot spring have some side-splittingly hilarious moments. The pieces that parody scenes from the episode they follow contained some jokes I didn't understand, and I'd imagine most who doesn't live in Japan probably wouldn't get them either, but still provided a good laugh nonetheless. Don't watch this OVA if you haven't watched all 52 Fushigi Yugi episodes. Besides the spoilers and the fact that you'll be hopelessly lost (heck, even people who saw the series will often find themselves scratching their heads in a state of "buh?"), it will give you a bad opinion of a great show.
