Summary: Classic Anime Series
Review: Trigun, in my opinion, is THE best and most original anime series to date. It has a certain flair of action, adventure, comedy and even drama and romance. Its the story of Vash the Stampede, a man who the whole world fears. They call him the Humanoid Typhoon. Trouble lurks everywhere he goes and he doesnt know why. The story line for the series is addictive and captivating. I already have the whole series on the seperate DVD set that comes in 8 volumes, but i'm still willing to spend money to purchase the boxed set. Theres a lot to find out in the series, like why theres trouble lurking wherever he goes, why the show is called "TRIGUN" and just who is Vash the Stampede? So grab a couple 2-litter bottles of your favorite soda, grab a couple bags of chips and get ready to get stuck on your couch, glued to the tv, watching TRIGUN.

Summary: TRIGUN's a masterpiece, unique & ultimately brilliant anime
Review: I started to get the TRIGUN series of anime after reviews on the net and various other sources recommended it. After getting the first DVD entitled The $$60,000,000,000 Man, I was hooked. TRIGUN features some of the strongest characters I have seen in Japanese animation. The stories are individual but build into the entire development of each character and especially the strange hero, Vash the Stampede. I won't ruin it for you by revealing any of the plot. This series is absolutely brilliant, each story is carefully thoughout and contains an enormous amount of humour (sometimes adult in theme) but the hero himself is a beautiful character that is superbly drawn. This hero is a bit like Clint Eastwood's The Man With No Name from the Dollars Spaghetti westerns. He enters towns as a drifter and is the ultimate in cool, but what sets him aside from other heroes is he acts like an idiot and does some really crazy stuff along the way. I love the English dub to this series, one of the finest and carefully put together dubs ever and it is probably even better than the Japanese soundtrack because it is so funny. The producers couldn't have found a better voice actor for the hero. The music to this series is excellent, from spanish guitars to heavy metal guitars, it never ceases to be cool. A superb soundtrack with many interesting instruments and styles sets mood and emotions.This series is the ultimate anime treat, I have started to collect the series on DVD but now I'm just going to get the DVD box set instead. This series works on so many levels and is a highly intelligent, thought provoking series with a high level of comedy. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Review: Hmmm, I seem to be somewhere between the "I hate this compared to Cowboy Bebop" and the "Best Anime Ever" crowds. FYI- I've seen both complete series, and to be fair, you can't compare them without lots of qualifications (it's apples and oranges). First, the good stuff. I found the story line to be intriguing and it evolved nicely to build a sense of mystery around the past of the main character, Vash, and his antagonist, Knives. I also like the way some of the ethical/moral dilemnas were presented and forced to resolution, and they weren't always resolved by the main character. I should caution that the first few episodes are very light-hearted and not really related to the overall plot - so don't get discouraged if you're looking for "the great plot I read about" and don't see it for a while. Personally, I found the last 3 or 4 episodes to be excellent and the final confrontation was REALLY well done - original, stylish, and well-drawn. Now the bad stuff. As far as animation quality, visual design, and mechanical design goes the series is so-so: The backgrounds are simplistic, very monochromatic (even taking into consideration that they're on a planet that's mostly desert), and are a bit lower quality than what I'd expect from an anime of its time. The character animation sometimes suffers from poor perspective and chunky movement (like when Wolfwood tries to grab the apple from Chapel's hands). Don't worry - there are scenes with really memorable renderings, like the enraged look on Knives' face in July. It's just inconsistent, and it's likely due to cost - most anime series that don't have a big bankroll can't afford top artists to work on the cells for every scene. And the mechanical designs for close-ups of weapons are sometimes too far off the mark (if you're familiar with firearms and tend to notice these things). Unfortunately, it's the main character's gun that suffers the most serious and obvious mechanical design flaw - revolvers must have the barrel, a cylinder chamber (usually at 12 o'clock not 6 o'clock) and the hammer in alignment. His doesn't. And the close-ups of Wolfwood's semi-auto are completely unrealistic regarding the barrel, slide, and action. Again, this only matters if you're familiar with firearms and notice this sort of thing (I did, but it wasn't so annoying that I couldn't ignore it and enjoy the series anyway). Overall, I like the series - enough to have watched the last few episodes over and over again. If you're a complete technical nerd with serious hang-ups about details, maybe this isn't the best series. If you like series with interesting characters and inventive plot lines, give it a try - especially if you can watch it on Adult Swim before deciding to buy the DVDs. But again, be aware that the tone changes a lot after the first few episodes.

Summary: Trigun - An amazing work of Animation
Review: Trigun... This single word signifies the epic series that changed my view of Japanese Anime in nearly a heartbeat. Up until I was subjected to the story portrayed in said series, I was aware of only a handful of extremely wonderful Japanese Anime programs, specifically Ranma ½ and Dragon Ball Z, to name a few. Considering that my view of Japanese Anime is limited to more-or-less the aforementioned series, I was a little unprepared for what lay ahead in the 26 episode mini-saga of Trigun. For those not in the know, Trigun was released in 1998, was originally created by Yasuhiro Nightow (manga) and is directed by Satoshi Nishimura (Anime). It is the story of Vash the Stampede (Johnny Young) and his struggle to come to terms with his tortured past. Becoming involved along the way with the misguided Humanoid Typhoon are Milly Thompson (Lia Sargent) and Meryl Strife (Dorothy Melendrez) of the Bernadelli Insurance Agency, who were assigned to Vash in an attempt to avert the damage he may cause in his future exploits. Also drawn into Vash's destiny is Nicholas D. Wolfwood, a traveling priest who carries a massive cross that carries an amazing secret. Trying to escape a sordid past of his own, Vash and Wolfwood are fast friends. These are the four main characters of the story. Along the way they come across some pretty colorful characters, ranging from crazy drunks to crazy puppet masters. It's madness! As I said before, the story involves Vash the Stampede and his endless struggle to come to terms with his horrid past and a shadowy figure that haunts him throughout his life. Vash is a pacifist to the extreme. Despite his reputation as a horrid, womanizing destroyer of towns, Vash would rather kick back and enjoy a nice plate of donuts than fight an opponent. This is demonstrated time and again through the series. However, his motives are sometimes questionable, his actions even more so. Now, I'll stop there. Any more and I could ruin storyline for anyone who hasn't seen the series or read the manga. However, I will comment on the form of the series for those not in the known. A warning, if you will. Trigun is intense. The first three episodes I saw on a friend's computer. They were in their original Japanese and I found them to be quite comical. I did a bit of research and read an article that said the series pulls a 180 a little less than halfway in. This friend and I wound of going and renting the first five volumes. Episodes 1-16. I've finally seen episodes 17-26 and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that Trigun is one of the darkest Anime series I've seen thus far. The article was in no way lying. I never expected the subject matter to take such a swift, dark turn. The characters can be quite vulgar and violent. There's no way around it. The story gets depressing. If you grow to love these characters, grow to feel the struggle they encounter, grow to want to see them succeed... Then you can't help but want to cry for these people. In fact, if you do grow to love these characters, you will probably bawl like babies in the last four episodes... especially an episode involving a very touching scene between Milly and Wolfwood... The series defiantly connects with me on a lot of different emotional levels. To quote Meryl, "Everyone who has become involved with him, has somehow gained an emotion they had once lost." This is quite true, even for myself. Seeing these characters in action is an emotional roller coaster. Trigun is an amazing work of Animation done correctly. The only true flaw is the ending... it titters off, leaving too many questions and not enough answers. It'd lead one to believe that another series were in the works. With luck, "Trigun: Maximum" will become an Anime soon enough and hit American shores, because the story of Vash the Stampede simply isn't done. A perfect display of how voice acting and animation can be quite effective in pulling on emotionl heart strings. I suggest this series to any Anime fan.

Review: This is obviously one of the best animes I have ever seen. I can even say it rivals the mythological Eva series in sheer fun to watch. (Watch me get flamed now!)... Trigun is good, the character development is great, the story is well thought out and planned perfectly. People who say 'Cowboy Bebop is a masterpiece' compared to this anime, are soley mistaken. Cowboy Bebop has a pathetic main plot compared to Trigun. Trigun has such a great story, firmly interwoven to have you believe one thing, but yet be presented with another. The moral problems that Vash faces raise extremely thought provoking questions about life, and what we do in it. I've noticed that people flame this for having plotholes as well. That's simply not true...everything is explained to a very satisfying extent... Needless to say the dubbing is great, so are the supporting characters, who have you laughing almost as much as Vash does. The serious plot twist midway through the series is welcome, and takes the viewer off guard. Trigun is a great series, with well-fitting music and amazing character development. Anyone who says it isn't, needs to sit down, and actually watch as well as listen.

Summary: Brilliant!! One of the best I have ever seen!
Review: Trigun is, without a doubt, one of the best animes out there. It has a perfect mix of action, adventure and real emotion that is usually hard to find. It is well executed with supurb writing, diverse and memorable characters, and a terrific story. This box set, which contains 8 dvd's, is well worth the money, especially to any true otaku fan. The hero of this story is Vash "The Stampede." He is a handsome blond haired man who wears a long blood-red jacket and has a wicked silver gun, and has a multi-layered personality. He also has an incredible 60,000,000,000 double dollar bounty on his head. In the first couple of dvd's he seems like nothing more than a goofy, lovable guy who loves donuts and attracts trouble like a magnet. No matter where he travels, as soon as people hear he is "Vash the Stampede" they immediately go after him to take his life. Sometimes it is for the bounty money, other times it is for more personal reasons. However, as the story progresses he reveals that he is heroic, brave, intelligent, and is someone who refuses to kill anyone no matter what the cost to himself. It is this strong belief of his that causes him tremendous pain and suffering throughout the series. I haven't watched the Japanese dubbed version yet, and to be honest, I probably will not bother to. The English voice acting is wonderful. All of the voice actors delivered performances full of feeling and energy. The standout is Jonny Yong Bosh who did the voice of Vash. Mr. Bosh's voicework as Vash is exceptional. He makes the viewer believe that the hero is, even with all of his incredible talents, just a person like any other who hates violence and desperatly seeks "Love and Peace" for himself and others.
The music is great, particularly that of the opening theme song which is my personal favourite. Each epsiode is well drawn, although the characters in certain scenes could have smoother movements. But who can complain when you have a story as amazing as Trigun. As you watch each dvd the series gradually builds up to a climax in the final dvd (disc 8), and the ending is very satisfying with no loose ends or unanswered questions (unless you're a little slow). Trigun is a creative and memorable series with a hero who you actually feel for and grow to love. The saddest aspect of the story for me was that even though Vash did whatever he could to avoid violence and to protect those around him, he is almost constantly surrounded by violence, death and pain both for himself and the innocent people around him. Nevertheless, Trigun is a truly impressive series, and if want an original and interesting series that rivals greats like Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop in quality then you must get this box set.

Summary: good for some, bad for others
Review: I'm not a huge fan of the Trigun series, as compared to some others (Cowboy Bebop for one), but I feel it's a decent anime. Yes, I am one of those people who do use Cowboy Bebop as a litmus. I agree it's not a totally fair comparison, but I feel there's some validity in comparing two series that were about the same length (episode-wise), in a fairly similar genre. If they don't have the resources to hire animators to create a stunning visual work, and writers to create a thought-provoking storyline, well...you'll get a series that's poorer quality! BUT, I feel Trigun does transcend it's production limitations to an extent. The animation in Trigun is not the best, but one could argue that the simplicity does not detract from the story-telling. Only a few times did I catch myself thinking "wow, that looked really bad" instead of paying attention to the story and basic action. To be fair, I've done that with Cowboy Bebop, albeit far less than Trigun. The world in Trigun is a desolate one, so details and beautiful panaromas do not matter too much. As with any anime, the people on the screen are caricatures...even in Cowboy Bebop (I mean, do they all really wear the same clothes all the time?). Obviously I'm not a huge stickler when it comes to the quality of animation, so if you don't think you can get around a more simplistic approach then perhaps Trigun isn't for you. The story has a couple of levels to it...humor and action at the surface, with issues of conflicting loyalty, revenge, and redemption at its core. It helps that I love westerns, and a blend with my other favorite genre, sci-fi, is irresistable to me. Where Cowboy Bebop's characters were pretty deep and well-written, Trigun's characterizations seem to fall short, despite having some interesting themes going on with each major player. I didn't like the arch-villain...I felt Knives was one-dimensional, although his history with his brother Vash is intriguing. Yes, Vash is a wuss...but that makes him interesting. Not all action series needs a Rambo protangonist. Vash is a man who is running away, and only confronts his personal demons at the later part of the show. It wouldn't be an interesting story if Vash was this simple killer, who had no fear. Plus Vash is often hilarious...Trigun is one of the rare series that I've actually laughed out loud watching. The female characters are all pretty weak. Bottom-line is that I feel that there was just a lot of potential with the characters, but most of that potential went untapped. The DVD package/design was okay. There was one techincal problem I encountered with turning off the subtitles. Perhaps others don't have this problem, but I could not turn off the subtitles via the internal DVD menu. I have to do it through my own system (I have a subtitle button on my remote). I shouldn't complain, since it's easier to do it via one-touch remote, but just wanted to mention it. Trigun isn't for everyone. Many won't be able to get around the production limitations. I certaily would not buy the entire collection unless you've seen some of the episodes already. Thanks for reading!
