Summary: a new world
Review: Everytime I think I am a mature anime viewer, I rent something someone 'suggests' to me, and am bowled over. I was in BestBuy and a dude suggested I watch Kite, since I liked NScroll and VHD, though Kite is nothing along those lines. He asked if I'd seen Wicked City, I said 'Yeah I love that'. He said well then you'll love Kite, you're a girl and you like Henche movies. I said what?? Henche movies, what are those? He wrote down this website and said lookup these movie clips and rent Kite; she was so Bada>>ss...Though the ending the very very ending made me angry I loved the characters even the baddies. Her cohort in the film is also an orphan vigilante working for the crooked cops as is she. They develop a strange kinship in the film that directs Kite's actions into the climax. I didn't see the DVD but the animation on the VHS was quite rich and colorful, dubbing was good, and voice-acting on point. I only wish it were longer.

Summary: Grimy, but not enough soul
Review: Two versions of Kite are available on DVD, I saw the longer version. Kite asks the question: What would have happened, if in the Luc Besson film Leon:The Professional, the young Matilda had not been taken in by the good-hearted Leon after the death of her parents, but had instead been taken in by the dubious (at best) renegade policeman played by Gary Oldman? From this question, the story of Kite was born, and the answer to what would happen is, in short, nothing much that is good for anyone involved. The future we find Matilda living in - or Sawa as she is named here - is a bleak one, filled with guns and violence and a terrible dependence on the cop. The story is basically an account of the days in which she may at last divorce herself from the codependence, but it is difficult to root for her because one constantly wonders why she hadn't had the strength to do this already. Flashbacks tell the tale of how she got to where she was, but the story lacks any defining moment where she realizes her true self or her potential. There's some revenge here and there, but her character remains somewhat enigmatic (or just poorly shared with the audience). And for that reason, the film doesn't have the connection with the audience which Luc Besson's original does. The film also, despite being rather short (even the directors cut), sometimes seems drawn out as if the animation is going a tad too slow. One sequence deserves mention: an anime version of the bathroom shootout from Arnold Schwartzenaeger's True Lies, which outdoes the original. That's just mindless action though. In summary, not enough soul here to balance or redeem the grimyness.

Summary: Great movie
Review: I really liked this movie. It was very good and very well drawn. I thought that Sawa was a very goodlooking girl. I too saw the uncut and it is much better. But this one will do, all of the main plots are included. Good movie.

Summary: A mesmerizing movie!
Review: Wow, this is an amazing movie. This is the "cut" version, but it is still great. I had the fortune of obtaining the Uncut version, and while it has more "graphic" everything, this is still a good version.

This story is about Sawa, a young girl, who was orphaned when her parents were murdered. She is taken in and "adopted" by Akai, the Police Detective assigned to her parents murder investigation. Sawa, reminiscant of "La Femme Nikita" is an assasian of sorts. Ordered about by her keeper Akia, she must do his bidding. Sawa meets Oburi, yet another vigilante such as she, a young man, and sparks fly. They develop a friendship of sorts. While Sawa is a girl of few words, her face and expressions speak a thousand of them.

I absolutely loved this movie. If you love a good Japanese anime, then this is for you. If you love a good action packed flick, then this is for you. The animation is so well drawn, it is mind boggling. The scenes are so realistic, but the storyline is definately NOT for children. I give this movie two thumbs up, and so will you!

Summary: Way too short
Review: I really liked this movie. As I watched it I was really getting into the story and the characters. The artwork is beautiful and some of the action scenes are incredible. But just when it starts to get really good the movie is over. This movie needed at least another hour to fully develop the plot and characters. There's a little love story between the girl and a murderous young guy but it never gets explored. There's also a connection between the girl and her parents that never get explored. This story has so much more to offer but there is simply not enough time to do it in this 45min movie.

Summary: big action, small story
Review: there is one amazing action scene in this movie...I think it's worth watching [maybe not owning] just for that. the story is not very developed, though.

Summary: NOT WHAT YOU'D EXPECT
Review: Well, according to back cover...this movie is about a college-aged girl who fights crime as a vigilante. O.K., I was thinking something along the lines of the Professional meets Alias. I couldn't have been more wrong. The violence in this movie is extreme and the plot is pretty bad as well. The whole point is this girl who goes around killing child-molesters, yet all this while she herself is in an abusive relationship with a much-older man. Why this movie only got a 16 and up age suggestion is beyond me. And what is worse, from other reviews, I think I saw the cut version. (I can't imagine how much worse this movie would be with another 15 minutes of sex and gore.) Perhaps even more disturbing than the subject matter is the ending -- very absurdist, reminiscent of American Beauty. This DVD is a sad commentary on our depraved, postmodern society. I got duped into renting it -- so don't get duped into buying it!

Summary: Outstanding animation
Review: I really enjoyed the movie Kite. The story is the most compelling element of the film. It's about a young girl who's taken in by a crooked police officer who trains her to be an assassin. The action sequences are simply breath taking. Some might call the movie "violent" but that's the real atention graber. It's not senseless violence, it all a vivid display of action that truly keeps the story moving and keep your eyes wanting more.

...some parts I rewinded 3 or 4 times just to see it again...you must add this one to your collection.. you won't be sorry.

Summary: An Unexplained Anime Review
Review: I was very anxious to see the Uncut version of Kite, or kee-tay as I called it, and I finally manage to see that Anime, but when I see the entire movie...man, it was very hard to explain. First off, the plot is very questionable, this movie has got to be the first I've ever seen that deals with a lot of...'DEPTH'. There are still many things in this movie that I still don't understand: What's the real reason that Akai wants Sawa to assasinate certain innocent people, why can Sawa just have the heart to decide not to kill those people and find a solution to that, and mainly, why Akai killed Sawa's parents? There are many more questions unanswered, but I don't want to spoil it to the people, all I can say is that none of this makes sense, except for the fact that Akai is a perverted, child-raping nutcase! The animation and characters in this anime is good, but not at a same level as 'Ghost In The Shell', and everything else..just forget it!

Overall...this is very hard to give the final result for 'Kite' uncensored. I watched it so many times, and this whole excessive-meaningless gory violence and the whole child pornography of this Anime still doesn't help me understand this. For now, I give this 2 stars, because...well I don't know. This movie is just too much for me.

Summary: This is incomplete
Review: Kite (the full true name is "A KITE") probably is one of the nastiest and perverted releases in anime history. But anyway it is a great movie with conciderable depth and good traditional handmade drawing. Its nastyness comes from realistic massive violence and explicid raping scenes including child rape. The whole is obviously done to provoke ambivalence in the viewers mind, who feels attracted and disgusted almost in one instant. The movie is forbidden in Germany and to some extent for good reason. It takes an intellectually and morally stabel and mature viewer not to be dangerously influenced by this movie. The directors cut is rather roughly cut and therefore doesn't represent the true idea and intention of this film. I can only recommend the uncut version and only recommend it to very mature viewers.
