Summary: Incredible attention to detail
Review: This is definitely a DVD worth getting. The attention to detail is absolutely incredible. The story line is a bit complex and hard to follow (if you haven't read the manga, which I have) ... still, very easy to get into ... and worth collecting

Summary: A grand, intelligent, and brilliant Science Fiction
Review: There will always be people who hate this film... those "hardcore anime" fans who didn't like it because they expected animated sex, and mindless gore, but what they got was a slow-moving, intelligent science fiction with ideas.

The film is animated, but it is the most mature (in the sense of non-cartoony) animation you will see, with stylization flawlessly integrated in such detailed, accurate, traditional hand-drawn animation. Even though the film's plot leaves you hanging a bit at the end, it presents many brilliant and intresting ideas about the future, mostly about what may be the next step of evolution for mankind. There's no sex, but a bit of violence (but hardly "mindless"), with a bizzare and beautiful soundtrack. For those who enjoyed films like "Patlabor 1", "Blade Runner", "Wings of Honneamise", and "Gattaca", you will absolutely love this film.

Summary: Don't listen to anyone about this movie...JUST ME. I care.
Review: THIS MOVIE IS, PLAINLY AND SIMPLY, THE GREATEST ANIMATED MOVIE EVER MADE. This is great cinema. You know how great Sergio Leone films make you feel? It's that great feeling you get when you know you're in the hands of a true master. You can feel all the time, dedication, and love everyone put forth to create Ghost In The Shell. It's perfect, from the first frame to the last.

Summary: Up there with Akira.
Review: This movie was stylish and engrossing. The first since Akira to actually be on, and actually above, the level of 'true sci-fi classic'. As anime I put it with Akira but for sheer cinematic quality, visual flare, creative content and the more generic quality on 'entertainment value' it ranks with Blade Runner, 12 monkeys and other leaders of the genre. I'm overjoyed with owning the movie itself but all of the extra things included on the DVD make this a first-class edition to anyones DVD library.

Summary: A great Sci-Fi, a great Animé, just. . . .great.
Review: Definately one of my favorite animés, and the story and moral issues (Is it possible for a Machine to be Human?) rank right up there with Blade Runner. The movie takes place in Hong Kong of the future and stars a cybernetically enhanced govenment agent, Motoko Kusanagi, and her partner, Bateau. The antogonist is 'The Puppet Master' a person who takes control of androids' brains, or 'ghosts' and hacks into them to get important information. I don't wat to give away too much, but the following events cause Motoko to doubt her own humanity. People complain about the story being confusing. You just have to watch it a few times to catch the underlying plot elements that make the story come together as a whole. People also complain about the end. Well, it wasn't the end. The movie was based on the first part of the Japanese Comic, the rest of which has neither been adapted into a move nor translated into english. Well that about sums it up, if you have enough money, BUY THIS MOVIE.

Summary: Matoko is mmm mmm good.
Review: You know, I've never banged a cartoon chick before, but if I did, I'd bang Matoko Kusanagi. She ranks right up there with Princess Jasmine from Aladdin. And I bet Bateau would agree. Seriously though, I love this movie. The animation is so realistic it's astonishing. Except for the scenes with the old police chief, it's eye candy from start to finish. The story is mostly good, but the ending is unsatisfying. Especially considering that there hasn't been a sequel yet. (has there?) I find the car chase scene absolutely beautiful. It's very hypnotic. I also like the visual of the tank being hit by Bateau's "Big Gun". Just about every visual element of this movie is so realistic. It's amazing. I've watched this movie at least a dozen times since I got it on DVD a week ago, and I also saw it at Piper's Alley theatre in Chicago in 1995 when it first came out. Two of our friends that saw it with us fell asleep twenty minutes into the film. I can almost sympathize with them as most of the movie is so sedate. I wonder if that's the influence of the Shinto and Buddhist religions in Japan. As a piece of visual and sonic art, this film is one of the best ever. Even with the weak ending, it still blows me away every time.Brian M.

Summary: The best acustics on any DVD I have.
Review: The Dolby Digital really shines with this movie. I'm a sound nut. Any room I design I do it so that the sound will be the most important feature. And this movie takes sound to another level. (With a good configured system, and the volume turned way up, pay close attention to the "Hyper Velocity shells scene." The soundtrack matches the overal quality of the movie.

Summary: Really a unique film for the genre.
Review: Ghost in the Shell has a very cranial plot, so those viewers who think anime is nothing more than flying guts and warped tentacles might as well crawl back into their sewer, because they're not going to like it. On the other hand, anyone who has seen and appreciated 2001 or Royal Space Force: Wings of Onneamis will love Ghost in the Shell. The movie is much more complex than it actually appears, and has a fascinating plot surrounding the destination of the human soul in the future, although the more memorable images are of rampant gunfire and Motoko Kusanagi's omnipresent bare breasts. The animation is excellent in both its computer and cel forms, although the character design is very original - and very worthwhile. Ghost in the Shell surpasses Akira as a vehicle for the popular display of anime largely because of its more charismatic cast and its fascinating plot. Akira dealt with similar subject matter, had a longer running time, and had the same high-quality animation that Ghost in the Shell has, but Ghost is better because it can be widely appreciated not for its spectacle but for its intelligence. Both Akira and Ghost in the Shell had important messages in them. Unfortunately Akira's violence has become a myth in its own right instead of incidental. Some people will fault Ghost in the Shell for not going to the same extremes. They should stick to Akira. In short, if you want beautiful, intelligent and original anime, Ghost in the Shell is for you. It is the showcase that Manga Video promoted, but not in the way they think it is. Still, you don't want to miss it.

Summary: Boring!!!
Review: The most boring anime I've seen! Confusing plot that never gets together. The great animation is what saves this movie!
