Summary: THE ULTIMATE ANIME!!
Review: Ninja Scroll takes place in feudal japan and is about a war with a masterless ninja whom travels the land (Jubei) accompanied by beautiful female ninja whose touch can bring instant death (Kagero) and an annoying--but wise old man (Dakuan). The three encounter various ninja warriors (8 in total) and eventually each is basically killed in really cool ways...

Moving on, in comparison to Wrath of the Ninja--this film is kickass... hands down. I had never seen Ninja Scroll before, only Wrath of the Ninja... I was really missing something in my life... as Wrath of the Ninja was a bit too basic, a bit dark and boring. The beauty of Ninja Scroll is it's colour and direction of animation... not to mention the surround sound (English audio). This is followed up by the immense amount of blood and nekkid women. To say the least it's a crowd pleaser.

Moving on to the DVD details, the only thing I noticed in comparison to the VHS (which I taped in EP) and the DVD is the detail in the colour blending. Other than that... it's just as good. If you're looking for extras... there's not much there really. There's brief bios for the characters, a trailer (in Japanese) and two commercials for Manga. But if you're a KMFDM fan like I am... you'll take interest in the Manga video commercial with crystal clear audio and video. The only drawback to this package is that it's only presented in full screen and not widescreen. That and the disc art sucks. But other than those... it's worthy of slapping down 20 to 35 bucks. Especially since it's one of the all-time greatest animes and easy to comprehend.

Summary: Too Intense
Review: This movie is very intense, even for adults. The Plot is very good, but it'd be a lot better without so much so fast. The movie has, though, earned all 5 stars.

Summary: Ninja Scroll DVD
Review: Ninja Scroll is definitely worth watching -- with subtitles. The English version doesn't do this film justice. If you buy this on DVD, I suggest immediately setting the language to Japanese with subtitles.

The storyline develops slowly at first and requires your attention. This is unique to anime, so if you're the casual watcher of anime, you may have to watch the film twice to catch the plot. Also, like British television, anime has its own unique humor, which is better understood if you can actually understand Japanese.

One item often misunderstood in the states is that cartoons are for kids. One reason why anime is called anime is to differentiate it from cartoons. This film definitely has adult themes, but I wouldn't have a problem with letting someone in 7th grade and beyond watch it.

I would have given this anime 5 stars, but there are so many more deserving films I can think of. My suggestions to any one new to anime is to immediately pick up Akira. The animation is fantastic. Then, I'd suggest some diversity with Slayers, Evangelion, Macross (sorry, I'm an ole Robotech fan), Ranma 1/2. I'd give all these series a 5.

Enjoy anime!

Summary: Definitely exceeded my expectations
Review: My anime veteran friends got together one night without me (Grrr...) and watched Ninja Scroll. *Ahem* I believe they called it "a very...uh..'interesting' experience." They hated it. In fact, they absolutely loathed it. They never want to see that movie again. Undaunted by this volley of criticism, I decided to at least rent the movie. I was pleasantly surprised, this movie HAD a plot! I was even able to sympathize with Jubei and Kogaro. I found that the only thing bad about this movie were the frequent gratuitous nudity scenes, which probably incurred my friends' immature attitudes toward the nudity. I thought that the nudity was tasteless but necessary for the film, in a show of humiliation of Kogaro. Other than that, there isn't much that I can say against Ninja Scroll. Yet I still don't understand why they chose this title for the movie since there is no mention of a "ninja scroll" in the movie. One note to those who are my friends who happen to be browsing the web, no offense. ~Oracle~the Guardian of Angel~

Summary: Stunning and powerful
Review: I bought this on a whim, have seen it 4 times, and it keeps getting better. My wife, who hates most things anime and sci-fi, was blown away by it. Her first words: "This isn't for kids". Indeed it's not. The plot is a variation on the 'one lone man' of (say) Eastwood's spaghetti westerns, but the entire feel is Japanese. I won't summarize the plot (others have done that better). What I will say is that this movie will stick with you for both the story and the emotions long after the latest popcorn flick has vanished from your mind. Highly recommended (and I don't say that often.)

Summary: Great DVD
Review: This is one of the great advantages to owning japanese anime on DVD. For one, you can get maximum clarity in your image. Also, you can watch the film in english, get the authenticity of japanese W/ english subtitles, or you can see it in other languages (none of which I can remember or even watch). But most importantly, this is one of the greatest animes (in my opinion). This movie has tons of action, a great storyline, and awsome characters and character development. If you have the money, this DVD is a definite MUST!

Summary: Ninja Scroll - The Badass Brute of Anime
Review: The action ranges from artful to tasteless, and most of the sexual content can only be described as the latter, but the anime is still more awesome than almost everything out there because of the high quality visual and musical aspects. Also, the characters are unique and well developed throughout the story, and the plot is involving while not being overly complex. Most people say this anime is mindless fun. Well... they're mostly right. Highly recommended.

Summary: The best sword action you'll ever see!
Review: This movie is one of the best animes I have seen, and I have watched quite a few. First off, excellent story. Jubei is one of the most believable characters, and he makes the whole Squall Leonhart tough guy image in a sword wielding warrior! Now, with the combination of Jubei and Kagero, this movie has absolute chimistry like watching two lovers dance. The fight scenes are intense and immersive. You find yourself wanting more after the masterpiece ends, and sadly their is more. The sequel, to put it mildy was a big dissapointment. This movie gets an A+++
