Summary: Go Gene!
Review: This is one of my few favorite animes, and it is the best! I missed the first few episodes, and now that I have them, the ending seems to make sense. Please watch this very wonderful series!

Summary: The best anime I have seen in over a decade
Review: This has to be the best anime since Urusei Yatsura! It has comedy, and lots of action!

I really recomend this disc set! Far better than the version on Adult Swim.

Summary: A safe buy for those new to anime
Review: As most people do, I started my anime career by watching the ever-popular Dragonball Z. After I realized that that show no longer did it for me. I began to search for something with a little more depth and originality. I was lucky enough to come across an anime such as this one.

Many people in America may have a problem relating to anime's that have a great deal of japanese culture woven into the story, but I have found that the storyline focuses more on a healthy portion of action, character development, and of course...humor! Don't miss out on this high quality, fast paced anime.

Summary: to anyone who read Freespace's review...
Review: IGORE WHAT FREESPACE SAID. you will be so much happier if you do, b/c OLS is the first series that got me into anime. it's cool, somewhat original, has a great cast, magic, wonder... lets just cut to the chase, I love Outaw Star. It's right up there with Princess Mononoke, Cowboy Bebop, Tenchi, in fact, someday it might be considered a classic like "Phoenix". I hope you enjoy this DVD like i did; it really opened my eyes to Japanese animation.

This is the story of his adventures threw Outerspace while he is looking for the Galactic Leyline with his "partner in crime" Jim Hawking, a Cataral-Catarl named Ashiya Clan-Clan, a Skilled assen named "Twilite" Suzuka, the ship named "The Outlaw Satr" with the main computer named Gillium III, and the Bio-android named Melfina who is the Navagationest......(spelling uncertian)...... Gene over time developes a love for Melfina..... but what happens in the end..... well you'll just have to buy all 3 DVD's to find that all........ but I really liked this series^^ I hope you buy it^^

Summary: One of the best animes I've ever seen!
Review: I first watched OLS on Cartoon Network (BAD editing job, CN), but i wanted to watch the Uneditied version of it (which is 10 times better than CN's job) I also wanted to see "Hot Springs Planet Tenrei", which they don't show on CN (something about dirty picutes). Anyway, i love this series!

Gene Starwind is your average guy. He owns Starwind & Hawking Enterpries with his friend Jim Hawking. They both have adventures with an assassin, a babe android, a Ctal Ctal who will rip your arms off of thier sockets if you call her an animal, and the coumpter of the Outlaw Star! There's some nudity in the show, but this isn't a porno anime. A must-see!

Summary: A classic 'Anime-series !
Review: I didn't really find an interest to the OLS-series at first, but after seeing it on Toonami, I thought it was a pretty good start !(although the Toonami version was edited for content !)

This is one of the best I have seen yet, along with ''DBZ'' and the ''Tenchi Muyo'' series . It has an excellent set of characters, not to mention the intense non-stop action !!! OLS is the timeless and unforgettable anime' about 2-buds: Gene Starwind and Jim Hawking .

''Starwind-and-Hawking'' is the company that they own, and I believe that they are repairmen or something like that . Gene is caught-up in a conspiracy about a legendary space-ship known as: the ''OUTLAW STAR''(a.k.a. XG-P) . A vicious group called the 'kay pirates are out to retrieve the deadly craft to discover the secrets to the Galactic-Leyline, a mysterious dimensional-like world that can grant wishes .

By twist-of-fate, Gene and young Jim have no choice but to retreive the ''OUTLAW STAR'' and unlock its many secrets . Melfina, a bio-android aids them along the way due to that she can navigate the ship .

Later, they meet new allies, which include: Suzuka, a sword wielding samarai and Aisha Clan-Clan a Catarl-Catarl . They all decide to unlock the secrets to the Leyline before the pirates do and escape a troublemaking-bunch known as the Mcdougal Bros. who also want the spacecraft under their possession !

What secrets do the mysteries of the Leyline hold ? and who will triumph ? This series also has a nice soundtrack to it and beautifully-set backgrounds ! Its a little bit like a crossover between ''Star Wars'' and ''The Matrix'' which makes this an excellent anime-series !

Summary: Wild Anime series that is a totally fun
Review: How can I best describe Outlaw Star? One statment: Totally fun. This anime series isn't a thinking man anime, it anime series where you have fun watching it and it a great escape anime as well. You aren't pleage with soul searching questions like you do with EVA or unanswered question like with The Big O. This series is meant for one thing, fun. Yes do you have the unanswered question, but none of them are ones that will kept you up at night.
Like most people in the US I saw Outlaw Star when it was on CN and while CN is good to intorduce you to a series. The best way to view this series is unedited, this is because Outlaw Star was gutted like a fish by the editers on CN and this is do the fact to the age group this series was targeted to. But seeing Outlaw Star unedited fixes the lack of communitity that you get with the CN version. Outlaw Star is the type of Anime that you should watch load because all of the sound effects that are all over the place. The picture quaility is great and like with most series that are releae by Bandai the English Dub is not only good, but great.

Summary: Uneccessary Anime
Review: Many people continually tell me "OMIGOD!!! THIS IS A GREAT ANIME!!! WATCH IT, IT'S SOOOOO AWESOME!!!"......it's not that I "don't" respect their opinions, I just have my own. Personally, I find "Outlaw Star" to be an unwelcome anime in the "future western" genre. Why? For the following resons:

1). For a "future western" anime, it has nothing to do with anything western in it. The galaxy seems as if a wealthy Hong Kong entrepeneur bought out every planet and branded it "wild west." Almost had me fooled.

2). The characters are lame. Gene can't fight his own battles, and doesn't have ANY redeeming qualities; Aisha is a typical cat girl; Melfina lacks anything interesting in her; Sazuka uses the same exact move in EVERY battle; and Jim needs to be punched. The only interesting character is Gilliam, and even he doesn't hold a candle to other talking computers in anime.

3). The villains are uninteresting and tend to repeat themselves. Oh did I say villains? Seriously, manequins are more interesting then these pititful excuses.

4). The soundtrack is boring and uninspiring. Wow, no matter how far into the future you are, you can never escape the fact that the musical score sounds just like "Gundam Wing." And the opening song? Don't get me started.

5). It's a "Cowboy Bebop" rip off.

In the end, don't waste your money. Use it for "Evangalion" or even "Black Jack." But if you need your "future western"-fix, try "Trigun," or try to find some old episodes of "Sabre Rider and the Star Sherifs" for that matter. Avoid this one.
