Rating: Summary: Sweet Angels! Review: Another of Pioneer's budget DVDs, this one is worth every penny. Somewhat a parody of Dirty Pair, it's the story of Mew and Mica, two delinquent alien agents sent to protect earth, and the unfortunate boy who knows their secret. The writing is just great; Mew and Mica are the pinnacle of apathy and a great comic duo. The dubbing is exceptional and the subtitle good. Only two episodes of such quality material is a shame, but is the complete series as far as I know. My only gripe is the missing music videos and live action skits that graced the LDs and videos. I understand this was a budget DVD but the loss is felt. It's really funny, 4 stars.
Rating: Summary: Its better than Pokemon.. Review: For every Spriggan, there is Anime like "Hyper Doll", its the law I guess. This cheap, corny series is not the worst Anime that I have seen, but it comes pretty close. Like Sailor Moon, Hyper Dolls has a similar plot line, bad jokes and poor animation quality. The "plot": Two girls get all powered up and beat up monsters threatening the city, *yawn*. Its like "Legend of the Overfiend" without the sex and graphic violence. ZZzzzzzz..Yes, it is better than Pokemon, but there are some really great Anime series out there (Outlaw Star, Cowboy Beebop) that make Hyperdolls look like the tired animated goop that it is.
Rating: Summary: Hyper Dolls, the easy fighters Review: Hey, OK so your thinking "Hyper Dolls what the!" This is a great Anime for all fans of Sailor Moon, Tenchi, Pokemon, or anything. It's is really funny, but if you have kids under 10-13 I'd watch it first before leting them watch it! Nothing big, A bit of bad language, about 1 second of nudity(Sailor Moon rated), and situations they may not get.Other than that it's great! The alien girls called the "Hyper Dolls" are sent to earth by their very strange little comander to protect the Earth. They meet a guy that is the only one that has found out about their Ideity and his female friend (not Girl Friend) is trying to find out what's so weird about the two new girls Mue & Mica. Very hilarius I'd buy both part if I were you 'cause you'll regret it if you only buy one! It has 30 min. Anime (animation to the few that heavan forbid doesn't know He He;) and 10 mins. live action, ya you heard me right LIVE ACTION!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable But... Review: I enjoyed watching this, but I was left feeling as if there should be more. I want more episodes! I also heard that the tapes had some live action moments that were not included on the DVD. I guess there might have been licensing issues if this is true. Mew and Mica are here to protect the Earth. ...when they feel like it. You can usually find these two androids arguing about something when evil strikes. They're never prepared for the attacks, and they usually have to have their agruments broken up before they even notice something is wrong. Their commander communicates with them through pizzas. He kinda appears as a hologram on the pizza. I prefer the subtitled version. The voices chosen for the monsters in the dubbed version are somewhat annoying. The other voice actors in the dubbed version are good. Someday I might read the manga (comic) and see how they compare.
Rating: Summary: not what i expected...weak story Review: i think it wasnt that good sailormoon is a lot better than this though it had very silly scenes i liked mew the green haired the opening theme was not that bad the art was great the story line was not bad too i think other people will like it more...
Rating: Summary: Why watch this? Review: It got some funny ideas in the conversation, but that's just not enough to make it worthy to spend one hour watching this title. These characters is not fascinating and the image quality is less than average at best. The plot? does that ever exist in this title?
Rating: Summary: The laserdisc version has the large extras collection Review: Mew & Mica are nicely cynical parodies of the over-eager heroines from many other anime shows of yesteryear, including Kei and Yuri of the Dirty Pair fame. If you have seen a lot of anime and like parodies, then you may probably like this show. If you haven't, then this show might infuriate you as you wonder why the anti-heroines don't always behave logically or why they do the minimum necessary to get a job done. What disappointed me with the DVD version is that the Japanese laserdisc version (which I also have) had so many extras on it. I can't imagine why Pioneer didn't include the extras when they also had done the laserdisc version. It's not like they didn't have the footage available to them. Okay, what was missing? Well, what's not missing? The release was a bare-bones disc. On the laserdisc, there were live-action fan excerpts of scenes paralleling the show such as the guy and his anime-hating girlfriend in the car driving away from Mimizuman (giant worm). Also, you got to see vignette style scenes featuring the voice actresses such as the scene where they bought the giant pizza... Of course, you already know what happens with the pizza.... *smile* I really would have liked it if this footage had been included. Still, I liked this show, and appreciate that Pioneer had been experiementing with low-priced anime releases for a number of their titles.
Rating: Summary: WARNING: You may laugh your head off... Review: Mew & Mica are two super powered aliens sent to earth to defend it from ouside invaders, but end up fighting the mutated creations sent by Dr. Zaiclit. In their off time they pose as high school students, and the only one who knows their true identity is their male classmate, Akai. Then there is Akai's old female friend, Shoko, who dosen't know their secret but is beginning to suspect something is strange about the two. As for why she and everyone eles can't tell just by looking at them...well, I guess it's just like Superman and most super hero stories inspired by it, where you just have to suspend your disbelief and accept that everyone is fooled by the hero's rather transparent disquiese. Also, the dolls don't want anyone eles finding out about their identity, so they make the threat to Akai: "Don't tell anyone, or we'll twist your head off!" I know that probably makes them seem less than heroic, but maybe the author decided he wanted his heroines to have a dark edge to them. The animation is fair (I've seen much worse-it's better than Poke'mon, at least,) the music score is good, (in the dubbed version, the opening song is also sung in english,) and both the English and Japanese voice actors do a great job of potraying the characters. However, the story kind of drops you off in the middle, and about the only back story you see are some brief imigaes that flash by during the opening song, where we see the hyperdolls coming down to earth. Here is my advise: for anyone who watches this and wants a more complete version of the story, read the manga from Studio Ironcat.
