Description:

The high jinks and low jinks continue at Microgrand Academy: Truffle, who talks like James from Team Rocket in Pokémon, pursues Hinano, a supernatural being who's in love with Cacao. But Cacao and his friend Almond are interested only in food. This 1999 TV comedy is not particularly original: "Kitty-Kat Kalamity" and "Athletic Supporters" borrow heavily from the Ranma-1/2 episodes "You Really Do Hate Cats!" and "I Am a Man! Ranma's Going Back to China." Trouble Chocolate is no sillier than Ranma or Slayers, but the characters lack the well-defined personalities that give those series their enduring appeal. Recent tragedies have unfortunately overtaken the last episode on this disc "...And Called it Macaroni"--sending a character to shoot up a high school just isn't funny in the U.S. these days. (Unrated: suitable for age 13 and older: risqué humor, cartoon violence, brief nudity) --Charles Solomon
