Summary: pretty good
Review: Even though I like Cardcaptors, I think the dub is really stupid. They cut out half of everything, and now the story doesn't even make sense! Be like me, buy the sub!

Summary: English dub is [bad] ; French version better...?
Review: I know what you're already thinking by my bringing up the French version of Card Captor Sakura, but honestly, it plays a very important role, so sit and wait.

Nelvana and Kids WB decided to "join forces" when creating an English Adaptation of this show, and instead of dubbing each episode in a proper order, the kids that they interviewed (mostly males) decided they wanted Syaoran Li into the show right away! This doesn't work, as Li doesn't even enter until the 8th episode.

So, not only are the first seven episodes thrown aside (dubbed later on, some of them), the episodes are now completely out of order, making the existing plot now almost impossible to follow. Also, the music has been replaced, the new theme song is completely 'blorg', and the voices don't fit the characters at all. I love the Ocean Group and all, but...valley girl doesn't fit Sakura's description.

All right, I did mention the French dub in here. Quite frankly, it's excellent. The original theme song is there with replaced lyrics, there's original music, next to no cuts; the voices are fantastic! Sakura actually sounds like a sweet, cute child. What does this have to do with anything?

Nelvana dubbed it.

Two versions: English and French. Who gets stuck with the butchered one? The English speaking folk, while our anime French speaking friends in Quebec are being delighted by how well the show was handled.

What I don't understand is why the English version wasn't treated so well. It sickens me, along with any other anime fans.

Summary: Cardcaptors is okay...
Review: I first saw Cardcaptors on KidsWB, and I really liked it, but thought the plot very confusing at first. A few days later, I went online and looked it up and found out about Cardcaptor Sakura. I'm sorta okay with the dub, but I prefer the sub a lot more. The thing I hate most about the dub is how they cut out most hints of the different relationships. They also skipped many episodes.
The first episode shows Li Showron (or Li Shaoran in the sub) coming in and competing with Sakura to capture the Thunder card. This episode was originally the eighth episode of the sub. At first, you don't know what's happening because they don't slowly introduce the characters one by one.
The second episode is where time is repeating for Sakura and Li day after day. With the help of Li, they capture the Time card, which goes to Li.
The third episode on this DVD is when Sakura's 4th grade class goes to the beach. In a cave, everyone starts fading away, bit by bit, until Sakura and Li is left. Li starts disappearing, and Sakura captures the Erase card.
A bit of advice for you, if you want to see some really good anime, just buy the Cardcaptor Sakura DVD's instead.

Summary: Do yourself a favor and DON'T buy this...
Review: Cardcaptors has one thing going for it in my book: it lead me to Cardcaptor Sakura. Other than that, it's a piece of trash.

I could just sit back and let my fellow angry fans do the talking, but I'll have to put in my two cents. Cardcaptors is just another hacked-up dub brought in to cash on the Pokemon craze (and those corporate bigwigs need to GET A CLUE and stop bringing over shows for this reason), and it pales in comparison to Cardcaptor Sakura. The voices are fine, but the dialogue is down the drain. Tomoyo(excuse me, "Madison") sounds bratty and valley girlish, and Syaoran Li, who is my favorite anime character of all time, has been renamed "Li Showron", become overly mean and goes throught zero character development. Entire subplots are passed over, character relationships are shot, and Nelvana has molded a wonderfully cute and funny shoujo series into another Pokemon clone aimed at preadolescent boys. Give me a break. American kids aren't as stupid as everyone seems to think they are.

Please go buy the subtitled Cardcaptor Sakura and don't give Cardcaptors any attention at all.

Summary: And I thought Tenchi In Tokyo was a disaster!
Review: OK, I thought it was the end of anime when that garbage was aired, but what is the world coming to if your favorite anime gets ruined and most people just go along with it? This is just junk that Nelvana glued together in about 5 minutes! If you're looking for something to buy, then buy the subtitled version!
Stuff that's wrong:
-more then half of the episodes went into the trash
-This stuff was rated "G" when the origional was "13 and up"
-Names got messed up for no reason.(How did Yukito Tsukishiro become Julian Star?)
-Voices and dialog are a mess!(To~riii!)
-Story-lines were completely improvised!
-Songs were cut out and butchered(Catch you, Catch me).
-Every relationship went down the toilet!
-How did a shoujo anime become a boy show?

I guess I could just go on and on. How did sucha beautiful anime become a version of Pokemon? OK, OK, I understand it if some very unusual people actually like this, but what's the point if it isn't the story CLAMP origionally meant it to be? American dubbers have no respect for other countries...

I guess there isn't anything I can do, but I won't give Nelvana that extra dollar for this DVD and if you agree, take my example.
BUY PIONEER'S SUBTITLED VERSION!!!

Summary: If you hate cardcaptors
Review: If you hate cardcaptors why are you reviewing it. stick to the version you like. If you hate this version pretend it doesn't exist. I like this version better. Subtitled anime is boring. I like the original version to some degree. Cardcaptors is my first love and always.

Summary: Cardcaptors - Tests of Courage (Vol. 1)
Review: This butchered version of Cardcaptor Sakura is just pathetic! Apparently, Nelvanna, who did the North American dub, decided that no one will watch their anime unless it was marketed to boys (as in, a girl can't be the main character, it should be full of action) and all references to Japan removed! To do this, they had to totally edit the plot, and cut huge amounts of the show. Some of the episodes are a full 5 minutes shorter than the originals. They also had to change the characters' personalities. To make sure it was as full of action as possible, they did things like only showing a few of the episodes and splicing pieces of seperate episodes together. Another complaint I have is that the theme music was totally changed. "Catch You Catch Me" is one of my favorite songs, and they replaced it with some other inferior, short song. My advice is to just buy the uncut versions, and ignore the Cardcaptor videos.

Summary: 0 for cardcaptors, 5 for card captor sakura
Review: I first experinced cardcaptors on the WB. I thought it was the worst anime ever because of the theme song(my ears are still bleeding).I didn't even watch the show. It then took about another 6 months before I accidently watched the show. I thought the voice acting was god awful(and still think it is), but since there was nothing else on to watch i decided to avoid the theme song all together and sit through the horrid acting. I then realized that there was a lot more to this anime, why did Li blush like that at Sakura and then obcess about cards, what's up with Sakura and (Madison). All that time hating the anime because of the dub. I then started looking up info about it on the internet and realized that this was a great anime that was focused on the characters not the cards. I also learned that pioneer put out the uncut version of card captor sakura. I bought the uncut version and after that i promised to myself never to watch the WB version of the show(i'm still trying to get the voice acting out of my head) A lot of people say that Nelvana had no choice but to dub it like that and other b.s. Like japanese names aren't exceptible for the American audience and that the show dealt with issues American audiences could not handle. Americans on the contrary really don't care wheather they have japanese names. How would you like it if Goku was named Johnny Cool.

Anyway Cardcaptors is horrid and does not do the series justice at all. Nelvana gives no credit to the audience and just assumes that we are just going to believe that the series takes place in average Joe America Reedington Town or whatever and the series revolves around Li. The series name is Card Captor *SAKURA*. I mean look at the box cover on Vol 3. The focus is on Li, and Sakura looks like a side character.

While i consider myself an anime purist and prefer sub rather than dubbed. I'll watch a dub if it is done right (i.e. Cowboy Beboop). But Cardcaptors dub is just disgusting. There is just no excuse for this bad of a dub and for Nelvana trying to hide it's japanese roots and trying to change the focus from Sakura to Li. Also the fact that the characters only talk about cards when there is so much more underneath it. I hope Nelvana is listening. The characters voices sound like they were recorded in a garage. Sakura sounds like a brat. (Madison) sounds like a valley girl. And on top of that they sound like kids doing a high school play meaning they can't act. Thank god for Pioneer who put out the uncut version.

Please buy the uncut version stay away from this. Look up info on the net and see how many people agree with me. Oh and email hate mail to Nelvana. Give the japanese language a chance. But this only my opinion, if you are to closed minded to listen to japanese and don't want good story and only card captoring action then waste your money on this atrocity.(GOD THAT THEME SONG, UGH).NELVANA WHY, WHHHHYYYY?

Summary: Cardcaptors is Cool!!
Review: I like Cardcaptors. Some of the characters may have a name change from the original, but they are still the same. The voices of the characters are great. That's one of the reasons I buy this version. Another reason is to see the differences between the uncut Cardcaptor Sakura and Cardcaptors. Don't get me wrong, the uncut version is great, but I like to have a break from reading subtitles. I own both versions: Cardcaptors and Cardcaptor Sakura. The first episode is about Sakura meeting Li. Li helps Sakura capture the Thunder card. The 2nd episode is about Sakura, Li, and Kero reliving the same day over and over again. The 3rd episode is about Sakura's class having a field trip at the beach. Her classmates disappear one by one in the cave. Stop dissing Cardcaptors. If you don't like Cardcaptors, stick to the uncut version. If you like to compare the two versions or want see it as if it was a different show, then get Cardcaptors. If it wasn't for Cardcaptors, I would not have seen Cardcaptor Sakura.
