The Devil Lady (a.k.a. The Devilman Lady, 1998), was a TV reworking of creator Go Nagai's Devilman (1972). Jun Fudou is a successful but shy model in Tokyo with a problem: she possesses the "beast gene" that causes her to turn into a ravening demon. She's recruited by hardboiled Lan Asuka of Human Alliance, a quasi-military unit dedicated to protecting humanity from "beast monsters"--humans who also possess the terrible gene but are unable to overcome its influence. In the original Devilman, Akira had to meld with the monsters he fought and agonized over it; Jun becomes a monster. Although she fusses about working for Asuka, Jun is soon tearing apart other demons with savage relish in an extended gorefest, punctuated by scenes of her friendship with the whiny Kazumi.
