Summary: Hilarious and entertaining
Review: I'm very pleased I bought this dvd (and the other 5), because this is very slick and well-done piece of animation.
I won't re-cap the plot/characters, read the other reviews if you want to know about that. Instead I'll focus on the dvd
itself.

The transfer to a digital medium is very well done (as it should be for such a relatively young series) and I did not see any glaring artifacts/shimmerings and such. The sound is very good and has a lot of 'oomph' to it, especially if you have a decent sound-set like me. (I really like the soundtrack for this series, it's very good.)
The menu's are a bit bland, but then again I never cared much for menus anyway. They are functional at least.
The extras include trailers for some other ADV productions, text-less opening/ending, characters bios (some on each dvd) and some translation notes (at least on this first disc).

One bad (or good) thing is that ADV has seen fit to translate on-screen text to english and replace the actual japanese text with english, yet they don't do this everywhere. Although the overlays used to this are very good (no shimmering like _some_ dvds have), I'd have preferred the original japanese with subtitles.

I haven't listened to the dub, so I don't know how well it stacks up against the original japanese voice-actors, who do a wonderful job.

Finally I can only say this: You'll either hate or love Nadesico for it's a very slick spoof of a host of genres.

Go Gekiganger!

Summary: Prepare to be amazed
Review: An amazingly well-crafted mixture of straight up giant robot/alien fighting action and anime-targeting comedy. I bought the dub, which has an excellent group of characters, and the first video even comes with a creditless opening/closing at the very end as an extra. A wonderful series, recommended to all comedy fans. Things only get better from here!

Summary: Gai Super-Upper
Review: .....SPOILER ALERT.....

First off, from what I have seen so far of this series, I can make some statements about it.

-First, this is a very comical series that pokes fun at just about every "Giant Mech" anime out there, from Gundam, to Evangelion.
-Second, this series has to cover a lot of ground in this first DVD so, it tends to move at a very fast pace and newer anime fans may get disoriented and not get all the jokes because of the speed that the plot develops.
-Third, Because of the fast pace, the character developement is kind of weak, this series only focuses on a few of the "main" characters, while the large "supporting" cast hardly gets any depth and the viewer is often left to make assumptions about their actions.
-Fourth, I feel that this DVD is best enjoyed by anime veterans because they can relate to Gekigengar better than newer anime fans.

Now, on to my personal feelings about this DVD.
I have to admit, when I first started watching this show, I was a bit skeptical, I didnt really like Yurika, and Akito was the typical Spike Spencer character, a pilot who didnt want to pilot for "personal" reasons. It was a bad start, then it all changed the minute I heard the arrogant and egotistical voice of Gai Daigoghi. When Gai was introduced I immediately felt better and I was instantly hooked. Gai,(voiced superbly by Brett Weaver) is my favorite character in the show and if he wasn't in it, then I would have never continued watching the show.
Sounds ok, right? Wrong, just as I am comfortable with the show, at the end of the third episode, they did the unthinkable, they killed off Gai. I was speechless, my favorite character in the show was just killed off right before my eyes. To say that I was mad would be an understatement.
Then to add insult to injury, in the fourth episode, the show introduces 3 new pilots to the already overcrowded cast.Granted that Ryoko is a cool pilot, the other 2 are just plain annoying.
With Gai's absence I turned to Akito, and surprisingly he starts acting better and is hooked on Gekigengar, just like Gai.
Hopefully he will continue to keep the memory of Gai alive, but regardless, i will finish this series and hopefully the whole Akito/Yurika thing will be solved and they wont have to waste anymore episodes trying to resolve this issue.
In closing this anime is very enjoyable ,but dont get attached to anyone in particular, or you just may be disappointed.

Review: I got this DVD not long ago and I LOVED it. My best friend LOVED it.... and guess what? Even my self-confessed anime-hater friend LOVED it!!! We were on the floor in fits of laughter... the characters have amazingly crazy personalities and relationships... and it's a mecha anime as well! How crazy is that? A mecha comedy anime?
Well.... it's definately worth it... and I'm definately going to buy the rest off the DVD's as soon as I can get my hands on the money!!! ^-^

Summary: My opinion
Review: Martian Successor Nadesico was an ok film, but all in all a bit of a let down. Yes the animation was quite nice ansd yes they did do a great job on the voices. But, yes the movie was un-creative and yes it did get a little repetetive. Each character had an extreme personality trait (except June). Wether they were super happy or extremely negative everyones attitude pulled me away from this movie instead of into it. The whole mars idea was a little creative but the whole spce ship and mechas idea is a total repeat. After a while i forgot they're whole purpose of going to Mars. Anyway i want this review to be short so I'll wrap it up here. This movie displays less then tenchi muyo humor and less of a space like feel then outlaw star or cowboy beebop. I would recommend buying this movie if you are either easily entertained or easily exciteable. If your not then I would suggest staying away from this movie and renting a good tenchi or DBZ.

Summary: The Best Anime Show!
Review: A couple of months ago I went to the store, with one of my friends and he told me to get Martian Successor Nadesico! I didn't though! But then I ended up going back a few weeks later and got it! What was I thinking not buying it the first time! This is by far the best anime show ever, it even says on the back on the DVD thing, voted best Anime show or whatever! Believe me, if you like anime you'll LOVE this. I mean, I only had to show one of my friends before he fell in Love with it! I mean thats all he talks about, it's actually getting annoying now! Only one of my friends didn't like it, but he says it's ok! But the thing is... Everyone, has really extended personality's or something, he also said that all the character's are either hyper, crazy, scary, or losers! But all the characters are cool! Ruri's the best! But what's so cool about this is that it has so many genres, it's a action, comedy, drama, and other stuff! I seriously suggest that you check it out!

Summary: Over The Top
Review: I won't lie to you. Nadeisco is a funny show for female and male teenagers. And this DVD continues in that direction.

Content: A
Animation: B+
Music: A
English Version: A
Japanese Version: A
Humor: A

Unlike the other discs, this one sacrifices the extras for an extra episode. To some this, this is an upset, but to most, it's a bonus. This DVD starts out with a killer episode involving mecha model fun between Hiukaru and Uri-pea while at the same time displaying Akito's determination for the one who killed Gai. We even get to see Uri-pea's Aesteva-X (or X-Aesty or something like that). It does look pretty cool even it does get blown out of combat pretty quick.

Taking a time out from the humor, Ruri searches for the whereabouts of where she was born and who she was. It was a pretty cool episode, but sadly, the humor still carries the torch on this disc. Featuring various humoristic surprises such as a Beauty Contest for the next captain Nadesico. What was probably the best episode is the last one which has the crew deal with ghosts, Jovians invading the Nadesico and memory Mahjong tiles. Don't worry, you'll understand it when you see it.

Overall, the dub does a pretty good job with such famous lines as:
Megumi: You know, I use to be a voice actress.
Soldier: Weren't you in Tentacle Love Godess?
Megumi: *nods*

Sometimes the dub changes lines to make them more understandable for an American audiance. For instance, when Ryoko blows up a Jovian she says in Japanese "Got ya" with Izumi replying "Gotcha? Got cha-cha?" referring to the classic Japanese anime "Gatchaman". While in the dub, Ryoko says "Got him" with Izumi replying "Got him? Isn't that where Batman lives?". Still, the dub makes me laugh everytime. The only part on this disc where the dub doesn't seem to work is in the Beauty Contest episode where in the dub all the girls sing in Japanese with no subtitles. I'm glad I have optional translation subtitles on the DVD instead of the VHS version.

Pure and simple, this is an anime fan's anime. And if your an anime fan, there is no reason not to watch this. With nurses, ghosts, princesses, mecha maniacs and Gekigenger 3 (which is an obvious incantation of Go Nagai's Getter Robo), how can you complain?

Summary: Nadesico is cool
Review: Wow. The series Martian Successor Nadesico is a hillarious series with gimmicks and take-offs around every bend on the incredible ride called Nadesico. In this DVD, there are five action-packed episodes instead of the normal four. For the math-people, that is 25% more fun! This is one of the best anime series ever, and should never be show on Cartoon Network or Kids WB because they would screw this masterpiece up. So iof you are just a person who likes reading reviews, but never buys the actual product, buy Nadesico and see the light! But if you just like throwing money around, buy it anyway!
