Summary: Gundam the movie: Well...hmm...w
Review: Gundam the movie is what started the whole Saga. Back then, when there were very little computer graphics, amd it was hard to make a science fiction like this. Sure, Star Wars was great. but that's the US. In Japan where they don't have the multi trillion budget, the only way to create a effective Sci-fi series that isn't corny and unrealistic is to animate it. But even then the animation I thought was stil jerky, the characters were old fashioned and something just wasn't right. In fact after the first hour I fast fowarded through the second hour because it was getting so slow. But something about it made me wanna watch it again. I didn't want to re-sell it suddenly and I decided to have a second viewing without fastforwarding it this time. This movie, isn't super. But the plot is. The drawback is the "at times poor" and old fashioned animation. The fact is that even though it may be slow at times, for the most part it does what it does good though it could be better. FOR EVERY GUNDAM FAN I say buy this because it's worth it. But it's up to you if you want to buy the second and third movie. If you don't know what Gundam is, then frankly I recomend Gundam 0080,0083, because those are good without excuse, and its hard to love this unless you're a Japanese Gundma fan, or a dedicated non-Japanese fan. Just keep in mind that this was something new to the world, just like Star WArs was. Relatively speaking Gundam has no match with Star Wars budget wise and quality wise. But I hope all of you fans appreciate the drama and effort put behind this series that has been around for over 2 decades already, and showing no sign of stopping. As for the story summary.....please read other reviews....(^^; because I did my best to reflect my opinion without leaning over to one side

Summary: uggh...
Review: I dont know where to start, the characters were boring, the animation stale, and absolutly no action. I do have sympathy, this was the first ever movie and it obviously isn't going to be great but i have seen more action in a block of wood (coincedentaly, the gundam does look like a block of wood). My sugestion is to look into later gundam series.

Summary: Good intro into Gundam
Review: I had to review when I saw that this has gotten some negative reviews. For shame, people, for shame.

Anyway, this is the original Mobile Suit Gundam; well, condensed into a 7 hour movie trilogy anyway. I'm going to be honest and say that sitting down and watching this for 7 hours does get pretty long, even for a diehard Gundam fan like myself. However, the animation is crisp and the voice actors are the original Japanese, as opposed to the cheap TV series and its even cheaper dub. So, whenever I want to watch a scene from MSG that's in the movies, I choose that over the TV series.

Anyway, this anime has it all: war, politics, battles, romance, drama, even comedy. I am a teenage girl who by all rights should love Wing, but instead loves MSG. The characters are incredible; well-developed and totally realistic. And may I say that MSG's romances tend to be subtle, but they are simply awesome.

This was my first taste of the original Gundam, and after watching it I could not understand why people would say that it's good, but only a small taste of it. And after watching the TV series, I realized how right they were. Honestly, I enjoyed the TV series so much, and it covers a lot more than the movie does. So, if you want to be "hardcore" UC Gundam, I recommend watching the TV series. Try and stomach the dub.

But if you just want a nice amount of background information or even just a glimpse of what UC Gundam has to offer, this is an excellent source to tap. The animation may be from the 70's, but the story is a masterpiece.

Summary: Masterpiece of Japanese Robot Anime
Review: I watched the Gundam TV show 20 years ago and now I watch it again with my kids. After 20 years this is still a masterpiece which departed from a usual robot anime for kids. If you still think anime is a kid stuff, watch this movie and you will know how wrong you are.

Summary: Gundam: Militarized Spaced Adventure!
Review: Mobile Suit Gundam has caused a sensation almost as big as Star Wars in Japan and counts on a sizeable following in the US! The show takes the concept of the japanese giant robot show and expands it into the realm of militarized space opera. The result is a science fiction film which keeps your blood racing with a tense plot and superb battle sequences and a great soundtrack.

In short, the movie is about the space adventures of a group of under-aged (15 to 22 year old) space crew of the battleship White Base. Put under these conditions by the extraordinary circumstance of all-out war, not all are willing volunteers. Some are a sort of psychic mutation called a New Type, which possess incredible hand-eye coordination and a sort of oracle-like intuition, which makes them formidable battle pilots. It is because of this quality that the under-aged White Base crew manage to survive!

The enemy are a renegade Earth colony called Zeon, which starts the war by attacking the Earth and killing off half the population. But the Earth rallies, and with secret weapons like the White Base and the Gundam battle robot, start to bring the war back to Zeon orbit.

Not missing is a sense of drama and tragedy as the personal lives of the White Base mariners are torn asunder, particularly Amuro Ray, involuntary recruit and master pilot of the Gundam, who has more enemy blood on his hands than he would like to acknowledge.

Surprisingly, the Zeon (enemy) is also represented with realism and drama. Char Aznable is the young enemy captain with divided loyalties. Ranba Ral, the dutiful soldier, and a host of other (not dishonorable) Zeons which must do battle with the White Base battleship by way of duty and honor.

If you have a weakness for militarized science fiction (like Star Wars and Battlecruiser Yamato) you will enjoy Gundam. Get the film that started the whole Gundam phenomenon: Gundam-I, the movie!

Summary: A Classic
Review: The Mobile Suit Gundam series began airing in Japan in 1979, and ran for 43 episodes, until it's cancellation. However, as reruns were shown, the poularity of the series rapidly grew, and to immortalize the great series, it was crammed together into 3 over 2-and-a-half hour long theatrically released films. Each film details the most important parts of the series, using a combination of animation from the series and new animation made specifically for the film. The 3 movies were titled, "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Movie; Mobile Suit Gundam: The Movie 2, Soldiers of Sorrow; and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Movie 3, Encounters in Space." And now, about 20 years later, the movies that started it all have been released in America. This is the first movie in the trilogy, and, in my opinion, is not quite as good as movies 2 and 3, which is why I gave it 4 stars. But, it is still a deep and enthralling movie. The animation is from the very early 80's, but if you can get past the dated look, there is a great story about the beginning of the Gundam legacy that has lasted for over 20 years in Japan underneath. For all you New Mobile Report Gundam Wing fans out there, this series takes place in the U.C.(Universal Century) Timeline, so there's no relation to Gundam Wing other than the title "Gundam." It details the story of Amuro Ray, a young boy who, by a twist of fate, becomes the pilot of the Earth Federation's top weapon in the One Year War against the Duchy of Zeon, the RX-78-2 Gundam. A great buy for Mecha fans, or Anime fans in general. Note: The original Mobile Suit Gundam series, which this movie is made from, will begin airing on Cartoon Network's Toonami sometime in the not to distant future, so if you don't want to spoil the surprise, then don't buy these tapes. But I strongly recommend you do, for there's plenty of new animation and new plot twists in these movies to make it a whole new experience. A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BUY.
