Summary: This series is actually worth your time
Review: If you like anime, you'll love Escaflowne. Escaflowne has everything you could ever want from a series: Mecha, romance, swordfighting and full-scale warfare.

I saw a few episodes taped from Japanese TV a few years ago, and was instantly hooked. When the DVD's were released my money left my pocket so fast, there were skidmarks all over my bank statements ;-)

The animation, though not perfect, is still very, very good. Escaflowne was produced on an enormous budget - for a TV series, that is - and you can see where all that money went.

The story is about Hitomi Kanzaki, a japanese high-school girl, with some latent psychic abilities (she reads tarot cards) who gets magically transported to and alternate world named Gaia, where all is not well. She almost immediately finds herself in the middle of things, as the ambitious empire of Zaibach embarks on it's mission of conquest, starting with the Kingdom of Fanelia, the place Hitomi was transported to. Not only that, but being on Gaia seems to bring out her psychic abilities, and she starts seeing terrible visions of the future.

What follows is 26 episodes full of travels, fights, love and betrayal. Anyone familiar with the kind of story-telling found in games like the Final Fantasy series, will feel very much at home here.

I can really just think of one flaw, if you can even call it that. Hitomi's character can get on people's nerves. She cries a lot, seems to fall in love with every tall handsome stranger she meets, and makes the same mistakes over and over again. *However* people have to keep in mind that after all, she is just a young schoolgirl, and i found her quite (stereo)typical of a young japanese girl of her age. And furthermore, young teenage girls were the target audience for the producers of Esca.

And don't worry, towards the end, even Hitomi herself realises that she has been going about things the wrong way all the time, and that she has some serious growing up to do...

So if you can look past the sappy romance scenes that come along every once in a while, you'll find that Escaflowne is a series that is actually worth the time you spend watching it.

Summary: Will draw you in and never let go.
Review: I love this series so much. I own the VHS box set and am slowly starting to collect the DVD's.

The animation is breathtaking, lush, unique, and simply wonderful to behold. The music, well, what can I say about Yoko Kanno's soundtracks that has not already been said? The plotline, characters, conflicts, and love triangles are magnificent.

There is no describing or explaining this series. It must be seen to be understood, and with every repeated viewing, I am as mesmerized as before. Sure, some of the details get a little cloudy, and you may be left scratching your head at some things, but the entire work is so superb, the "flaws" really don't detract from the whole.

A MUST SEE for any anime fan.

Summary: THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, POWERFUL, AND MAGICAL ANIME I HAVE SEEN!
Review: I have always been wary of anime, because a lot of it has porn or gore, but this particular TV series has comepletely blown me away! You can take a sterotyping 40-year-old, set in their ways about anime, and watch them view every episode, utterly devoted. What makes this so good? Well, the plot is the best I have ever seen! It has many twists and surprises which you never see coming. And whether you are a genius or not, this plot will make you think constantly! A true web, so intricately bound into a masterpiece! You also have the numerous fighting scenes with the swords (Katanas) and 'other'. The characters are wonderfully depicted! I have fallen in love with the main character, and everyone has a particular role that, without one, the show would not be the same. The young, handsom King who has mysterious powers, the gallent knight, the young heroin, (a track star), dragons, action, destiny, atlantis, this has it all! And the music... Here's where Escaflowne REALLY stands out! This show contains beautifully orchestrated melodies, strong, soft, enticing, mysterious... I also recommend the soundtracks! I will not rest before I get my hands on the Escaflowne soundtracks, VHS', Movie, and wallscrolls! (And by the way, the animation is beautiful, not choppy, and detailed.) Worth everything and more to buy!!

Summary: Escaflowne: Anime Review
Review: The Vision of Escaflowne contains some of Japan's best animation. The plotline is logical, yet interesting to mature young adults. Following Van Fanel and his companions through this deep and mysterious plot line makes you want to watch more.

Summary: Best Anime I've Ever Seen!
Review: I really LOVE this series. It includes references to mythology and history. It has spiritual depth. This anime is not a childrens anime and the Fox version shouldn't even be watched. It's too complex of a story for children and it's also very violent. If you want to see it you MUST get the entire series. But it's well worth it.

This anime is about a young Japanese girl who is clairvoyant. She mysteriously gets beamed to an alternate world where you can see the Earth in the sky. She has to live with the inhabitants of this world where she is considered a forgiener from the cursed place. At first all she wants is to get home, then as she makes friends and love interests with the people she meets and wants to help them defeat the evil leader of their rival country. As it turns out she has more connection to the leader than she knows, and the secret to her mysterious powers are reveiled!

Without giving away too much, this anime also includes cat girls, mecha (giant robot suits), dragons, and a mad scientist. I know you will enjoy this anime.

Summary: Escaflowne
Review: I love this whole series, well what I have seen so far.. I've gotten half way through and I love it! This is a real medieval type of series, real chivalry, and kingdoms burning to the ground at the fate of some real evil bad guys.. Guymelefs are the mechas they use to defend themselves. One of these guymelefs, is the Escaflowne, an Ispano guymelef. Van Fanel is the pilot, and he is bonded to Escaflowne by blood pact. If you like dragons and knights in shining mecha, you will love Escaflowne.

Summary: Try it, you'll like it!
Review: I first got my intro to Escaflowne when it was aired on Fox last year. Unfortunately, they stopped after 5 or 6 episodes, and it left me wanting more. Unlike western animated series, it is a continuing story, they don't resolve all their problems in one episode. It is a thrilling action-packed romantic saga, in the best of Japanese tradition. I liked it for the story, my boyfriend loves the action and the Mecha. Try the first DVD, I guarantee it won't be the last one you buy.
