Rating: Summary: It just keeps getting worse. Review: And that's not a bad thing. My word, if anyone who has watched this series and still says that it will be on Cartoon Network's Toonami, must be drug out into the street and shot. If you are expecting this to be as tame as Tenchi Muyo! (Which isn't all that tame.) Don't. This goes far beyond Tenchi Muyo! They have a whole episode with Seina shopping for lude stuff from lingerie to sex toys for NB. Needless to say not for kids. No, it's not hentai; it's just really, really funny. Also, in these episodes is the first appearance of a major villain. The downside, the extra's. At lease this one has all new character biographies. But the same music videos. And of course Funi previews.

Rating: Summary: Pirates, pirates and more pirates... Review: The Galaxy Police Academy likes to train cadets with as much on-the-job training as they can. So after Seina has completed his first stage of body enhancement he, with the rest of the class, is sent off on a maiden voyage. Delivering packages. With Seiryo as the Captain, who needs to worry? Well, just about everybody - but the pirates. When Seina, in the next episode, ends up on a Galaxy Police warship in the middle of a battle, he learns a few things about himself and Kiriko that scares him. The thing is, bad luck or not, he has become a thorn in the Pirate Guild's side and they decide to send Ryoko, no, not THAT Ryoko, the other Ryoko, after him. It seems she has an insider in the Academy. Somebody CLOSE to Seina. I enjoyed these episodes, even if there was only three of them. Lots of action, plot twists, mature themes. In the last episode Seina has to go shopping for NB! Of course, the girls want to know why he is going into so many weird places. And all this while the viewer knows somebody among them is after him! I had to give this DVD five points just for that alone. Normal amount of extras. Get it used if you can.

Rating: Summary: Entertaining, but barely Review: This DVD contains episodes 9-11 (for the best in detailed episode guides, check out Tenchi Muyo!: Another Universe at http://tmau.fateback.com). It is a distinct improvement over the over-the-top lewdness of the second volume because it gets back to a real story in space, but it still contains way too many cheap sex jokes. The quality of the artwork has slid even further; character and background design and animation are crude and cheap-looking. Even though this is definitely not a kids' show, it's not well-enough done to qualify as a serious adults' show. It's too silly, juvenile, and unbelievable while being fairly lewd in places (again, though not as much so as volume 2).
The characters are still the best thing in the show. Seina's befuddled earnestness, the interesting out-of-this-world setting, the growing complexity of the pirate culture and characters, and the inexplicable devotion of a group of brilliant, powerful, and sometimes deadly women to a game but immature and klutzy earth teen keeps things lively. It's still fun to watch, but it could have definitely been done better. Also, check out track two of the English subtitles; it's a more literal translation from the Japanese than the dub, and sometimes the differences between the translations are huge. You have to wonder why Funimation made so many nonsensical changes when writing the dub.
