Rating: Summary: good stuff Review: Unlike its sequile DragonBall z DragonBall has realistic fight scenes and the comical innocence of Goku. Also Goku is not an alien yet he is just the Monkey King. Based on a classic Chinese legend DragonBall is one of the best action anime serice. With battles that don't take forever, no flashy energy attacks that could cause convulsions and five minutes don't last ten episodes. DragonBall is truely GOOD STUFF.
Rating: Summary: grossly depressing Review: I bought this DVD expecting to see what I was expecting, the original version of the cartoon, I was dissapointed, what I found was a sadly done effort to entertain young people. With its poorly butchered story "saber of light?" and the shameful plugs to cover the nudity, "my,my look at the moving stool!". I was saddened, there was not even a selection to see the unedited uncut version with subtitles, shame on FUNi for putting us through this debacle of depravity, if you are a long time DBZ fan, do not get this, especially if you have ever seen any of the original material of either series.
Rating: Summary: I expected better Review: This DVD was not quite what I had in mind for Dragonball. There was no Japanese audio subtitled in english which disapointed me and there were little things that were stupid like the dragon radar for instance, they call it a "bleaper". All in all this Dvd was no where near the quality of the other DVDs after english episode 53 (DBZ) but don't get me wrong I love Dragonball /Z/GT.
Rating: Summary: I thought this was an ok Dragonball Review: Ok I will admit I am 13, and started watching the later sagas of DBZ instead of most people who watched the first series and then the beginings of DBZ. So I bought this set to watch to sort of fill me in on what happened during Dragonball (the flash backs in DBZ dont tell much). First of all until I got it home and watched it I had no idea that it was edited, I ould have preferred unedited but I said ok so what it is edited. I watched it and found that it wasn't as funny as DBZ was, I am not much for toilet humor and the funniest part was the part where Bulma gives Goku a bath and then Goku walks in on Bulma while she is taking a bath in episode 1. Sence I have purchased this set I have only watched it once, maybe a few episodes twice. All in all, I hated it and do recomend it for younger kids who like the "fart" and "poop" jokes. For the 12+ catagory just steer clear.
Rating: Summary: Good, but wish they were unedited Review: I bought this collection of Dragonball for my husband. As we watched them I really got into the story myself. However, now that our collection has grown to include unedited DragonBall, I must say that I wish this DVD was available unedited. I've seen the unedited versions since then and really feel like these are missing so much of the humor of Dragonball. However, this version is appropriate for kids and still maintains the sweet and funny quality of the series. I'd highly recommend this and any other Dragonball.
Rating: Summary: Poor production Review: The producers of this set managed to mess up a great story line. Even though the the key words original and uncut were used to desribe the video it is not. A lot of the really good scenes have been edited.
Rating: Summary: If you like Dragonball, don't buy edited releases like this! Review: If you want to get a chance to see Dragonball and DB Z and DB GT in a totally unedited, subtitled version on DVD soon or later in the US.. then you should avoid buying any edited/censored/cut version like this one ! Complain with the producers of this stupid editing and ask them to release the real, original, unedited Dragon Ball ! It's a shame to see this wonderful serie in any censored version!
Rating: Summary: good for a beginner to dragonball universw Review: with a couple of episodes missing from the original japanese first season, this is a average to alright dvd set, but it is the first series that actually introduces american fans to Goku and the gang. Not having the missing episodes, and being heavily edited for tv takes a lot out of this set though, because the fans and newcomers don't get to see how simple and funny these characters were truly meant to be. But i would still recommend to a long time dragonball z fan r beginner that wants to know where the story began from
Rating: Summary: Great Buy if you don't mind the editing Review: This dvd covers the first 13 episodes of Dragon Ball. It is very funny and begins the buildup of the characters for Dragon Ball-Z later on. I enjoyed these episodes, but was disappointed that an unedited version was not available. There are many funny jokes that are cut out, to make this appropriate for very young viewers. As of yet Funimation and Pinoneer still do not get it that Dragon Ball and the later series were not intended for just little kids. There editing has destroyed the humor Akira Toriyama originally intended. The English dubbing is pretty good though, with some of the voices that occur later on in Dragon Ball Z. I only wish that they could have made an unedited version, because the best of this dvd is cut out.
Rating: Summary: Five and below Review: I've been a fan of the series for a while and I bought this set knowing that SOME things would be edited or cut but was completely unprepared for what I found. Edited over body parts (fine), rearranged scenes (#$%*!!), and dialogue rewritten to the point that jokes and even entire storylines were lost. Most of the humor and character development has been totally lost. If you're buying this as an upgrade from Barney videos for your son or daughter, fine, but anyone preteens or above are going to be very disapointed.
