The ghouls controlled by the primordial demon Noo are wreaking havoc in human space, enslaving men through fear: Captain Herlock alone defies their webs of terror. Through the machinations of the Noo, Earth is simultaneously in its orbit and hurtling toward Yader, the area of space where Daiba's father was killed. If the planet strikes the Gate of Yader, it will free Noo, who will then terrorize all living things. A mysterious female entity, one of the Descendants of the Twisted Rope, explains the situation to Herlock and Daiba, and pleads for their help. Herlock dismisses her request, insisting he leads his life as he chooses. His apparent indifference to this threat may cast Herlock in an unsympathetic light, but Leiji Matsumoto's daring space pirate undoubtedly has a plan up his skull-and-crossbones emblazoned sleeve.
