Summary: WOW...One of anime's best kept secrets!
Review: I LOVE this movie! I initially noticed it at Blockbuster one time and vowed to return to satisfy my curiosity. Almost every return trip to Blockbuster it was checked out. SO then I KNEW it had to have been good! I finally gained it in my possession and was utterly impressed by the animation, characters and plots. If you enjoy films such as Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D and Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, take a chance and pick up this gem, you will not be disappointed.

Summary: Filled with mystery....
Review: I really love physiological thrillers and anime especially so its not surprising that I love this, or that this started my love for this area of anime.
What is surprising is how much I can watch this and:
1) Never get tired of it
2) Find something new each time
3) Hate the Daughter episode more and love all the others more each time I see them
I can't wait for the manga to be released on June 16th of 2003 (which this is based on).

Summary: I found something I desired...
Review: I've seen quite a bit of anime but I can say without a doubt this is some of the best I've seen. It's the perfect combination of creepiness and humor. I would suggest the DVD instead of the 2 videos simply because you can choose to watch it either in English or in Japanese and it's definatly worth seeing in Japanese even if just to watch D shriek with delight over his various sweets he's given over the course of the 4 episodes. The music's great, the voices are wonderful, and the animation is top-notch so if you're an anime fan I would suggest Petshop of Horrors.

Summary: And now for something completely different...
Review: If there's one anime series that is good at introducing people to Japanese animation, it is this one. In contrast to other anime, Pet Shop of Horrors is very episodic, making it easy to watch one and come back later to watch another. The animation is one of the main things I found lacking - as there are several scenes where little moves - but it does not hamper the enjoyment of watching Count D (arguably one of the most original and mysterious characters in manga) move! ^_^ This is a series which you must buy the DVD, because although I thought the dub was atrocious (with the exception of Leon's voice actor, who really fit) there is an absolutely hilarious Commentary track that you must watch. Other than that the DVD is pretty skimpy on extras, but that commentary makes up for it.

I'm going to be redundant and tell you yet again that the manga is leaps and bounds better than this, mostly for the reason that there is more humor and greater character development as to what Count D is and the way he interacts with Leon. The animation doesn't really offer any insight into D's past or future - which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Summary: Superb Anime is Difficult to Find
Review: Petshop of Horrors is certainly one of them. I watched it in Japanese, English, and with the Voice Overs, then watched the deleted material without getting bored at all. Count D is so beautiful it's hard to get bored staring at him. The plots themselves each have little twists, and isn't quite the average 'horror' anime. The horror isn't presented by showing the most gruesome acts possible. Instead, it leaves the 'door open' there. When you don't know what it is you're fleeing from it's all the more terrifying, and that's what Petshop of Horrors does.
Leon is wonderful and plays right into the story too. Especially in the third episode, where Count D very openly taunts him by telling him he should crush a bird and eat its bones because his irritation must be due to lack of nutrition.
Every bit of the show is aesthetically pleasing, a lot of work was put into the animation. Inricate designs are on most everything, and if something has smoke rising out of it the smoke will dance in perfect swirls.
If you're the type that enjoyed Vampire Princess Miyu, you might find yourself loving this anime even more (though I love Larva too).

Summary: Right up there with Vampire Hunter D
Review: This anime is kinda creepy. The four stories were very well thought out, my favorite being Despair. The animation was very well done, and the dubbing was good. The overall show has a great quality to it, like most other anime I've seen by urban vision (such as Vampire Hunter D, Bloodlust). Unfortunatly, there was only one DVD. Hopefully, they'll make more!

Summary: Excelent piece of animation
Review: This anime is one of the best I have seen in a while. It is edgy and dark, with pleasing sequences and a very good soundtrack. Over all the best part of it is the way the different stories are linked together, since that is lacking in many other anime films. One of the few drawbacks I found was in the voice characterization in English, which for many characters was horrible. Fortunately, the voice actor who plays the Count (sort of the main character) is great! even the voice sounds like the original japanese. If we need to make a comparison, I would say they are like Twilight Zone episodes, only gorier in some cases, so if you like suspense and good animation, you should definately buy this.

Summary: Very good lessons to be learned
Review: This DVD contains 4 different episodes. All 4 episodes deal with the weaknesses and temptations we all of go through - or could go through. Excellently written with an eye for perfection.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent and Suprising
Review: This DVD features all four episodes of the Pet Shop of Horrors series. I would say that this is wrongfully named. The horror doesn't come from the pet shop, but the weaknesses of the human owners. The 3rd and 4th episodes actually have a sweet twist at the end.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Tales from the Crypt anyone?
Review: This movie is about a cross-dressing pet shop owner with very unique animals with a bizarre tales of love, tragic, and horror. Stories are very original..to some extent and its an animation version of "Tales from the crypt" or "The Twilight zone."

Pet Shop of Horrors gives you something to think about. our moral values, honesty, and love for greed and it's enough to keep you interested 'till the end.. but not enough for you to go "WOW.. best anime ever!!"...It would've made an excellent short story novel!!
