Rating: Summary: I just can't bring myself to call eva imperfect... Review: This DVD is of course perfect, by default, because Evangelion is nothing but perfection. However in spite of this it could have used some more features, and I would have liked to not see the screen wobble. But nothing serious has changed, it is still the unbridled, and masterful anime that we all know and love, but now its not so damned expensive. Buy it, primarily because your VCR will be obsolete in a year and then what will you watch eva on?
Rating: Summary: The Most Dangerous Ever Review: Neon Genesis is a phenomena waiting to happen. The plot turns from entertaining to gripping as the series progresses. The translation and voice acting are dead on as well, on top of some of the best Japanese animation ever to grace our shores. Give this series a shot and you will not be disappointed! If you've never gotten into anime, I assure you this is the most convincing reason to do so.
Rating: Summary: A good description on human nature Review: Animation/ Cartoon gives an idea of childish to people. The story of Evanglion gives us a totally different idea. I don't think kids can understand the philosophy of it. Hideaki does truely have insights in human nature and what the world is. From the story, you will learn, appreciate and forgive. Encouragment will be found as well. This story is absolutely classic of Japanese animation.
Rating: Summary: Please rush Volume 2!!!! Review: This is probably one of the greatest animes put onto DVD I have ever seen. The animation quality is excellent!!! Plus the actors chosen for the dubbed version fit the bill with scary perfection. I have one minor complaint that I hope they fix in volume 2: the chapters for each episode don't allow you to immediately skip the intro, but this is a trivial problem. Even if you have all 13 on VHS, buy this, it's worth it...
Rating: Summary: Wonderful series, but the DVD gives reason to grumble Review: Okay, Neon Genesis Evangelion is, of course, the best Anime, the best show, one of the best pieces of art, ever created, and this DVD is wonderful because it contains 4 episodes as opposed to the normal 2 on VHS for the same price... and on the DVD you can laugh and watch it in English or french or spanish (for those of you who watch Eva or any other anime dubbed, shame on you).... However, something that pissed me off and will probably leave other fans slighly steamed is the fact that the DVD version changes some of the frames that have words written in Japanese and digitally removes the Japanese versions and puts English versions of the frame in instead of just translating it under the Japanese like the VHS version. For instance, the chore sheet that Shinji and Misato are creating in the second episode is in English... (such is the case with a lot of frames). It didn't seem like such a big deal when I heard about it, but after I have seen it, it really pisses me off. But of course it does not ruin the DVD at all because the series is so awesome, it just takes away a little bit of the authenticity.
Rating: Summary: Featureless and Stunned Review: I don't care how much you guys complain, the series in the same and intact. This is Evangelion. The only problem is that there are no good special features.
Rating: Summary: good, but too short Review: doesn't make sense at first but when you start to think about it, it's all good.
Rating: Summary: Atencion! Rating: Summary: great animation but bad dvd manufacturing Review: Even while writing this review, after viewing the ADV DVD, my eyes are color-separated because of the bad transfer of DVD color separation. Don't buy this DVD but keep your VHS tape. The publisher ADV should apology for this bad production.
Rating: Summary: The Technical (well, sorta) Details Review: Well, nearly everyone else has gone into great detail about the series itself, so I won't (because if I begin to praise "NG Evangelion," I'll have a hard time stopping ^_^;). I'll just cover the nitpicking details that people who are wondering about the quality of the DVD itself might want to know. Main problem - the subtitles. ADV opened their tightly closed fists to allow GORGEOUS subtitles for the opening sequence (large font, yellow edged in black), AND were nice enough to romanize the lyrics every once in while for those who like to sing along (me! me!). However, the rest of the DVD suffers. Yellow/white font (mainly yellow, white is added when two people are talking at once), rather thin letting and hard to pick up from time to time. If you have a small TV, you're in trouble. Think the subtitles for "Serial Experiments Lain: Navi." The translation is also a bit different. Instead of promising fan service at the end of each preview, Misato-san promises... a bargain? Eh? Little stuff. The plus, however, is wonderful interactive menus; which include about ten legnthy previews for other ADV films, character bios, and the music of NGE. And, of course, enhanced picture and sound quality. (And there's a really NICE tho random picture of Misato-san on the inside cover - don't know why, but not complaining! ;) That's pretty much all I can think of. Enjoy!
