Rating: Summary: I love this anime Review: I found no color problems at all as mentioned in other reviews. The dubbing is fairly good, even though I prefer to watch it subbed, and from the very beginning you know it is going tobe something speacial. I compare this anime to only Serial Experiments Lain and Visions Of Escaflowne.
Rating: Summary: Read and Be Enlightened Review: The poetry of Anno that is EVA! The series and the movies are wonderful, but ADV's attempt to transfer this beauty to DVD falls short: Numerous color shifts not present in the LD or VHS (from red to orange to red, and blue to grey and back), gross alterations to the original animation, and details are lost ocasionally into a fuzzy haze around the screen edges. All in all though, if you haven't already watched Evangelion, rent it. And then come back afterwards and either get the LD or tape, but not this DVD. ADV is mending their ways and the rest of the series will be delayed for a year while they and Gianax (the production studio in Japan) "work out" the problems. In short: GOOD SERIES! Bad DVD. . .
Rating: Summary: evangelion Review: My favorite anime ever sees the worst dvd transfer ever. I almost cried when i watched it. At times it looks worse than ADV's own VHS version and that was bad. But its evangelion and if you don't have it on VHS you just have to sniff and go get it. Otherwise stay away.., i think it killed my 20/15 vision.
Rating: Summary: Excellent spanish edition Review: This DVD is far away for what I expected, the series is just great, but change the signs from japanese to english was just a extremely bad idea.... But.. by the other hand, the spanish version is just superb, they took it from Locomotion (a Latin American Cable Network) I can say that it's better than the japanese version (yes!.. I know it's a sin to say that... but it's true). I suggest to ADV to take more care of the next DVDs, if they want to change signs, just use other angles... like Dysney does... it's easy and that's what a DVD is suppouse to do.
Rating: Summary: VHS was better Review: Neon Genesis Evangelion is by far one of the best animes ever. Something like bringing it to DVD should have enhanced it. Though this was not the case. The DVD by far is horrible. They changed signs and paper to read in english which is an insult. The video quality is horrible everything looks still. The scenary is in total contrast to where it should be, it's horrible. The VHS is much better.
Rating: Summary: Quit your complaining? Come on... Review: Ok, perhaps if you watch this DVD on a television, the poor quality may not be as noticeable but on a decent monitor you can tell it is at best a really good VHS. What a lot of people are complaining about is that the quality can be way better than what it is. If you have had the oppertunity to see the Japanese DVD release done by Gainax not ADV, you will know why the ADV release is so bad. And for you guys waiting on the second release, ADV has halted it due to the overwhelming feedback from people who think they did a pretty bad job on the first. So if you still think that this DVDs quality and editing are good/excellent you are in the minority.
Rating: Summary: Your killing me. Where are the next dvd's? Review: My friend has introduced me into a new world. The anime world. He told me about Dragonball Z, and now I'm hooked. He told me about Evangelion, and now I'm more then hooked. I really love this show. I find its story line one of the best I've ever seen. I cant believe that someone actually thought of something that darn good. Flabergasting! GLAVEN! The dvd is incredible. Not only does it deliver the dvd graphics and extra features, it has 2 extra episodes for the same price as the vhs. The theme song for this show blew me away, and the animation is worthy of,... um... a Purple Heart? an Oscar? Something good anyway. Shinji Ikari is introduced to a new world when he sees an Angel.(No, not your friendly Heavenly Angel). He is brought to NERV. A top secret intelligence operation building where there priority is to restore and keep life at its peek. They make this very tall robot to battle with the angels. Though, the only people that can pilot the robots known as Evangelions, are 14 year olds. And the supply is very short. So, Shinji is chosen and he goes into battle. ---Thats whats in the first two episodes---- Shinji is at school, and a state of emergency is called as a new Angel surfaces. Shinji gets into his Evangelion, and goes all at it with the Angel. And, in these 2 episodes, he makes some new friends. ---- There is no word in the dictionary or in any language to express how much you should get this dvd or get involved into the series. Though, its been 4 years. I suppose no more dvd's are gonna come out.
Rating: Summary: Quit your complaining! This is excellent! Review: I read the reviews of everyone here before seeing the DVD and I was a little worried that the DVD quality would be bad, but I had nothing to worry about. First of all, someone put it best when they said that we've been spoiled by Lain, I'm sure that series was made with DVD in mind. Evangelion was originally made in the 80's. Someone else said that the Laserdisc looks better, of course it does! Laserdisc isn't nearly as compressed as DVD. I don't know if they changed this in the more recent printings, but Misato still promises "fan service" not a "bargain." There are also things that were translated that weren't in the VHS I watched, IE some girls yelled "pervert," "wimp," "ape" etc in the background, I had always wondered what they said. In all, this is an excellent DVD of an excellent series! Hurry up with the next episodes!
Rating: Summary: A cost effective way to start you Neon Genesis Collection Review: If you have not got Neon Genesis (shinseiki) Evangelion (ebangerion)on VHS or Laserdisc, then this first DVD consisting of espisodes 1 to 4 is great value for money. To buy the individual tapes here in Australia is very expensive, and there is only the choice of a dubbed or even more expensive sub-titled version. The video quality is very good and the language and sub-title options are excellent especially if you understand some Japanese. Unfortunately the English dubbed version does not convey the full intent of what some of the characters are saying. The english sub-titles when playing the Japanese audio track are not necessay a full translation but is sufficient for those whose Japanese is not that fluent so it helps you fill in the gaps. The audio quality of the non english versions seems quieter than the English dub but that could be a reflection of my DVD decoder card and TV hookup. Overall, if have a DVD player or DVD-ROM drive and haven't already got NGE in another format, get this DVD! You can watch it over and over again and pick up something new each time.
Rating: Summary: really bad work Review: Well, Evangelion is just one of the best anime series i ever seen. So i didn't wait a lot when I knew its release on DVD. But this DVD is of very poor quality and just make me regret not to have the VHS instead. Hope next volumes will be much greater to reach the OK level for a DVD.
