Summary: This is Remastered?
Review: Call me a purist but this is not exactly what was advertised. I remember the jaw-dropping original series well and when I heard the DVDs would be available I preordered both Robotech and the original Macross series. Robotech Remastered does not nclude all the scenes which were dropped from the original series and I can live with that. However, the new sound effects are distractingly loud, unnecessary, and inappropriate. For example, a futuristic veritech falling from high altitude does not sound like a diving prop plane and reflex missiles do not sound like whistling backyard fireworks! They certainly did not sound like that in the original airings. I'm planning on selling my copy. However, I'd hate for someone coming to Robotech for the first time to get the impression that this version is somehow "superior".

Summary: Quality: Much Better!!!
Review: Compared to the previous washed-out and blurred DVD editions of Robotech (blue boxes, etc.) this version is a far better reach of quality. The picture is bright and the colors are fully saturated. The 5.1 surround sound gives you an almost theatrical experience from the later days of mono audio. Though, I did notice newly added sounds to some of the effects and such, but it only adds to the viewing experience. I highly recommend this remastered collection!

Review: First, the good: Great visuals. OK, there were a few places, especially when a dark background was present that I could see lint or something on the edges of the picture, and two times, on a dark background, I noticed a slight ?flaring? in a couple spots. I don't know what the correct term is (flaring). That's the bad for visuals, the good is WOW! It looks better than it EVER has before. I was a little too interested in watching these DVD's to pull out my legacy ones, but some of the visuals are just eye popping. REally. Everything seems so much cleaner and crisper. Especially the first time the main gun fires in booby trap. Vivid. Every thing had more detail and I can forgive, easily, the bad notes for the visuals. They are not a problem for me. In fact, if you are on the fence about buying this edition, get thy arse off the fence at this point and go buy it. It's worth it. Great job whomever cleaned the visuals up. WOW! Just Fantastic. OK Packaging: Don't really care. Yes trading cards come too, and they are VERY nice, but also, I don't really care. Sound: I can sympathize with those that have posted with regards to the sound effects being changed. I don't really agree with this, especially as it seems some bad were swapped for good, and the overall effect on the Zen weapons is that they sound much wimpier. And yes, someone did place more sound effects with more enthusiasm than maybe was necessary, but really, it's fine. I think I paid more attention to this simply because I had read other posts that pointed this out and so was Looking for it. I did not have any problem with hearing dialogue, in the first 3 episodes, when there was "action" on the screen, as some reviewers did. Bonus: New footage was great. REally. Not THE reason to buy this release, but still fun. A bit more shots of people biting it, and Yes the shower scene is there (saw it on the main menu background) so beware guess if that's what you're into. The new opening and closings: didn't care for. Sorry, I like the old one much better, and if all three series have already been remastered, then why not just re-edit. Unless the quality is different between the series or that is prohibitively expensive maybe? Whomever wrote that the editing was smooth and flowed in the original was spot-on. Too bad that's not here, maybe a change in later editions? Please? New eye catches: Whatever, should have left them out. We already have robotech w/old school eye catches so why would someone go through the trouble of redoing the series just to break up the episodes with new , remastered ones? I understand the reasoning with the "legacy" because they are supposed to remind us of back in the day, but now? In the edition that never aired in the first place? No se. I really hope they delete these from later releases. It's a bit jarring. Overall: Buy these. REally. They are very good and VERY worth the price, which is around $...an episode, even at retail. The visuals are great, and if you decide to ignore all you're read about sound effects, you won't care about them. You may not care anyway. The rest is just stuff. The openings/closings/eyecatches are overwith quickly enough. You won't regret it. I can't wait for the following editions.

Review: Harmony Gold seriously must give this series to someone who will do it right. They really need to sell the rights to the series to someone like Pioneer. This is just ridiculous and their bumbling DVD production is killing what is one of the best early anime series to make it over to American shores. I was waiting for this one and I feel really let down.

Summary: The BEST Version To Collect !!!
Review: I can't understand what some of the reviews are talking about. Perhaps they're bitter that they already purchased past editions of ROBOTECH and all of a sudden, this one comes along. In remastering this edition of ROBOTECH, they have created a 5.1 surround sound track, and used the original film masters from Japan (Macross), and have added scenes not found in previous versions of ROBOTECH. Sure, there are a few scenes that are found in MACROSS and not in here, but that's what seperates MACROSS from ROBOTECH. This is the BEST edition you'll ever find on DVD and the one to collect. So, throw away all the horrid versions that you may have (VHS, DVD, etc.) and start collecting these. There's no other edition better out there!

Summary: Destroyed a little bit of my childhood
Review: I purchased this is in memory of the little boy who woke up early to watch robotech; unfortunately, robotech is awful. The program is written for a bright five year old or a dumb 10 year old. The plot barely makes since and the animation is stilted at its best. Save the memories of your childhood and don't by this.

Summary: Buyer Beware
Review: I strongly recommend that you read through some of the positive and negative reviews here before buying this "Remastered Edition" of the Harmony Gold Robotech series. If your thinking this is going to play exactly how your memory of it is when we beat it home from school back in the 80's to catch this great show on tv, FORGET IT. This is a jazzed up version, well intended probably, but unnecessary IMHO. I was very impressed by the show when it came to America, I even went to a Robotech convention back in the day, met Carl Macek, had a Robotech t-shirt, stuff, etc. I wanted the preservation of the show as it played, as I remembered it, with the same opening, etc. That is why I bought all the first issues of Robotech on dvd with the arrival of the "Legacy Collection" box sets. Later, they were re-released without the fancy extra special features discs. That second release is known as "The Complete Collection" series. That is the one to get if you want things as they originally were shown without any tinkering around. I recommend getting it while you still can. This new release is a tinkered around version and another way for the film company to get more cash. Granted, there are pluses and minuses to this new tinkered with the series, but I'd recommend it for the serious collector only. The original series as shown and as released on dvd holds up just fine and is spectacular. Don't be deceived about that. It's great. And, when tinkering around with sound and visuals with a series this old, it can be rather difficult to make the tinkering not stand out. If it works, don't screw around with it. The Harmony Gold vision of Robotech works just fine as originally aired and released to dvd.

Review: I used to have the first DVD release of Robotech, and I must confess that this new remastered edition is outstanding. The quality of both video and sound makes this DVD set a must buy for any Robotech fun. And if you ever experienced Robotech in Spanish this DVD set will make you drop happy tears. Can't wait for more remastered Robotech.

Summary: For what it is, it's great
Review: I'm new to Robotech. I remember watching it as a kid, but not a whole lot. So I had to go from the start. And I'm a guy who's always confused when looking at anime series because of all the volumes, series, sub-series, movies that take place between certain episodes and sub-series, editions, special editions, etc etc etc. Often it just makes me turn away and look for something else to watch. But this Robotech Remastered came out and it plainly says it contains episodes 1 thru 12. It was clear that this is the start and it's a new and supposedly extended edition. And this was $17.99 at Target(check your local Target first, heheheh) so I was like "hey alright, I'll do it!" and I bought it. So I'm not a guy who's seen earlier DVD editions or read Macross comics or learned the Japanese language just to understand the original dialogue or whatever. I just want to buy a DVD or DVD set and enjoy it. And that's what I did with this one, and for what it is, this set is great. Animation quality is old looking of course, but I got used to it. It clicked with me. I laughed as Rick Hunter was caught in the lingerie store and called Lisa a "sourpuss." Exploding ships and laser battles were fun to watch. An entire city inside a gigantic space ship? Alright, works for me. Dialogue was easy to hear and understand. Character interaction and development was cute but intelligently done for its time. Again, I know there are Robotech "purists" and whatever and I haven't seen all those other editions out there nor do I want to devote that many hours and dollars just out of curiosity. I from what I learned about this sort of thing, I see that people are looking for the definitive version, edition, or whatever you wanna call it. And often it's just up to each person's opinion and what works for them. And this Remastered edition of Robotech works for me. Maybe I'll see the "The Complete Collection" that was mentioned in an earlier review later on and like it better. Who knows. But I like this one and I'm planning on getting volumes 2 an 3. I didn't see them at Target so I guess I'll get them on the next best place, amazon.com :-D
