Review: Great for anyone that wants to view the series at a good price. There is absolutely nothing new about it, and it comes in a large DVD case that holds all 6 DVDs, so there is no box w/individual DVD cases.

Review: Hehe where do I begin. Hot chix's, kick @#% robots, 80's rock music, and lots of fighting. To me this is the biggest "sleeper" anime I have seen so far. When I heard Bubblegum Crisis, Im thinking "great a city with a Bubblegum Crisis on its hand, some Anime" but it is far from that. These past 2 months I have purchased an insane amount of anime off of Amazon.com (All of Rurouni Kenshin, Gundam Wing, Trigun, Escaflowne, BlueSeed, Fushigi Yugi, X, Arc the Lad...the list keeps going) and this one took me by complete surprise, and I couldn't have started watching it at a better time. I was about halfway through the first set of Fushigi Yugi, and dont get me wrong, its a great anime, but I was gettin a little tired of the "Oh Tamahome"...."Oh Miaka" over and over each episode that I needed a break. I picked up Bubblegum Crisis 2040, and lookout man I was hit with a wild left jab out of no where. The rock music instantly grabs you, and unlike most other Anime (i say most) the first episode grabs you right off the bat with a dispute between 2 of the main characters. From there it is non-stop action as you watch these chix battle it out in their hardsuits one [bottom]whoopin after another. The only reason I couldn't watch this straight through in one day was work. I got the series on Monday though and was finished by Thursday. The only thing I thought was weird throughout the anime was Sylia's temper. The reason I say this is beacuse everytime she gets upset she ends up throwing or dropping a glass. The first time she did it, i thought ok shes [upset], I understand. But it happenes again throughtout the anime like 4 more times, and I just thought it was kind of weird. The last thing I will say about this series is that it has a definte AW YEAH factor to it. I found myself many times during the boomer fights goin AW YEAH! As with my other reviews, this only got 4 stars because it is not my favorite anime (close second to Rurouni Kenshin's 25 DVD's of goodness - but nuthin beats the Battousai!)

Review: I don't mean to get anyone mad but this box set could have been better. In Bubble Crisis 2032 they'er already a team,A family member was not robot,and one of Saber Knights was not mental weak. I was disappoined with upgrade of this anime the suit were ok. But Bubble Crisis 2040 should have left after 2032 but it just my option.

Summary: The Perfect Collection at the Perfect Price
Review: I first caught BGC Tokyo 2040 at a local anime convention, and proceeded to start hunting around for the DVDs as soon as I could. As a remake of the original Bubblegum Crisis, it does a good job of updating it with better animation and good mecha and character designs and the Perfect Collection's price is perfect, being far lower than the individual discs as there's only one large box and only one insert. While I miss the cover art on each disc, this is a good investment for someone who wants to get the whole series but doesn't want to spend twice the money getting it individually.My main complaints with this collection would probably stem from two things: the ADV trailers which take up about fifteen or so minutes at the front of each disc, and some of the English voice acting. There are times when I switch to the Japanese just to avoid some of the voices, but some purists would argue this is the only way to enjoy the series. Is it worth the money? Yes, I'd say the collection is worth it for the relatively low price and good entertainment value it represents. It's not the best anime, but it's fun and is slickly done.

Review: I just bought this set last week and I'm glad I did. The price on this set is awesome, its about time I can get a full series for [money]... The animation was top notch, with good music and great dubbing, didnt watch the subbed version, wanted to take a break from reading. ADV films must be realizing how many people are starting to buy the import region 0 discs which are usually around [money] a set. They did a smart thing by offering this one at such a great price, since I am usually one of those people who buys the imports to save a couple hundred bucks. Anyway the plot is pretty strange, but it makes sence for the most part, the characters are well developed, so you actually care if they die or get hurt. There is a little bit of a love story involved which keeps it interesting... Buy the set you wont be dissapointed.

Review: I just finished watching this series, so I've decided to review it. This series is a remake of the original 8-episode "Bubblegum Crisis" OAV series. It's 26 episodes long and spans six DVDs. The first four DVDs contain four episodes each, and the fifth and sixth DVDs contain five episodes each. There are some nice extras, such as character profiles and voice actor credits. However, there is no credits list for the English Sylia voice actor. Credits for the Spanish voice actors would have been nice, too. The DVDs are trilingual, containing Japanese, English, and Spanish audio tracks. The opening and closing songs are in Japanese on all three tracks, and the in-episode songs are dubbed into English only. The Spanish track contains the Japanese audio of the songs. The English dub isn't quite as accurate as for the original "Bubblegum Crisis". My advice is to watch it in Japanese with English subtitles first and then in English. Sometimes, I like to watch DVDs in English with English subtitles. It allows me to easily see the changes in dialogue. With only two songs for the opening and closing credits, it would have been nice to dub them into English, but this wasn't done. As for the series itself, I won't say that it's better than the original series. It isn't, but it isn't worse either. Some things are the same, and some things are different. All of the character designs and voice actors (Japanese and English) are different. My one complaint about the character designs is that some characters, most notably Priss, have pale skin with no explanation, though Priss does sometimes appear darker. The series takes place in another universe than the original series. There is plenty of character development. The series doesn't focus on music as much as the original does, and the 2040 techno remix of "Konya wa Hurricane" doesn't appear in the series. The music that does appear is more techno and punk than the original music. Unfortunately, the final episode suffers from the same problem as the final episode of "Street Fighter II V". Too much time is devoted to fighting and visual effects. While the ending of this series is more satisfying (all of the characters return to Earth alive and well) than that of SF2V, they could have cut a lot of the visual effects and shown the Knight Sabers reuniting. Instead, the series ends with Sylia, Mackie, and Nigel at Sylia's old house; Leon apparently in a bar somewhere else; Nene and Linna on a tropical island; and Priss in the desert, singing. While we can assume that Sylia will go out looking for the others and find them, we aren't shown this. All of the hard suits except for Sylia's are trashed. Will she make new ones? Unlike SF2V, this series doesn't waste time with redundancies or episode recaps. Also, each episode is longer than episodes of SF2V. So, while this series is three episodes shorter than SF2V, it's actually longer. Overall, this is an enjoyable series, but the ending could have been better.

Review: I watched this series both when it was on TV, and again when they were released on DVD here (a few months ago now). Being a continuation of the original Bubblegum Crisis series answers a few questions I had when I first saw this series. There were references to indicate that Sylia had worn a suit before, but there had been no sign of her wearing one in this series. I would rate the storyline as being fairly shallow at first, staying with the series due to the excellent animation, but I found after about the first few episodes that the storyline was keeping me enthralled, and I got so that I couldn't wait for the next episode (shown next week (TV series)).
As with many series', there was a few episodes midway through that seemed to be a bit silly, almost as though the makers were trying to pad it out, but this was rare (and I could be wrong). If you like suspenseful finishes, this series has it - every episode leaves you hanging with someone in mortal danger, or some new creature (Boomer) that seems almost unbeatable. The only problem I have with the DVDs is the extended advertisements for ADV when you first put the disk in, but this isn't really a problem. I might add that the starting and ending title sequences tend to go for far too long, but they are made as chapters in themselves, and are easy to skip (referring to Australian release). The extras on the discs are excellent with good bio's on the characters and the equipment they use. If you have a surround sound setup with a subwoofer attached, you will not be disappointed as the action sequences usually start with a lot of bass that will have your chair bouncing on the floor (not overdone though....). I found myself to be constantly amazed at the english voices done for the characters - it added to the characters being strong and independent women, but also allowed them *some* weaknesses as well. To be frank, the characters showed more depth than most 'live' people on sitcoms and chat shows. If you are tired of Manga Women being thin as sticks with big chests, you will be pleased here as the main characters have more 'realistic' dimensions. They are still very tall and thin and elegant looking, but they don't have these humungous [breasts] distracting you from the story by making you wonder how they manage to stand up! If you like serials and Manga material, you will not be disappointed. The comparable series here in Australia still sells for about Aus$[money] (about US$[money]).

Summary: Actually four and a half stars....
Review: I won't go too much into the good things about this series (they've all been covered in the other reviews). In short: great action, animation, music, and story. And, hey, for once the English voice acting is pretty darn good! As I was watching it, this series was well on its way to getting a five-star review from me, and possibly becoming my favorite anime series of all time...but then, like Key the Metal Idol and Akira before it, it seemed to stumble at the finish line. Not much of a stumble, but enough to knock off half a star. I won't go into specifics since I don't want to spoil the story for those who haven't seen it yet, but the final disc of this series seemed to me to be a bit on the sloppy side. Relationships between the characters which were started in earlier episodes are never followed through in a satisfying manner, important questions are just sort of glossed over, and a lot of the plotting feels loose and contrived. And that ending! Sheesh! I don't know about anyone else, but if I sit through a 10-11 hour series I think I deserve a bit more than two minutes or so of epilouge. Oh, well, I guess that's just the nature of anime. Despite what I've said, I would still recommend this set; it's a great ride, up until the last disc and that so-so ending.

Review: I would like to point out that there is very little in common with the original OVA series. This seems to be very much based on the character of Linna. It has a "Magical Girl" type feel to it, and the last few episodes made me think that I was almost watching "Sailor Moon" instead of a BGC. The new character designs were great, but they changed the characters so much that you almost don't recognize them (For instance: Quicny was a weak old man that wasn't nearly as cunning as he was in the original series and lets Mason (Who never becomes Largo in this remake) get the best of him). Also, it turned into a "Stop the rouge boomer of the day" type ordeal (Once again, like a Magical Girl "Stop the Youma of the day"). If I remember correctly, that was not the plot of the original. There were boomers that were a threat, but they were usually relased on the population by Genom to test their capabilites against the AD Police so they could rate the performances of the boomer. In this series they just went "rouge" and Genom covered it up. Also, the boomers and just low-level servents of human that you could defiantely tell the diffrence from humans and with limited intelligence. In the original they could be just as intelligent and look just like humans (Like Sylvie, who never made an appearence in this series either). All in all it was horribly disappointing and i do not reccomend it to fans of the original OVAs.
