Summary: Wonderful teaching video
Review: This is a terrific teaching and entertaining video to aid in learning basic potty needs and steps. It certainly "speaks" to children on their level in clear and uncomplicated terms. The video uses situations that will be familiar to children and are carried out in both a simple and compassionate manner. When my child first saw this video he was beyond mesmerized. I think he watched it at least 4 or 5 times a day for several days in a row. This certainly is not common practice in our house, however due to his intense interest in the (agreeable to me) subject matter I allowed the viewings. My child is in the active threshold of potty training now. I believe when I first bought the video he had just been introduced to this new world of "pottydom". It has been a considerable time since my child has seen this video, but after having an accident this past weekend in cloth underpants he immediately began reciting the videos' basic potty instruction theme in a very thorough and understanding manner. Cleary it has left a significant and lasting (positive) impression on him.

Summary: Bear explains potty time
Review: This is the first Bear in the Blue House DVD that I've bought and my daughter(2+)and I love it. This isn't an instructional video in the sense that it tells you how to potty train. I like to think of it as a way of explaning potty time to my daughter at her level. Bear candidly and calmly explains that everyone uses the potty. He explains that accidents happen and that times you just have to wait and relax while on the potty. I also like that he reinforces hand washing and he suggests what to say when you are away from home and need to go to the potty. There are several scenes about the potty so there are different chances to get the message. I love the hip "Potty Train" song as well as the beautiful singing at the end of every segment with Luna, the moon. The crowning accolade to me for this DVD was that my daughter mentions things that Bear says while going to the potty or in the general course of the day. Also a plus on the DVD is that there are 2 other "non potty" stories so after we get past this stage we will still want to watch it.

Summary: Entertained (as usual by "Bear"), but not trained!
Review: My 2yr. old son LOVES anything to do with "Bear in the Big Blue House" so i thought this video would definitely be a big help. I even went as far as to buy the matching potty chair that sings the "cha-cha" when you flush it. Unfortunately, after almost a month he still will not sit on his potty chair for more than 5 seconds! (But he sure loves to flush it - over & over again.) He loves the video though. And it has taught him the word "potty" and what the potty is exactly. So as far as familiarizing him, it's done awesome. But it has NOT made him eager to do anything close to the actual act. I don't regret buying the video, but don't expect wonders. It obviously takes time, desire, and a lot more than a guy in a bear suit singing the word "potty." Ha!

Summary: Entertaining & Educational but limited interest from my kid
Review: I've had a little difficulty getting my three year old son to watch this video; but generally found it to be good. I found potty training resources very hard to find in general and appreciated this. I also got the matching book, which my child found more interesting. I should add my son is still not potty trained.

Review: I have always loved the creativity and the production quality of the Bear in the Big Blue House. This video addresses the details and concerns of potty training in an upbeat, gentle yet straight forward way. My almost 3 year old really gets into the "Potty" song.

Summary: A great tool when it's potty training time!
Review: A friend loaned us this video when we first started potty training and I found it very helpful, especially that it teaches that "when you gotta go, you gotta go" and the game/activity will still be there when you get back. Our daughter enjoyed the video and I found it very helpful to play the video first thing in the morning ... that gave her much of the reminding she needed to be successful and "stay dry". I appreciated that I didn't have to be the broken record player ... oh, I still had to remind, but it was so much easier to say, "remember what Bear said ...". I also appreciated that the video covered flushing and washing hands.After we relocated to Sparks, our daughter had a back slide. I had returned the video to our friend and immediately ordered my own copy. Our daughter watched it once and the accidents stopped. (Thankfully). We'll keep the video for when our second daughter hits potty training time. Highly recommended!

Summary: Be prepared to fork out a little more than you expect.
Review: My two year old nephew is now fully potty trained after watching this informative and educational video. The only downside is that he insists on getting kitted out in a "Bear in the Big Blue House" costume before he'll go to the toilet. This had led to some unfortunate accidents and a couple of very disgruntled fancy dress shop managers, which, for me, defeats the whole object of the film. Going to the toilet should be a relaxing, stress free experience for a child, not the nightmare of recrimination that follows another soiled, orange furry, ursine outfit. Buy with caution.

Summary: Loose the stick dancers
Review: I was hoping this would be a decent video about potty training. It jumps around too much from character to character and from process to process. Addresses washing hands before it addresses using the potty which it called a toilet and let's face it few kids / parents call it a toilet so that is another thing that irritated me. I have always hated that shadow chick, and she is really annoying in this series. And the "potty time" song with silloute stick figures is just plain stupid. There was only one redeeming scene in the actual bathroom with the little brown bear, but the rest of this was total [...]. It is going in the next yard sale.

Review: My child really enjoyed this video. She sang along and really listened. She was completely potty trained by one month after her 2nd birthday. Naturally it was a lot of work with herself, her dad, and myself, but this video was a wonderful teaching tool that she still enjoys watching.

Summary: Useful for older kids, entertainment for younger ones
Review: This DVD would be useful for older kids who are already partly potty trained, and can understand the inferences. Younger kids lose the message entirely, but can still enjoy the songs. The mouse is way too strident and whiny, and I sincerely hope my son doesn't decide to imitate that behaviour Shadow's little stories are really cheesy and pointless, but the choice of colours and graphics appeals to toddlers. This DVD is not for those who are looking for an instructional guide to potty training for toddlers, especially as only one episode actually deals with this subject, but the songs and graphics are fun for entertainment purposes.
