Review: What a wonderful, entertaining and educational video. My son & I have all of the "Bear" videos. And now that it's potty training time, why not do it with a little help from Bear and the crew! We dance, we sing, and then we go potty! We love Bear in the Big Blue House at our house.

Review: My 21 months old son loves "Bear in the Big Blue House" He seen the "Potty" video for the first time last weekend and now he is wanting to go potty on the potty chair! All the video's are excellant for early learning.

Summary: Interesting, funny, and no pressure!
Review: As the mother of an 18 month old who is beginning to show interest in the potty, I absolutely loved this episode! We watched it on TV this morning and I ordered it for her at my earliest opportunity. Bear lets the kids know that there is no pressure, giving up your diaper is sometimes hard to do, and it's OK to have accidents. But at the same time, he reminds the children of the advantages of being potty trained. Loved it! I've already recommended this to two friends, and the video hasn't even been released yet!

Summary: Teaches kids in terms they'll understand
Review: This is one of the cutest episodes I've seen of "Bear in the Big Blue House"! It teaches kids that going to the potty is a normal thing for them, and all creatures. This video also stresses the importance of hygiene. There are some adorable songs in this episode, and that may help children have some fun with learning to potty.Be warned: The word "poop" is used many times. Some people may not want their kids to use that word, but I personally think it is a very easy (and descriptive) word for kids to use.

Summary: Good video undermined by racist stereotyping
Review: Like a lot of the Bear videos, this has great scripting, catchy tunes and good puppeteering. However, the big let down for me was the song introduced by Shadow, who is an annoying representation of a bog-Oirish charachter complete with inane diddly-eiddly fiddle music. The song is quite disgraceful really - cut-out figures supposed to be blacks in 1970s disco attire, complete with frizzy Afro hairstyles, thick lips and wide noses. At best you might say it's racist stereotyping, at worst downright insulting to African-Americans who might buy this video. Come on, Muppet People, you can do better than that!

Summary: I couldn't believe it
Review: I was a litte hesitant buying this video, but after reading previous reviews, I thought "what did I have to lose." My 3yr old son would tell me when he had to go but was refusing to sit on the potty. I bought the video, he watched it twice and asked for his potty chair right away. He is going on his own now, and likes to watch the video afterwards to tell "Bear" that he did go potty. The songs are really catchy and Bear makes the kids feel at ease with going potty. It's direct and to the point. And a winner! I recommend it to any one struggling with this issue.

Summary: What a pice of crap!
Review: You call THIS potty training help?!
I bought this book for my 2 1/2 year old and he didn't even bother to sit down to watch it. My mistake was to assume it was potty training help for begginers when it's actually reassurance and advice for older kids who are ALREADY potty trained. It remarks about the importance of going to the toilet as soon as you feel like it to avoid accidents and encourage those who already wet their pants not to be embarassed about it, which is good but is not basic training. I expected to see a 2 to 3 year old character who was still in diapers to be INTRODUCED to the potty and in a simple and easy way . There is lots of confusing and unnecessary blah, blah, blah before they get into the subject and the song lyrics are quite complicated for a 2 year old to fully understand what he's supposed to do. The part where kids are encouraged to wipe, flush and wash hands is important but I would have been better if they had shown the character do it and not just hear from behind a door.

Summary: MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN ATTITUDE
Review: We got this video when our son (almost 3) was already in the middle of potty training but had started balking and wasn't quite "getting it". It made a huge difference in a couple of key areas, most importantly the part where Tutter the mouse has to stop what he's doing to use the bathroom. Almost overnight, our son would stop playing and say "I have to use the bathroom, just like mouse in the big blue house!" Within a week we had no more accidents due to dawdling. It also helped him understand how to ask to use the bathroom when he's in an unfamiliar place. Rather than being a "how-to" documentary that explains the nuts and bolts of using the bathroom, this video addresses the emotional side of things and the finer points. The songs are hilarious, especially the big production number at the end where the characters join the "Mystic Order of the Toileteers". If you are looking for a "how to" video, this isn't it. But if you are looking for positive reinforcement, this is not only great but also entertaining enough that watching it over and over again is bearable.

Summary: Not the best video for children under 2
Review: I started having my son watch this video when he was about 20 months old, and I think it was over his head. He'd sing the songs and such (which are pretty catchy), but I don't think he in any way got that this was what we were trying to do with him. I can see how it'd be great for kids who are pottying at an older age, though.
