Summary: vampire hunter d bloodlust
Review: I've seen this movie in japan the story line mixes old and new traditons on the beliefs with vampires. A great revisal yet new twist for the Vampire Hunter D collections which actually features over 100 stories. great updated CG grafics a start for new breed anime movies. If you liked the origanal 1985 version, you'll love the new "BLOOD" pumped into this one.

Summary: Great modern anime.
Review: First of all the movie has nothing to do with the first VHD other than it's title character.Even the art style and the way in which the story unfolds is different. There is still a lot of violence and action, but the film is not as gory as the original. The animation isn't as good as films like Princess Mononoke or Blood, but the art style is very alluring. The art is a lot more similar to Amano's (the character designer)style than the first film was.The voice acting is in English. It is not dubbed, however. It was originally filmed in Engilsh and shown with Japanese subtitles in Japan. The acting isn't as good as most Japanese-languge Anime, but much much better than the English dubbing of the films like Ghost in the Shell.D's hand (voiced by "Who's Line Is it Anyway?" player Mike McShane)is particularly good.
Overall, this may not be the best anime film of all time, but it sure is a great one.A good story with great art. I expect the picture quality to be much better on DVD.

Summary: A Must See!!!!
Review: It all started when I bought the original Vampire Hunter D on DVD. I clicked on the special features, and low and behold, I have seen the light. It was the trailer for the "new" Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust movie. I fell in love with the trailer right away and watched it 24/7. Then I wanted to know more about Bloodlust so I went to the site.

I visited the site, and I was excited to see that they were gonna have a special advance screening of VHD: Bloodlust at UCLA. This was Halloween of 2000. The theatre was packed. It was filled with goths and anime fans. The atmosphere was energetic. The lights dims and the curtains open. After it ended, I couldn't wait to watch it again. I had to wait one more year to watch it again.

The date is August 24th of 2001. This would be my second viewing of Bloodlust. Again, I was blown away. Afterwards I got to meet director Yoshiaka. For those of you who doesn't know, he also directed "Ninja Scroll." Ok, enough babbling, let's talk about the movie.

It's not technically a sequal to the original Vampire Hunter D. It takes place in the really distant future, where vampires are dominant, but their population is dwindling. In this dark future, mutants and demons roam the lands, while the humans are fighting to just live. It stars D, our protagonist, half human and half vampire(aka a dunpeal),on a mission to rescue Charlotte from our antagonist, Meier Link, a vampire.

The story is interesting as you wonder who this mysterious D is as he races time to rescue the damsel before The Markus Brothers rescues her first for the bounty. Grove, a member of The Markus Brother, would have to be one of my favorite characters. His powers is really cool. By flatlining, he is able to control his spirit to do things his physical body can't. Meier Link is another interesting fellow, as you think what's his real motive. If he really loves Charlotte or is he planning something sinister.

The action in the movie is good. Not as violent or as gory as Ninja Scroll, but the cool factor is still high. And the animation is really high quality stuff. The only thing that annoyed me is one of the character's eyes. A little too big. Other than that, the animation and the dark atmosphere meshes in perfectly to give you a gloomy feeling.

I think this is the only Anime I know of that has english as the original language. So for those of you who are "purists", the english dub will be the only way to view this movie. The dub is good. It's not bad to the point where you get annoyed, but good enough.

In conclusion, story is good, action is good, animation is good, dub is good, overall a really good movie. I like this more than the original Vampire Hunter D movie. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Unless you are a person who wants nudity in their anime, you will be disappointed.

Summary: Charles Solomon Shouldn't Review Anime
Review: Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is a follow-up to the mid-80's "Vampire Hunter D." In Bloodlust we see, D, the half-human half-vampire doing what he does best--hunting vampires of course!

I will stop a moment to recommend that you watch Bloodlust on a mid-range quality DVD player or better. The artwork, while breathtaking tends to be too dark on older DVD players and "everyday" DVD players to really appreciate. Pick up an entry-level Onkyo or Denon or something of similar quality at the very least and no, Pioneer doesn't count.

Okay, back to the review.

Bloodlust is another Vampire Hunter D that manages to accomplish the Sci-Fi Horror Genre with ease. I personally felt the story is better this time, and the direction is also better. Though, it is bloody, and violent, it does the setting well and fits with the story. The plot, is pretty much exactly as summed up in Solomon's review, so I won't bore you with it here. However there are a couple of points where Solomon's general dis-interest in anime shows. The "Confusing Illusions" he speaks of aren't at all confusing and yield some nice plot twists at the end. In addition Solomon misses the point the artwork and the style of this particular anime when he says "The very limited drawn animation clashes visually with the more fluid computer-generated imagery--D's cape billows dramatically, but his expression rarely changes." D is stoic as they come. His expression isn't supposed to change. That's part of the charm. I highly recommend this anime, which is without a doubt a much better "adaptation" (as Solomon wrongly puts it--it is a continuation) of the originial Vampire Hunter D.

Summary: The Original Classic's Sequel
Review: Bloodlust is a great combination of action and beautiful animation. Those of you who have seen the first film and were not impressed should look no other place than Bloodlust. Unlike the first film this is much more of an action packed violent movie. The voice acting of D is again done very well. Unlike in the first film all of the side characters are done just perfect. The animation in this film is the best you will ever see. The sound and picture quality is also very good. But no anime can be perfect as shown in this film. The D's hand which was awsome in the first film comes of as annoying in this one. The Scene in which the shuttle lifts of may make you gag put it isn't too horrible. Even with these flaws it is still a far superior film than the original. Those of you who have not seen the original should probably see it after you see Bloodlust.

So this is my review of Bloodlust

Story 7/10- The story thats there is good there just isn't that much of it.

Sound 8/10- The voice acting is done well and the quality is good.

Visuals 10/10- Great.

Extras 7/10- Nothing special.

Rating 15 and Up- Its not as violent as people say it is.

Movie 10/10- With a great lead character, tons of acton, decent story, and great animation Bloodlust is a must see.

The End

Summary: Um..Studio Madhouse..Kawajiri....Amano.....could there be...
Review: ..........a more incredible team to bring the latest Vampire Hunter D story to life?

Our wandering vampire hunting bad*** has been hired very reluctantly by a local aristocatic family to rescue a woman kidnapped by an ancient vampire named Meier Link. But D has some competition in this particular mission. The Markus Brothers, a team of vampire hunters with advanced technology hope to beat D to the prize. But after a brief encounter with Meier Link, D begins to suspect that the realtionship between Link and his abductee might not be what everyone assumes. Very dramatic with an outstanding orchestrated soundtrack, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is a worthy follow-up to the 80's classic. And believe me, fans of the original were the most difficult to please.

Some people have complained that this DVD doesn't contain the Japanese track. It should be noted that there is no Japanese track. Since the film takes place in Europe, the film was originally dubbed in English using some of the top American talent. Which is why the dubbing is far superior than most other Englich-dubbed anime.

"I know I'm a parasite, but I've always been a helpful parasite haven't I, D?"......HA

Summary: Mediocre plot, but told excellently!
Review: In a future world, decayed by untold horrors, anchient creatures of magic walk once again. Including the vampires.

From that simple premise, Vampire Hunter D tells the tale of a lone vampire hunter, and the girl who has hired him to destroy the evil count who bit her, before she becomes one of the undead as well. The plot itself isn't terribly original, including a few rather cliched character moments, but the characters and their world are portrayed very well, and there's never a dull moment.

My only other complaint is the overuse of 'action shots' during the fight scenes. If you've ever watched any other anime, you've seen it somewhere: the spot in the fight where they just do a closeup of the combatants, against a blurred background (possibly with the character moving across the screen quickly), and some jarringly loud sound effect. It wears on you rather fast.

Overall, however, this is a movie that must go into your anime collection.

Summary: GREAT, AMAZING, BEST VAMPIRE ANIME OF ALL TIME....
Review: The rate system only goes up to five, but it deserves so many more stars.

The story is simply breath taking, the detail and quality of the animation is superv. The sound and voice acting is also of A+ quality, the dark and misterious "D" is without a doubt one, if not THE most incredible anime character ever created.

From the opening scene to the action packed ending you will not want to miss a moment of it. The whole story about the vampire race is so depresing and well told, its simply amazing.

Complemented excellently by the sad love story. Dont wait another minute and deny yourself the pleasure of watching this excelent piece of anime.

Summary: This Movie Rocks
Review: No one can deny that the animation in this movie is gorgeous, stunning, beautiful. Characters all have depth to their faces, fluidity to their movies, while still being realistic moving, which is hard to do in animation. While some disagree, the dubbing really isn't bad at all, it even borderlines on good, as do the actors chosen to lend their voices to the parts. However, I'm not the first to say that the connection between Charlotte and Link was, well, silly at best. Charlotte comes off as being stupid and Link comes off as being an uptight psycho-possesive boyfriend. D was the best in this movie. People complain he didn't have enough depth, well, he's gonna be around for a while. I doubt that he has any desire just to pop out and fall in love, become someone's best friend, save a puppy, etc. He was stunningly animated. Maybe that's just my love for D. Overall, if one could combine the beautiful animation of this one with the storyline of the original, it'd be the classic anime, the touchstone for all anime to come. This is worth buying, I believe.

Thinking the seller sent me the wrong disc, I was about to return the movie, but when I stopped it I realized there was a selection for bloodlust! It turns out both the original and bloodlust are on the same disc!! Incredible, what luck! All this and I bought it for only 10 bux!! As for bloodlust the movie, it's just as incredible as this disc!
