Summary: A FIVE-STAR ANIME
Review: Wow! I'd have to say this is just about the best anime I have seen (comparing with the greats -- Akira, Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell, etc.). Although this is anime, it has a much more fluid look than the jerky too-cheap-to-draw-a-few-more-frames look of its competitors. The colors are vibrant (when appropriate), the artwork is mesmerizing (you can even see craters on the moon), and the story, the directing, is captivating. It's rated R because of the gory fight scenes (parts is parts). There is thankfully no human nudity or bad language, so apart from the bodies getting sliced and diced there's nothing objectionable.The DVD picture quality is superb, especially when viewed on a big screen. However, what really brings this movie alive is the 5.1 sound mix, which really pulls you into the action. We're talking Hollywood-blockbuster-quality sound, not the usual stereo mix with cheesy sound effects. If you like horror and/or anime, this is for you. It reminded me at times of some of the old Hammer horror films, and at other times of some of the old Heavy Metal magazines. A visual and aural feast! Well, don't just sit there, go ahead and order the thing! And make sure your couch has seat belts!

Summary: To all the people complaining about the lack of subtitles...
Review: ...I HATE dubs. But Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is an exception because the film was made in English! That's right. Because Urban Vision was involved with financing the film, it was decided to create an anime feature from the ground up for the American market. So quit complaining about the lack of subtitles because THERE IS NO JAPANESE AUDIO TRACK! The film played in Japan in English with Japanese subtitles! The English voices are, typically, hit-and-miss. The actual dialogue is creaky and obviously written by an amateur. (At one point a character agrees with another THREE TIMES in a single speech -- "Yeah. That's right. I agree with him on that point." -- just so he'll be saying enough words to match the lip-flap.) But look on the bright side: by not having to read subtitles you can fully devote your attention to the film's magnificent visuals. So...start watchin'!

Summary: Entertaining but suffers a few flaws
Review: I may be one of the few anime fans who actually hasn't seen the first Vampire Hunter D movie. Fortunately, it makes no real difference here. The setup is simple enough: far in the future, vampires took over, but now are dwindling, hunted by vengeful human bounty hunters and the half-vampire D. Here, D is asked to rescue a woman kidnapped by a vampire, but he has competition from a band of human hunters. The chase is long and violent (the movie was released theatrically and rated R, but it's not actually gory--lots of dismemberment, but very little actually comes *out*). The character designs here are stylish and elegant, even if not always attractive (D, the main vampire, and the girl are the best). The DVD is English only--the original language for it is English, not Japanese. The voice acting ranges from very good (vampire) to good (D, the girl) to mediocre (the competition). No one is particularly bad here. There are a few problems here. First, the image quality is very soft, with some noticeable pixelation here and there. It looks as if the DVD were mastered from a worn film print. Second, on my system at least (I haven't seen much discussion of this generally), the sound breaks up and crackles (very loudly, even with a low volume setting) at a few points in the movie, including the finale. But, since this doesn't appear to be a widespread problem, I have no trouble highly recommending this disc as an entertaining vampire action movie, just one that is not as technically nice on DVD as I would like.

Summary: Great Sequel
Review: The artwork is amazing compared to the orginial. I am a big fan when it first came out on video (orginial), and i was expecting for more once i finished watching it, and wasn't disappointed when bloodlust was released. The only thing i was didn't particular liked was that most of the voice changed from the orginial series, especially the "Hand", when did it have a texas accent.

Summary: Startling and Sublime, let yourself revel in it!!!!!
Review: I am a great fan of the genre and I owe it in part to the original"Vampire Hunter D". I have to say(the producer has a gun to my head as we speak) that this not only leaves "D" cold(what a stretch", it sets the bench mark higher for the next generation of writers. An enthralling story, masterful aninmation, exquisite voice acting, what a world. It is the perfection of fusion, Horror and Sci_fi not only living together but sharing the rent and grocery bills happily. Even opting to rent a good movie when its their turn.
Talk about the subtleties, talk about the duplicities, talk about whatever "theme" makes you feel intellectual about a good movie that you understand on some primal level-this will leave you speechless. it is wonderful!!!!

Summary: Really good flick
Review: I really prefer this flick better then the first movie, the first was good sept this one is a whole lot better cuz of the lengh, good voice overs for the characters, good animation, and a better story. So if u haven't seen this flick yet go and see it cuz it's awesome one of the best animes to come out on dvd this year so i recomend this to any anime fan or a fan of the original, and also to people who dont watch anime.

Summary: Vampire Hunter D is back with a Vengeance!!
Review: A superior sequel. It leaves it's predecessor in the dust! The animation will leave you in awe, and the story will leave you wanting more! Let's hope it doesn't take them another 17 years to make another sequel. My only complaint about this DVD is that too much of the movie took place during daylight hours. I think it took away from the creepy atmosphere the director was trying to convey. That being said, Vampire Hunter D : Bloodlust will make a welcome addition to any anime or DVD collection.

Summary: Best anime I've ever seen. Period.
Review: This has to be the best anime and best vampire movie I have ever seen. PERIOD!! First off, the animation is just out of this world, it is leaps and bounds ahead of anything I've seen except maybe Ghost in the Shell. It was just so crisp and clean. Second, I have never seen a movie where the music just fit so perfectly. I literally had goose bumps at some parts. Third, the story is great. Now like others have said it does have a few parts that you sorta have to quess on what's happened or how it's happening but it's nothing too major. Fouth, The characters are just great and have real personaltiys and their not just cookie cutter. Now on some of the other reviews people have said how they prefer the japanese voices and that they were dissapointed that they aren't in the movie. Well guys I hate to break it to you but there aren't any japanese voices. The voices for the characters were all done here in the states and the movie was never done in japanese that is why you can't have japanese dubbing. I personally don't think the voices could have been done better, they just fit every chracter. So all of you that don't own this movie go out and buy it right now!!!!!

Summary: Beautiful Art, Engrossing Story
Review: This sequel to the original Vampire Hunter D is a slickly crafted anime masterpiece. From the opening scene to the final, climactic battle, the artwork of this picture is simply beautiful. The backgrounds are very detailed and the characters are drawn with a fine compromise between realism and flamboyance. I do not consider myself a fan of anime, but this film I found truly impressive. Visually, it's very pleasing to look at. But eye candy isn't everything. The story is both complex and engrossing. Unlike many anime films edited and adapted for American TV, Vampire Hunter D is easy to follow, and the characters are well differentiated and multidimensional. The moral lines between good and evil are nicely blurred in this film, giving it a level of ambiguity that will appeal to an adult audience. In addition to the conflicted figure of D himself, the film adds some other interesting characters with their own complexity. The vampire Meier Link, for example, is not the easily pigeon-holed evil vampire. The audience faces the same conflicts as D when it comes to dealing with this enemy. And then there's the woman Leila who wants to exact revenge on vampires for the slaying of her family. Unlike the other vampire hunters in the film, Leila does not blindly shoot and attack without thinking. Thus, she begins to see herself that dealings with vampires are not always black and white. The vampires are a very intriguing and entertaining aspect of the film. They boast varied and comic-book supervillain-like powers, including shapeshifting and shadow morphing. All in all, this is one cool movie. And the behind-the-scenes featurette on the DVD makes it a must-have not only for anime fans, but also for fans of any good horror/adventure flicks.

Summary: I think this is correct...
Review: This is more of a response to one of the reviews I read. The guy gave it 2 stars because it didnt come with his precious japanese vocal track. Normally I'd complain too... except I noticed something. The DVD comes with the trailers for the japanese and the Vietnamese versions. Both, I repeat BOTH of the trailers had clips from the movie in them amd were in english... which means it was MADE in english. The only japanese or vietnamese that was spoken was the parts done by a native narrator like every movie. That's why it doesnt have the japanese dialoge... there never was any. But I could be wrong.
