Summary: Definitely not as good as the original...
Review: I was hoping for more of the old stuff but this movie takes D into a slightly off direction from where he was in the original movie. Instead of the silent hero D is transformed into a mercenary who is only a shadow of his original character. Maybe I am being harsh but I was hoping for something a lot more than I got...

Summary: Great movie!
Review: ... This movie is great, and there's a reason why D's facial expression never changes: it indicates his emotionless personality. The ending wasn't confusing, either; I understood what was going on well enough. The voice acting is the only bad thing about this movie (well, that and Leila), but it's actually much better than most English langauge anime that I've seen. If you liked Ninja Scroll, you'll like this.

Summary: A Perfect Sequel.
Review: A nice sequel for an all time classic anime. Brilliant animation with a great storyline make this an awesome anime altogether. All anime fans owe it to themselves to get this now.

Summary: Awesome!
Review: A sequel that's actually better than the original, how many times does that happen?

Well, this is one of those times. VHD: Bloodlust not only has all the components that made the original VHD good, the storyline is much more mature. The original was mainly about good (humans... and D of course) vs. evil (vampires and other unsavory creepies of the night), even though there was some nice stuff about stratification of the social order, etc, buried neatly away for those--like myself--who have a lot of time to think too much about movies. VHD: Bloodlust also has all that, but it also has a lot of moral ambiguity within the storyline. Throughout the movie, you are constantly wondering where the real evil is, until you near the end and find out the real "baddie" of the movie. Meier Link and Charlotte as the star-crossed lovers defying moral convention in order to stay together are really a great comment on the idea that some good can be found in everyone, and the part where they finally escape the insidious clutches of the Earth's strictly black-and-white/good-and-evil dichotomy on their "trip to the stars" still touches me every time I see it. This movie also gives some good insights into D, who has to be one of the most interestingly-designed heroes in anime.

The animation is absolutely beautiful: so detailed and intricate, fluidly meshed with CGI that you can hardly tell the difference. The musical score is so memorable that I might need to hunt down a cd for it; it is just so nice to listen to. This is one of the few movies that I actually WANT to sit through the whole "behind the scenes: making of" stuff.

All-in-all, I seriously recommend this movie for anyone who loves vampire tales, even if you've never seen an anime before or have tried to avoid the entire genre altogether. This movie is a gorgeous display of what animation can truly be like, and anyone can enjoy it, even those with a horror for "dubbing". But then, the 70-odd 4 and 5 star reviews ahead of mine ought to be enough to prove that this movie is a must-see!

Summary: interesting...
Review: Definitely not what I expected.

Bloodlust centers more around emotional conflict than the mindless slaughter of the undead (which I would have prefered). Bloodlust is by no means bad, however.

The animation is exellent, the fight scenes are intense, and the storyline is compelling. The characters are drawn to seem more real than in the first VHD, and the women are therefore more mature looking (which for some people is not attractive). And although I will hold a grudge against a few select scenes in the movie, overall I enjoyed Bloodlust.

Summary: Not as good as the first But still a Must Have
Review: Vampire Hunter D 1, well lets put it this way first time I watched it I couldn't see what people saw it. I do not buy hype but do look at it when it comes to my opinions.
OK then I decided to watch Vampire Hunter D 1 in subtitles I loved it! then I watched it again in English I LOVED IT! To Me Vampire Hunter D 1 the more I watched it the more I loved it.

Vampire Hunter Bloodlust was a dream come true to me! I waited ever so long to see it, and I wasn't disapointed.
There is only one flaw with this release that they didn't allow the subtitled version to be in it.
Which it should have been if you asked me. But the dubb isn't horrorble anyways.
Vampire Hunter D and Vampire Hunter Bloodline are must owns if you wanna consider yourself an Anime fan.

Summary: Wooden voice acting
Review: Why is every English version of Anime so terrible? On this one - you have no choice but to listen to the English speaking actors - and hoo are they stiff.

The animation is great, the story's a snoozer, and the voice-acting terrible. Rent it first.

Summary: Where's the "professional dialogue" option?
Review: Horrible presentation really can kill great movies. On one hand, the scenery is beautiful, the fight scenes are neato, and the plot actually makes sense for anime. But on the other hand, the character artists seem to be treading water; it's so obvious that this was animated by the same company who made Ninja Scroll that I literally felt like I was watching the same ensemble cast in different roles. The sound is so badly mixed that the dialogue is barely audible, and the sound effects practically blow out your speakers, not that anyone would want to be able to hear the miserable "voice acting" that makes the first Vampire Hunter D sound like Shakespeare by comparison.

Five minutes into the movie I went back to the menu in search of the audio options to try to fix the huge variance; there are none. Then I went looking for the Japanese language track, hoping that it would at least be better balanced and better acted. That's not available either. An anime DVD with no original Japanese dialogue track??? Out of morbid curiosity, I looked through the "special features" that ARE available; they include a "Making of..." video that is nothing more than footage of the AMERICAN voice actors in studio with an ill-fitting "X-treme" soundtrack, a "Fans' Top 10!" section that just replays "the best" 10 scenes from the movie as selected by some random fan-group (exactly as they appear in the movie, but with a giant number in the corner ranking them from #10 to #1), and the ubiquitous "Merchandise" section.

This honestly has to be the worst production I've ever seen on a DVD. Do yourself a favor and pick up a bare-bones, subtitled, Japanese-language version on...Amazon auctions - I promise you you won't be missing a thing.

Summary: Kawajiri creates another spell binding movie
Review: This film was absolutely awesome.

As always with Yoshiaki Kawajiri(the director of Wicked City, Ninja Scroll, and all three episodes of Cyber City Oedo) the art work is simply beautifal and the story has all the harrowing traits of a tragedy as it portrays the eternal vampires that are tired of their never ending existance and the ultimate lonliness of their existance. Action is plenty in this film and the story line is much like that of the PS1 game only with film quality and substance, the visuals also in the film are breath taking and you are instantly taken into the lonely world of Vampire Hunter D.

In brief the story surronds Meir Link an age-old vampire that has fallen in love with a young woman and after he takes her from her father Vampire Hunter D and the Marcus Brothers are hired to rescue her despite her own love for the Vampire. The opening of the film is truely gothic and instantly takes the audience into the dark and morbide world where demons and mutant alike sliver through it like the stretching dimmness of twlight.

This was a brilliant film and I would recommend it to any one that loved Manga. It differs alot to the 1980' film but this is mainly due to the difference in animation. Kawajiri's work is dark and forboding as much as it is lonely and beautifal.

Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust deserves Ten-out-of-ten and it is a gfilm that can take much viewing and still deliver a great expieriance.
