Review: When I first viewed the original Vampire Hunter D
I found myself longing for a sequel. The fact of the matter is Bloodlust isn't just a sequel. It is a CLASSIC... It truely ups the ante for anime with it's breathtaking visuals and captivating story. This is a must see for any anime or movie fan. Well worth the purchase price!

Summary: The lonely hunter returns...
Review: After waiting for this movie for over two years, I was not disappointed! I'd been a huge fan of the previous version, and I was worried the next version was going to be all graphics, and no story. The end result is D is still cool as ever as he fights off various creatures in his pursuit of the vampire Meier Link.Only downside of this one was that the parasite in D's hand is kind of annoying. He wasn't a coward in the last film. Still, he is useful as ever, so he serves a purpose. All in all, this film is a must-see for anime fans!

Review: This is ONE of the best animes (if not the best) ive ever seen!
This ones got it all;
Blood, Action, Awesome characters, a little romance,
vampires, gore, and very nice animation!
Man has animation evolved since 16 years ago when
the first Vampire Hunter D was made!
Lots of gore and violence for everyone!
Any fan will not be disappointed with the sequel
at all!
Actually I enjoyed the sequel more than the first
one!
This sequel has a lot more action than the first!
Hardly even five minutes pass when theres another
amazing action sequence!
And, D, the vampire hunter, gets a lot more talking
parts in this one!
And the best part is, the animation is cleaner and
smoother and crisper!
So fans of the first one will love this sequel!
This is a must-see!

Summary: An Anime Feast
Review: As one of the first anime films I have seen, the original "Vampire Hunter D" is a classic. I knew that this was a perfect candidate for a sequel, and when that day came I was amidst some of the firsts to go and view this sequel. Now, I know that the general rules of sequels is that they cannot be better than the first, well that was one of the best things about "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust" it broke all the rules. The story does not borrow from the first film or has anything to do with it except for the character and setting being the same. In the extremely distant future, vampires and other creatures of the night prowl the world terrorizing the humans that would see them dead. In this world there is D, an extremely capable vampire hunter who is a dunpeal, half-human and half-vampire. He is asked to bring back a human girl who has been kidnapped by the vampire Meier Link back to her family, but he isn't alone. Competing against him are the Markus Brothers, a family of bounty hunters out for the same money. The story is executed in a fashionable way to attract even the hard-pressed of viewers. Basically, the best way to describe it is a "techno gothic western." The characters are well fleshed out, even D, who remains stoic throughout the whole film, is filled with the angst, hatred, and heroic fortitude that can be felt by watching him Now, as you all have heard by now, the animation is completely breath taking. There is no moment in the film where you can't appreciate the finely tuned skills of Madhouse ("Ninja Scroll," "Trigun," and recently "Metropolis"). The sound and voice acting is just as good. Kawajiri-san (director of "Wicked City," "Ninja Scroll," and "X:The TV Series") wrote the film's script in English because let's face it, the film is more Western than Eastern. However, the American voice actors do a good job as their respected characters. Finally, the music, what's there to be said? It's such a beautiful ambiance that only helps to amplify the whole experience of this film. Now, the only flaw I find in this film is how some people find the idea of a vampire hunter passe by now, thanks to "Buffy" and "Blade." However, "Buffy" applies mostly to teenagers who enjoy style. And "Blade" is much too techno to be considered in the same field as "D," despite them both having the "dunpeal" aspect. "D" is a much more honest attempt at the vampire hunter because of how it executes it's ideas. Unlike "Blade's" and "Buffy's" modern look, "D" harkens back to times of old mixing in with new ideas. Thus, making the film more original than most vampire movies in it's little Akira Kurisowa/John Ford style ways. "VHD:Bloodlust" is less of a movie and more of an experience for otakus and non-otakus alike. I suggest this movie to everyone. If you like vampires, anime, westerns, sci-fi, or not, this is worth seeing. In a time when computers are trying to rule everything in film, it's nice to see one film that stands out above the rest. You'll be happy to sink your teeth into this one. -RW

Summary: Excellent Feature
Review: I was totally blown away by the Animation and story line. The music needed to be as charismatic as the first VHD, but it does the trick. This is a must have for Anime and Gothic fans. D seems more sullen and tortued than the first one. This added a nice mysterious touch which leaves his character open to many more adventures and suprises.
After watching it over and over, I found new nuances each time. The original (if there ever was one) japanese track should have been included. The voice over acting was sufficient but had tell tale signs of translation problems, (can you say crouching tiger).The DVD case and cover is pretty cool too. I'm hoping to see more adventures of VHD, keep them coming!

Summary: A Better Sequel than the original, need i say more????????
Review: this film was one of the best (if not the best) anime motion pictures ive seen! the animation is much smoother than the first 1! (Animation has just gotten smoother since the first Vampire Hunter D!) I think this is a little better than the first! So if you enjoyed the first, you will really really really LOVE this one! This is probably the best sequel any movie has ever had in history! Not many movies have sequels that are better! And I liked how each character had their own characteristics to kill! I thought Menge was cool how he killed his enemys by drifting through the shadows! If youve seen the first and liked it, I DEFINETELY RECOMMEND YOU TO GET THIS SEQUEL!

Summary: The Best of the Best Anime!
Review: This is around my tenth anime movie, my first being respectivly, Ninja Scroll. I could go on about how this movie has some of the coolest looking fight scenes ever, and how about-blah blah blah! It's not about features in general, it's about the story! The animation is some of the best I've seen and the blood spurting from open wounds is pretty cool too! But the story, man the story! The story revolves around a dunpeal, a half-human, half vampire. Feared by all, hated by many, he is...Vampire Hunter D!
D has never had a life...he can't. People attack him and cringe from him just because he's half-vampire (They overlook his human side). In the vampire world he is half-human. He hunts his own ancesters so that they will kill no more. He knows this any yet..."When all vampires are gone from this land, they will hunt me and strike me down...",(D speaking). So if you like vampires, then you'll probably dig(like) this!

Summary: Rare: A sequel better than it's prequel
Review: Given the history of sequels, few ever top the original movie. I'll be the first to tell you that in terms of quality and medium the original movie is somewhat cheesy. What makes it good is the story and plot. Given how infrequent a sequel occurs for anime movies I admit I entered this one thinking it was going to be OK, but not near as good as the first one. Sure I saw the trailers for it and it looked good, but how often have I been fooled on that one. From the start the animation and audio are the first things to catch your attention. Unlike it's prequel VHDBL does not disappoint in the media department. Granted, for it's time VHD was a fine piece of work however VHDBL makes it's predecessor look like kindergarten scribble. Stunning computer and traditional animation mix seamlessly into an incredibly detailed and enfolding experience. The animators/director did an incredible job mixing interesting visual effects with camera angles and sweeps. The art style is reminiscent of Ghost in the Shell. Plenty of eye candy for all! Many people dislike anime due to the poor audio and dubbing quality. Often the language translators lose the dialog by translating too literally, and everything comes out cheesy. No fear. The studio sprung for real voice actors (is that the voice of "Friar Tuck" a la Kevin Costner's Robin Hood I hear coming from Lefthand??) and the dialog is more gripping than the original 'D'. 5.1 surround is used to full extent providing a fantastic audio experience! The plot is canned. 'D' is hired to slay a vampire who has kidnapped some guys daughter. On the basic premise it's a simple enough plot, that sounds pretty boring. What makes the story work and keep you riveted is the number of interconnected, and even disconnected subplots that provide mystery, intrigue, and even romance. The character interaction is virtually unmateched compared with most of the other 100+ anime titles I've seen. Of course there is a twist or two on the basic plot that I won't give away. Need I add there is also plenty of action! If you enjoyed the original VHD I guarantee you will not be disappointed with this title. If you have no clue who Vampire Hunter 'D' is, this is a great place to start!

Summary: A nice blend of CG and anime
Review: There have been many movies that have tried to blend cartoons with computer graphics. A majority of these movies depend too much on CG and then allows the CG to outshine what the animators tried so hard to put together. But not BloodLust. This is a perfect blend between the two worlds. The anime can keep up with the CG. This is a plus.
So on to the good stuff, the story. The story is of course about D (the vampire hunter) who has taken a pricey bounty from a rich man to hunt down and stop a vampire who has kidnapped his young daughter. As the movie continues D encounters the vampires minions who of course want to stop D. There is another group of vampire bounty hunters who want this BIG bounty. So it becomes a race at one point in the movie to see who can get the girl/bounty first.
There is a twist in the plot that I don't want to give away but I will say it turns into a love story towards the end. Don't worry fellow amazon buyers it's not too mooshy that it kills the movie, it has plenty of sword action. For those of you who saw the original Vampire hunter D you will NOT be disappointed by this movie.

Review: Vampire Hunter D - Bloodlust will not win any awards. It is just another Japanese Anime that had its 3 seconds of glory and will fade away. Want to get your hands on some classy, collectible Japanese Anime? Get works by Miyazaki Hayao... This is truly for the kids. I have no clue why I bought this title on DVD.
