Summary: Better then the original
Review: A more complex and interesting plot, combined with a larger and more interesting cast, puts Bloodlust a level above the original Vampire Hunter D movie.
Bloodlust is in English, but it isn't, as some reviewers seem to think, dubbed. The first Vampire Hunter D movie was much more popular in the USA then it was in Japan, and the sequal was written in English so that Americans (now the target audience) could understand it (it was later released in Japan with Japanese subtitles. I don't know whether it was ever dubbed).
No matter what anyone else says, the animation and DVD quality were both fine.

Summary: A SEQUEL BETTER THAN THE FIRTS 1
Review: OK,sometimes sequels kill the original. Not this time. Bloodlust is far better than the original. The animation doesn't look like the morning cartoons, is as real as paper can. And the action, my goodness! Yes there are a few things that shouldn't be there, like when D is fighting,that needs working for the next, if there is 1. Apart from that, you see the progress in animation, when you compare it to the original. Is not as bloody as Ninja Scroll (by far,if you compare both ninja Scroll looks like the original Hellraiser), and anyone (no matter how frail the might be), can see the killing, which will please all anime fans. BUY IT! Don't waste time renting it. Is great.

Summary: A Masterpiece
Review: D is back and better than ever! The story, like most animes, has a moral and underlining theme. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is about D , a Dunpeal{half human half vampire}, who is set out to rid the world of vampires and the likes which is ironic but as the story unfolds it gives you a better understanding of why he does what he does. In Bloodlust, D is hired to save Charlotte or kill her depending on her status. Charlotte was "kidnapped" by the vampire Mier Link but was she merely kidnapped or did she leave with Mier upon her own free will? There is also another band of hunters who hate vampires with a vengeance and will do anything to rid the world of the undead plague and don't mind getting a large reward for doing so as well. The major question is can a vampire really have good intentions? If so does he deserve to live? You will find the answers to these questions and many more. Although not a true sequel to the original Vampire Hunter D but is a new vision of a classic masterpiece. With a new story, a slightly different D but with the same code of honor, and a different art style; Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is an awesome addition to any fan of the original or anime fan in general's collection.

Summary: An die hard otaku
Review: this movie was one of the best anime I have ever seen. It is on the level of Akira and Mononoke Hime. Three things make it a great movie. The first was the animation. It is as smooth as silk, and is a great example of what you can do when you combine CCG (cumputer animation) and traditional cel animation. All the characters are also nicely drawn and are all visually appeling. I am tough on visuals too, I walked out on Metropolis becuase I hated the old school astro boy anime style. The next thing that I thought was good was the plot. It was always susspensful, but never left you in that state of what the hell just happend, like in akira. Last but not least, they did a wonderful job on not having quite so violent as the last time. For those of you who love violent anime this may be a downside, but for me who is more intersted in a good plot I think it truly made the movie have more depth.

Review: I saw this at an anime convention and just LOVED IT! The action was was really cool, even if the character devolpment wasn't so great. I recomend this to anyone who loves good anime.

Summary: Not as good as the first . . .
Review: I loved the first "Vampire Hunter D." I'm not a fan of the anime genre, but that movie stood as a good movie on its own merits. The hero was noble. The damsel was capable of kicking some mutant tush. And the villain was undeniably EVIL.Most of what I loved about the first movie is missing from this one. D doesn't seem as noble a character as he did before (though some virtue does shine through). The damsel here is a lovesick puppy who is smitten with the vampire who kidnapped her. And we don't really even know who the real villain is until the end of the movie. Granted, this last point can make for a good plot, but there wasn't enough forshadowing to really make this work. The villain isn't even mentioned until within the last half-hour of the film. The new voice that they got for his hand was a HORRIBLE CHOICE, by the way. The good points of the movie include the awesome musical score and the animation, which is mixed with good computer animation that almost makes some backgrounds look real. I have heard that this movie was actually made in the U.S., making a literal subtitle translation unnecessary. In short, this is a okay movie, but the original is MUCH better.

Summary: A good sequel...maybe better then the original.
Review: Better-than-average anime feature showcases some crackling action segments and a good plot (with echoes of "The Searchers.") The vampire hunter is back, having been hired to retrieve a young woman who has been kidnapped by a vampire. But he has competition on this job from a rogue group of bounty hunters skilled in the extermination of the undead. Add a few plot twists (esp. near the end), some fine direction, eerie music and atmosphere, and fabulous animation (enhanced by some computer generated effects), and this is a very entertaining flick. It defies some anime conventions in its action segments; there are none of the excessive speed lines or distracting light shows that plague some other anime features. Also, the film dares to allow us some sympathy for a vampire. The climax is a bit murky and confusing, but the bittersweet ending is perfectly appropriate. However, the DVD print falls a little short of the quality one expects, but it's still a reasonably decent transfer. Highly recommended to fans of the original, and those who love a good vampire flick.

Summary: Great anime, bad DVD
Review: First off, I love this movie, I saw it in theater when it came out. The charectors are rich, the animation is perfect, and the whole movie is so gothic it will amaze you. The dvd however, will put anger in your heart. The volume is so messed up that you have to reach over and adjust it every scene or so. The problem is the ambient is WAY to loud, and the talking is quiet. I know it seems trite, but the volume just messed up the dvd. go get the vhs-preferably subtitled.

Summary: Great movie, but worst encoding quality ever on a DVD
Review: First of all, this is a great movie, but, the video quality of the DVD is the worst I've ever seen. I don't just mean noise (though there is plenty of that too), I mean that in fast action scenes there are severe block artifacts, even some moderate action is afflicted with this. It looks like they skimped by using a single layer DVD and then reduced the video bitrate to squeeze it into the limited space. When I pay for a movie on DVD, I expect clean video with no noise or artifacts, not somthing that looks like a bootleg internet movie, it's literally so bad that it looks like an AVI that was made from a DVD, not a DVD encoded from the original film. It's hard to believe, but the VHS version in a good player actually looks better than the DVD version. In addition, there is no japanese language track, and the menues looks amaturish (particularly the "hand" pointer). While it's a great movie, I simply can't reccomend buying it. It'll only encourage more shoddy transfers like this, rent it instead.
