Summary: Suprisingly good
Review: I vaguely remember seeing Vampire Hunter D many years ago, and, probably, if left to my own devices, I would not have watched Bloodlust. The first Vampire hunter D came out so long ago that I had completely forgotten about it. Friends of mine raved about it, so I decided to give it a try. The plot kept me interested and the characters were intriguing (that is not to say I like all the characters, but I think they fit their roles in the movie.) The animation and character design is nothing short of superb. In fact, the animation quality almost makes buying the dvd worth it, despite the fact that the sound quality is enough to drive a sane man crazy. The voice acting was quite good, and chances are anime and cartoon fans will recognize several voices from well known series' (Cowboy bebop, Tenchi, Samurai Jack, even the Final Fantasy X game)
A few warnings about this film:
This is a very dark movie. Younger children probably wouldn't be able to handle this film. If you are a parent, I recommend watching it yourself first, then deciding if you think your child is mature enough to handle it.
People new to anime might not want to start with this film. Some elements of this movie are not explained. It would probably be easier if you watched the original Vampire Hunter D first, so that you are familiar with certain quirks.
From what I understand, this movie was animated in Japan, but all sound was developed in the U.S. I do not mean that the movie was dubbed, I mean that the movie is targeted at English-speaking audiences, and hence would not have a Japanese-speaking track. If that is the only reason you buy DVDs, then you are just as well off with the VHS.

Summary: Bloodlust, What A Sequel Really Should Be
Review: It is not often that a sequel is something that truly justifies being related to the original work. Bloodlust takes the mythology created in D and adds to it without spoiling any of the mystery. We still wonder as to D's true motivations. Is he really a hero? Or has his seemingly obvious hatred for vampires and their kin driven him to destroy those with whom his natural inclinations surely lay. D rarely uses the true power that is contained within him. It seems as if he haates even being able to tap into the vast power that is his birthright as Dracula's son. The characters and the world created in the D universe are truly amazing. While set in the same universe, Bloodlust is suffienciently differentiated from the original by a faster pacing and a more revealing storyline. As the characters journey through D's world the viewers learn much more about the complex world which has evolved in that dark future. The production values of the movie capture the original spirit of Vampire Hunter D and can only give rise to a greater appreciation of the moral struggle that must be taking place with D. How can a being like that not go through most of the day without feeling that he has no place in the world that he is helping to create. All in all I can highly recommend Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. I have tried to avoid plot details in this review so as not to spoil the viewing experience for anyone who has not seen this treasure yet.

Summary: An excellent film
Review: This is a great anime. The animation is superb and the actors are wonderful, and who can forget the haunting and horryifieng music?(Especially during the Climax) There are just a few problems. 1) Left Hand is very cowardly compared to his owner D. It's kind of wierd dont you think? 2) Vampires dont bleed! That's why they search for blood, because they have none. Oh well, at least it had some. 3) The castle part is pretty wierd. I had to watch it a couple times before I understood Carmilla killed Mier. 4) The wisecrack Left Hand gives at the end is kind of dumb. But, all in all, it's a very eiree and creepy movie. (I love the begining with the mirror) and if you know me, that's a good thing. Here's a tip, if your like me, bring some very young children to watch it late at night. (Oh the terror! BWAHAHA!)Or, if your not like me, just make sure your mature enough to handle it. -Sincerely

Summary: Hulluva show!
Review: I have always been a fan of Vampire Hunter D, but I couldn't have even hoped to expect what I saw when I finally sat down and watched Bloodlust for the fisrt time last week. I was amazed by the excellent animation, the beautiful anime artwork, and the totally interesting story that Bloodlust had to offer. VHD was the first anime I had ever seen, and that was nearly 8 years ago, but it is still one of my favorites . . . However, "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust" is NOW my all time favorite anime . . . topping even "Akira" and "Ghost in the Shell". If nothing else, just watch it once and see what I mean.

Summary: Beautiful remake of the classic....
Review: I had been waiting for years for a follow-up to my favorite horror anime, "Vampire Hunter D", and it has finally come, looking far better than I expected. The visuals are a mix of the original movie and "Ninja Scroll" (in fact, Yutaka Minowa was the character designer/animation director for both movies), the latter of which being my favorite anime. The music is classic, although not quite as memorable as the original.
However, the two problems I had with the anime are the story and the characters. The story's not bad, just not as good as the original and very predictable. The characters...well, let's just say there's no Regancy (or anyone close). Leila was paper-thin, boring and a worm (what's with the sideburns?), and I was just waiting for her to get killed off. Hand was a huge disappointment, annoying and cowardly; I was really hoping D would cut him off sooner than later. The others were decent; Meier stood out because he was visually well-designed but again, didn't stand out personality-wise.
All in all, I give this DVD a 4.5 (it would be nice if some of these anime DVD's included original character designs); I'd recommend it for any anime fan, if not simply for the visuals, but all in all it's fun to watch. But MAKE SURE to watch the original first.

Summary: A new and refreshing movie about our favorite hero D
Review: Some people seem to think that this is a remake of the original Vampire Hunter D. It is not, this movie has a new story with the same burdened hero. The animation is very different and much more like the newer styles than the original VHD. The story does seem to hold its own and there are still some great fight scenes. I think I might still like the original a little better, but I was not at all disappointed by this movie. If you liked the first one and the animation style of newer movies like Spriggan, then you will enjoy this movie. keep the faith, dEx

Summary: Fantastic!!!!!!
Review: This movie kicks...! Art, music, voices, story, ect. All of these deserve 10 stars. This movie is even better than the first. And sequals always blow ass. But this one has broken that chain. This story always kept me interested. It was paced out perfectly i think. The other thing about it, is that you don't have to see the first "Vampire Hunter D" movie to understand this one. That's why it is so good. I still recomend seeing the first one though. By doing that, you'll have a better grasp on the character D and where he comes from. The digital art in this is also an A+. Normally I don't care too much for it, but in this movie it is great. For any anime fan, this is a must have.

Summary: A new anime classic for the millienium
Review: This is a super sequel to the 1985 cult anime classic " Vampire Hunter D", it continues with "D" who is on a new mission to rescue a young woman from the evil " Mier Link" ( A vampire king more powerful than Magnus Lee) and has some competetion with other Vampire Hunters called " The Markus Brothers". An amazing spectacular and totally great animated Sci-fi Horror fantasy with lots of cool action scenes, beautiful landscapes and great animation. It might become a classic along with " Akira", " Ghost in the Shell", " Ninja Scroll", " Princess Mononoke" and " Professional: Golgo 13".

Summary: Bizarre, but an entertaining anime thriller!
Review: My friend (who absolutely loves anime) told me about this movie a couple of months ago. So, I went to a store and bought it. I finally watched it today. It made me a little queasy and gave me a headache at some points but it was a good movie, none the less. There wasn't much violence but there was a lot of gore, mild language (PG-13 language) and very brief nudity, compare to other anime. This was a movie that is suitable for ages 14+ due to the gory violence. I liked this movie, because of the strong characters and great storyline. My favorite character was D's hand. Bloodlust is rated R for violence/gore by the MPAA.

Review: A word comes to mind when watching Bloodlust: Beautiful. The animation is superb and there's plenty of action. D, A half human/half vampire is hired to rescue a guys daughter from a vampire, simple enough. But, the movie does have plot twists. The violence is on par with the oringal, so don't let the kids see it.
