Summary: You'll never see anything like this
Review: I bought a bootleg copy of End of Evangelion a couple of months ago and read the English script online, so I am qualified to write this review. To make the biggest clarification, episodes 25 & 26 are both about instrumentality yes, but absolutely DO NOT end in the same manner. The outcome for Shinji is DRASTICALLY different, no spoilers. To be honest, the series of Evangelion is the best thing I have ever seen. It's shocking portrayal of humanity and incredible action scenes kept me riveted for months. But, I could not stand episodes 25 & 26. The psychological viewpoints Anno throws on us like the belief that others around us create the image that we call self make me croak. While this may be true, Anno states that if no one else was around, our image of self would dissappear. He also states that we can change our viewpoint on reality and just be happy if we change our perspective. I'm sorry but this is all flawed theory.
End of Evangelion, while maybe being Anno's hate letter to fans, is a much more enjoyable and CLEARLY THOUGHT OUT ending. I bought Death & Rebirth just the other day and I must praise Manga highly for the care they gave my beloved series. Who cares if French and Spanish aren't included, the original Japanese is what the series should be viewed in. Even so, the English voice acting has improved, dare I say. Even Tiffany Grant, the unbearable English voice of Asuka improved to listenable quality. Still, the Japanese voices are far superior.
Without giving away whole plot lines like some reviewers, let's just say you'll want to buy this DVD to see one particular EVA battle. The animation is beautiful and some of the computer added effects are jaw dropping. The only problems I have with the plot is that Anno uses real live video in one of Shinji's mind babbling scenes. I hate when director's meld fantasy with reality. I thought the way in which it was done was distasteful.
Anyway, this movie will not give you closure. In fact, if we set up a web-site and everybody wrote in how they wanted Eva to end, I bet every single person's response would be different. I do consider this movie to be one of the greatest works in not just animation but in entertainment. I will accept this ending, but I wish it never would have ended :).

Summary: The Fate of Destruction is Also the Joy of Rebirth
Review: Starting at the end to the series, we leave Shinji Ikari accepting how he is and that his actions werent useless and he found happiness. Yay happy!! Now we start the movie. If people would just WATCH the movie and LISTEN to it they may actually get it. The movie is not an alternate ending it is a parellel ending, more like a physical ending. The movie starts wright after Shinji kills Karou. Seele attacks NERV in effort to take the EVA units. Gendo knew this would come and he knew that this would affect The Instrumentality Project. So he sent out Asuka to fight them of. Gendo's plan was to use EVA Unit 1 to attack lilith with the Lance of Longinus which would create an Anti-At Field (just like in Second Impact) to end humnity (Third Impact). The Instramentalaty Project. Before he did this he needed to use Rei to unite with Yui and they would become the Adam and Eve of the new earth. However Rei betrays Gendo and choses Shinji to be the new Adam. Rei, Shinji and EVA 1 join together and enter Lilith to create the new world. Shinji becomes the key to the new world, weather people would be given another chance or ended all together. But he needed an Eve. Shinji always secretly desired to be with Asuka, so he asked her to be his companion. Asuka painfully rejected him though, telling him that he doesnt like anyone, not even himself. Shinji becomes enraged because even as he is creating this new world, he feels only pain. Since Shinji has been hurt so much, he believes that nobody wants him. The selfish thought that had been in his mind emerged: "If nobody needs me, everybody should just die". This is contradicted by his belief that he is no good to anyone else, and therefore he is the one that should die. As Lilith was being formed, all of the souls were gathered from Guaf's room. Shinji spoke to his mother. He realized that the real world was not a dream, there is always sadness somewhere, but that there was also always the chance to find happiness. He accepted that his actions were not meaningless as long as there was such hope, and so Asuka accepted him. Shinji and Asuka became the Adam and Eve of the new earth. They woke up on the beach of an ocean of blood spilled by Lilith and Eva in the creation of the new world.

Review: Evangelion was a stunning and suprisingly good series. The last two episodes (25 and 26) were beautifully done and astoundingly deep. Though they were great, they were rejected by most. Enter "End of Eva" to clear things up, or make them even more confusing. "EoE" is not a simple physical version of 25 and 26, rather it is a completely different ending. Things end differently in the series. Go watch the last two eps, then watch this movie. Be warned, this is one of the most disturbing things i've every seen in my entire life. To put it lightly, its gonna drive you nuts. The animation and sound is top-notch. I would expect nothing less of Production IG and Gainax. The commentaries are also very good on this disc. Suggestions: Watch the series, all 26 eps. If not, pick up "Evangelion: Death and Rebirth," which contains a non-linear summary of the series, as well as an Eva encyclopedia. Warning: Contains nudity, violence, and will haunt those who watch it, GARUANTEED.

Summary: This it`s not the end of Evangelion, BUT...
Review: This movie it`s not the true end that Mr.Hideaki Anno desire, BUT it`s the product of the fans that want to see more action in the series, because maybe don`t understand the real message that Mr.Anno told us, or simply if it`s understood, they want to see more action that in episodes 25 & 26. I see this movie, along with Death & Rebirth, and this it`s a true action, episodes 25 & 26 represents more the brain & humanity, & movies the action before the Human Instrumentallity (or Complementallity) Project begin (episodes 25 & 26). My investigations about Mr.Anno it`s that he believe that the series end, it`s final. But the fans desire more action, maybe see Third Impact, and of course, answer more questions about this awesome series. But if you see carefully episode 25, you see a "little spoiler" of this movie, if you see the chronological time, this movie it`s first to this episode, and interesting thing. For me, I take my Perfect Collection from ADV Films (this company are awesome), but Manga Ent.(awesome too) don`t include the French & Spanish versions that ADV includes, but the important version here it`s the Japanese, the English dub it`s very good, but I liked that the French & Spanish they were included, to see this wonderful movie in more languages, & of course to learn a little more of them. I really recommend this movie, but first if you don`t know about the series, see them, or at least the part of Death in Death & Rebirth. Take the Perfect Collection of the series, Death & Rebirth (it`s important to see the part of Rebirth, because it`s the begin of the movie), and this movie: The End of Evangelion.

Summary: COMPLETELY different end...alternate but not quite
Review: Unlike the first review I read, this movie is in fact not the same result as the show. The movie is actually a different way of Shinji reacting to human instrumentality. In the series, he accepts it...with everyone else clapping and joining him. In the movie he rejects it, and instead creates a new reality on earth for himself. You can read all about that in Animerica's reviews of both endings. Anime, not a hobby, but a way of life!

Review: To summarize this movie in one word, it would have to be disturbing.
The series' ending (episode 25&26) shows what is phycologically and emotionally happening to Shinji after the third impact and is the happy side of the ending.
The End of Evangelion is what is physically happening to the world and to the characters before, during, and after the third impact. It is a very confusing, sad ending and contains extremely disturbing images.
It is still an excellent movie and if you own the series, get this! But be warned, the ending is just as confusing as the series' ending. Make sure you go to some discussion forums or explanation sites after watching it so you can get some insight as to what is going on.
It will haunt your dreams for weeks afterward.

Review: The last two episodes, in my own opinion, were done wonderfully though mostly misunderstood. The ending in the series was a window into the chaotic world of the characters own thoughts. Their own emotions and confusion are evident in these episodes and expressed in an abstract train of thought. This film replaces the last two episodes with something more people can relate with other than the odd originals. Fans of the series will enjoy this and those who haven't seen the series, grab the boxed set first and the death/rebirth film before you take a look at this.

Review: I want to start off by saying that those people who thought this movie was bad or just average are... how should I gently insult them?.... Dumb. I am a huge Otaku and I know a good series when I see one. And Eva is one of the best series of all time in my opinion. Episode 25 & 26 is about instrumentation and does not really give the fans any ending to the series. But with Death/Rebirth, you get that ending! Plus, with End Of Eva coming out in Septembet, you get more answers to the series like "Who are the angels?", "What is the second impact?", "Will Asuka ever recover?", etc. Without watching these films you will NOT get those answers. These films are for FANS only. If somebody ordinary watch these films they might enjoy the action scenes, but will not understand anything. So get into the series before you buy these films!

Summary: The birth of true humanity, The End of Evangelion.
Review: Throughout the series of "Neon Genesis Evangelion", We were lead through a fantastic universe of possibility and exploration into the true meaning of existance. Though the final two episodes ended poorly, I believe this feature easily makes up for any flaw. "The End of Evangelion" takes us into the story directly after the final episode of the series. Although one shouldn't buy this as a stand alone movie, they should at least consider also purchasing "Death and Rebirth" which essentaily recaps the entire TV series in Movie form. "The End of Evangelion" continues the story of the "Human Instrumentality Project" by going into depth of the true motives of Gendou Ikari, NERV, and the secretive organization known as SEELE. The movie is packed with action from the very beginning, and seeps into a somber tone, delving into the psychological aspects of the events taking place. A MUST BUY for ANY anime fan, and if you're a fan of the "Neon Genesis Evangelion" series, you'd be daft not to purchase this.

Summary: approach with caution
Review: You probably either love or hate episodes 25 and 26 of the show-- there's little middle ground. Personally I take the latter viewpoint, so I approached the movie with caution. Actually I saw it on a borrowed fan-sub, which was probably a good thing since I came away disappointed. It's not that I totally hated this movie-- it's certainly more entertaining than the final two episodes-- but there's really nothing new here. If you hated the final episodes and you want this movie for a slightly more normal ending, then stay away. The first part starts kind of like a regular episode with lots of fighting, but it seems to lack any sense of build-up or emotion (the fighting is pretty cool). The second part is sort of like the last two episodes except not quite as boring (more action). It still seems mostly nonsensical or off the plot subject, though. The religious symbolism is heavier than ever before here, and I never really got the impression that it was part of the show at all. On a more technical note, the animation and artwork are good-- whether or not you like the movie this probably won't disappoint.
I guess some people are just attuned to love this kind of anime. I'm not one of them, and if you hated the last two episodes there's no way you'll enjoy this. However if you loved those episodes (or even just thought they had something going), if you loved the religious symbolism, then you should definitely consider this movie.
