Summary: blue gender review
Review: Anime written in 99' with Yuji kaido(sp) being frozen for twenty years due to an uncurable illness called the B-cells. He wakes up to find himself being moved by huge metal objects, later he finds out they are called armoured shrites(sp)piloted by humans from second earth. The blue are bugs that have been created from the earth to clense it, get the population to smaller numbers. yuji changes throughout the story with Marlene Angel also switching positions with yuji(role reversal) from cold hearted to carring. There is awesome plot twists throughout the story and suprises everywhere.

Summary: You can't stop watching...
Review: Blue Gender intrigued me when I caught a few episodes on Adult Swim, enough to buy the set. And it's quite an adventure. The animation ranges from stunning to just okay, but the story arc is riveting and very powerful. The box set is the way to go, because if you miss an episode, you miss a major part of the plot. And there are some wonderfully enexpected twists. Yuji Kaido, awoken from an illness-induced cryogenic sleep to a world gone mad, and Marlene Angel, the seemingly emotionless perfect soldier, are the central characters. Over the course of the series they undergo remarkable growth, discovering their own strengths and limitations, and of course learning to care about each other. It is a harsh, bitter environment these people inhabit. Other characters come and go. Many die shocking, horrible deaths. But Marlene and Yuji are the heart, soul and emotional core in this story of giant mutated insects and armored mech suits. The English dub is quite good, although Yuji's helpless whining when he is first awoken does get irritating. The orchestral score is terrific, perfectly capturing the suspense and drama playing out on screen. At times the music and sound effects are positively chilling. The DVDs do contain some sexual situations and graphic gore that was cut from the Cartoon Network broadcast. Overall, Blue Gender is a strong series. But be forewarned, once you are caught up in the story, you may not be able to stop watching.

Summary: Blue Gender is a must have series for the mature audience
Review: Blue Gender is considered sometimes to be one of those 'silent hits'. It's a great series, but doesn't have a huge group to appeal too. It's a great anime series meant for the mature anime audience. It's also been joked about how it has some similarities to Starship Troopers, although I doubt it was intentional.

Blue Gender follows the characters Yuji Kaido and Marlene Angel. Yuji is a young man who was put on ice in 2007 because of an illness, then wakes up in 2031 to find the world infested by the Blue, insect like creatures. Marlene is a soldier from a space station called Second Earth, who was sent to retrieve him. This sets the stage for action, sadness, drama, the whole 9 yards. However, this series lacks comedy, as it wasn't meant to have it. Blue Gender is a dark and bloody series, with many tragic and sad moments to make the audience feel for the characters.

This is an excellent series, the characters are well developed, the animation is great and consistant, and it makes you think. Blue Gender shouldn't be underestimated for not being as wide spread as other animes (Such as Mobile Suit Gundam or Dragon Ball), but this series packs alot of punch. However, it should be noted that this series also doesn't shy away from fanservice, as there is a quite a bit of it. However, it's fairly kept under control.

If you're a mature anime fan who wants a great series that is dark, Blue Gender is the one for you! Don't get this if you're young(It's meant for 15 and above, which isn't an understatement) or faint of heart. There is alot of tragedy and sadness, but it helps progress the story to a great ending.

If you want to get all of Blue Gender in one shot, go for the DVD set if you can, it saves yout time and money, as you get it all in one package. It's cheaper in the long run(Compared to buying each DVD separately), and saves time as you get all the DVDs at once.

Five out of five stars in my book, Blue Gender gets my thumbs up!

Review: Blue Gender is one of the better anthology series to come along in a while. Though the quality of the animation is not on the same level as 'Cowboy Bebop', the story definitely keeps you interested.

I like the way the story developes the central characters, Marlene and Yuji. Marlene is introduced to us as a somewhat cold and emotionally hardened woman. Yuji is introduced to us a the awakened Sleeper, shocked and horrified to the world which he has been awakened to. A world where the Blue dominate the planet and have considered Mankind an infestation; and the surviving humans that live are considered 'already dead' by the military. A concept that Yuji considers unacceptable; and he tries to convince Marlene of that. Marlene and Yuji's initial adventures are packed with action and tragedy. Characters we're introduced to early on are systematically falling to the enemy Blue. You come to understand quickly that this is a war and the stakes are "Win or Die". But through all the sadness, a Love story develops between Yuji and Marlene. Always a nice touch to any war story. Yuji and Marlene go through Hell and back in an effort to take back the planet from the Blue. Blue Gender is an excellent story. Worth watching.

Summary: Blue Gender
Review: Blue Gender seems like an interesting and exciting anime. After hearing what the anime was about, I was excited to see it! After the first few episodes I thought the show was going to be good. This show was slower paced than a snail in molasses. The main character was whiny, the writing and voice acting was subpar. The writing was chock full of cliche's. (The government is mean, soldiers say "you don't know what it is like down there", etc.) The show was just too boring. I hate whiny characters, with the exception of Neon Genesis Evangelion, those characters were extremely well developed and deep, so the whiny characters were tolerable. I really dislike the character design, the main character has hideous mutton chops, and the main female character looks as if she has a yellow jellyfish on her head. The animation was too bright for this type of story. The show lacked humor almost completely. Even the most sad, dramatic animes have humor now and then. (Evangelion)
If you can see it on T.V. check it out, but don't spend money on this anime, buy something better

Reading some of the other reviews I seriously wonder whether or not I watched the same anime as everyone else. I made it a personal goal to see this whole anime, just for the hopes that it would turn out better, but this anime is just terrible, I give it a 1 rating because I wish I could have back the time I wasted watching this anime

SERIOUSLY, WATCH IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT!!!!!!!

Summary: Be cautious
Review: Everywhere you go to find reviews about Blue Gender you will find reviews that say it is amazing, 5 stars, greatly orignal and highly mature in theme... I for one, do not understand these reviews in the least.

My boyfriend bought this boxset after we read some reviews for it saying that it was absolutely magnificent, the best of the best and we looked forward to watching it when we had the time... It's sad when you spend your money on something like this and it totally bums you out. We both watched the entire series and agreed that it was sub-par (just a note: we watched it in Japanese with subtitles). While there are some "mature themes" such as blatant sex scenes (which seemed only "shock-value"-like)and um... "emotional drama" if that's what it was supposed to be, and um... the Blues' bug faces look a lot like female genitalia, which I'm surprised isn't mentioned more -- I mean, you hear a lot about when something is clearly phallic in symbolism, but nowhere else in any professional review did I read about this odd choice for the Blues' look (someone else mentions it here though). Really... it isn't even subtle enough to call it symbolism really, it's a big vagina on a bug's face (although near the end of the series the Blue lose this look a little). Not to say this kind of imagery makes it bad or is bad in itself (it didn't upset us, but I'm sure how you can see that it's definately note-worthy), but it's sure weird to just see on the face of a bug in any anime or... well, any THING.

Despite all these things which people may find cool in this series, we couldn't help but feel the series was totally dull, unexciting, and just... bad, a waste of the 536 minutes of it we had to sit through and the $100+ we spent to get this set. We sat through each episode hoping, believing, lying to ourselves that it would get better, that the plot would develop suddenly and that it was just one of those series that starts slowly... No, it's just one of those series that stay that way all the way through. The lead character is highly annoying -- the "humanity" the creators tried to instill in him just makes him seem bratty and makes me want to bang my head against a table. Sure, he goes through a lot, uh-huh the situation would be hard to handle -- I understand these things, but to me he just seems so... dumb. He does a lot of dumb things. His bad situation doesn't justify his lack of brains in my opinion unless the creators just failed to mention that the stasis he was put under made half of his brain disintigrate. As for the other characters, they are somewhat stereotypical, annoying, or they just have no character at all -- cardboard cut-outs of what could be 3 dimensional, well developed and memorable characters.

The ending of the series is the only part we found in the least acceptable. Near the end they decide to just bust out some plot that seems well-timed and ok. This does not say however that the ending is a "satisfaction" to watching the entire series (I'm sure some find it totally unsatisfactory after liking the entire show), and it does not say that it isn't kind of odd and perhaps even a total turn-off for some. But plot! Plot people, that's what we're talking about! Not just simply some general idea that sounds good, good plot presentation of those very ideas for once! Some finally showed up, but a little too late.

We felt that had they done the series in 6 or maybe 13 episodes instead it could have been better. With the plot compressed into a shorter time it could have a better effect and may even prove to provide some sort of genuine entertainment. It did not need to be as long as it is. The animation isn't exactly steller either, for all of those of you looking for eye candy if not good story. The typical tale of an apocalyptic earth w/ sci-fi action and fighting and emotional struggle has been done well in other anime, movies, books, etc. You could say that Evangelion (which I see Blue Gender compared to a lot for some reason, wincingly) had the same sort of themes, and although I definately do not say that Evangelion is the best anime out there as some spout off without hesitation, I definately have to say that it is 10 times better than Blue Gender, it actually gives a new spin on the kind of ideas it presents, it animation is generally good, the plotline is generally entertaining... and it didn't waste my time watching it! I usually don't say to go watch Evangelion because no one usually needs any outside force to want to go watch it and it's such a overused recommendation, but I will say it here: Watch it instead of Blue Gender if you must watch something in any way like this. The way this type of story was presented in Blue Gender does not please us in the least. I beg of you, if you decide to buy this series, PLEASE watch some of it first... borrow it, wait for reruns on Cartoon Network, rent it, ANYTHING, just don't waste your money like we did on something you have only heard hype-talk about. If you watched this series -- in whole or in part -- and you liked it, buy it. I'm sure what you saw will be more of the same in this set.

Unfortunately a good friend of ours told us too late that this series was "not his kind of thing" to put it lightly (not that you can really trust reviews totally, based on the wealth of positive reviews you find on Blue Gender indicated to us). I wish he had told us sooner. I've never written a review here before, but whenever I see a 5 star review of Blue Gender I become absolutely puzzled and outraged. I hope I help some of you out.

And why 2 stars instead of 1? It was more than 1 star which would be similar to a blank DVD being sold to me under the guise of actual content, but below 3 for definate below average-ness.

Summary: Awsome exciting anime!... no just dull
Review: Giant bugs, futuristic mecha, guns, sci-fi stuff cool. That may be the first impression any one who has never seen a decent anime title may have felt when they saw this. The problem with this it is a mediocre story with decent action absolutely mutilated by terrible characters! The main character whines non-stop, and all the others are about as deep as filter paper. The desperate attempt at some original plot at the end is laughable and pathetic, I just feel sorry for the poor animators who spent countless hours on this crap.

Summary: Buy this boxed set immediately
Review: Hi Everyone! This boxed set is not for the squeamish. If you're looking for blood, gore, and extreme action, then this boxed set is for you. The anime in my opinion is great and has a very good plot to it. I've watched this series every weekend since I bought it. You really get attached to the characters, and feel bad when they come to their end. But every character in this boxed set is a warrior in my opinion and fights to the bitter end. This series really makes you think. Just imagine going to sleep and waking up years later to find out the world you lived in is no more and every insect that you've ever known is a thousand-fold in size, and your species, supposedly the dominant species, is on the brink of extinction. I don't know how I'd cope in a world like that, knowing that you quite possibly could end up being a creatures dinner, and with no remorse. These creatures are not some bugs that you can kill easily, and they just keep on evolving, so the characters have to try to find different ways of stopping them. This series kind of reminds me of RoboTech and Gundam Wing, with the mechanical warriors that are used, but with much more blood and is uncut.

I also purchased the Blue Gender's movie "The Warrior". By watching the boxed set first, I came to appreciate the plot and characters much more intensely then the movie portrayed. In my opinion, this is one of the best anime series i've ever had the honour of coming across. I'd recommend this to everyone who are 15+. It's kind of like Starship Troopers, and possibly was the reason that Starship Troopers was made in the first place. I can't seem to put this thing down. All I can say is, buy it as soon as possible.

I don't want to say too much, in regards to the plot. It's best that you witness this boxed set for yourself as I did, to see the twists and turns, and the evolvement of Yugi and others like him. Buy this now!! Peace!

Summary: Hmmph, never though I'd get interested in this one
Review: I tried to avoid this with a passion but eventually I actually did watch it. I reacted to it at first much like the Marlene reacted to Yuji, and convinced myself that I didn't really want to watch this show, I was just bored and had nothing else to watch. But now I've dedcided upon it anyway. Ok, it involves this guy named Yuji Kaido, who has some rare disease, and he wakes up to this world where these critters called Blue have taken over. They're called the Blue because this is their basic form, a bluish beetle thing, and they envolve into various forms, like this flying one, an armored one, and there's even one that burrows underground. It's good if you like mecha shows, but even if you don't (like me), try it. You might decide you like it after convincing yourself that you don't.
