Summary: It's only missing one thing...
Review: Finally, the whole OVA series 1 and 2 in one box!

BUT WAIT! It's missing something! Yes... the Mihoshi Special (a fun and totally non-canon romp through the world of Tenchi) wasn't included in this OVA set. Also, the new version of Washu's Encyclopedia seems a tad dry.

-- Otherwise, I can't recomend the series more!

The OVA is the best series of all Tenchi, including Universe and Shin. This is where it all started...

Ryoko is no longer an irritable Space Pirate, Ayeka has much more depth, Sasami is her cute old self (but quite a bit wiser!) and Washu (excuse me, LITTLE Washu) is finally back to her pure form... as the greatest scientific genius in the Universe who *doesn't* blow everything up. Perhaps the biggest and the best change is from dunderhead and obnoxious Mihoshi to the sweet and lovable (but incredibly unlucky... or IS she lucky?!) Mihoshi that we members of KOME love to represent.

In fact... the only one who didn't change is Tenchi ^_-

--

This is a must have for any anime fan... see what Cartoon Network DIDN'T show!

Summary: My Tenchi Muyo! review
Review: This is my favorite of the three series. It has more comedy than the others. It starts out with Tenchi meeting Ryoko in a comical way. Then, Ayeka and Sasami, who are after Ryoko come into the scene. Mihoshi comes next, then Washu. The DVD version is worth $100. It should be rated a little bit higher because of the nudity of Ryoko and ayeka. The third disk is great. It has trailers for the movies and the series. It has the actor that played Sakuya from Tenchi in Tokyo (which I did not like except for the episode Ryokos big date). It has an interview and two music videos by her. It also has the first six comics(I could not read them). The second disk has an episode that they do not show on Toonami. Here Comes Jurai part 2. It is mostly a clip show with Washu and Mihoshi talking about Dr. Clay and Zero. Then It goes to Lady Tokimi and then back to Ryoko(who is in Washus lab) crying mom, moomy ect. Then It ends... but there is more. They are continuing the sereis for the next episodes which is really good news for us Tenchi Fans. I recommend it for those who have only seen the Toonami version. *WARNING* It Does not have the Mihoshi Special. You can only get to see it by buying the oav VHS tape that has the Ryo-oki special The night before the Carnival. So be warned

Summary: Totally Awesome!!
Review: The Tenchi Muyo! series is my all time favorite anime series. For those who are familiar with the Tenchi Universe series, this series doesn't have a diffinitive end and has the feel of being unfinished. Just recently the creator of all the Tenchi series confirmed that a third OVA series (this collection is series one and two) is currently in the making and should be released in Japan in a year or two meaning it will be here in two to three years. If it is anything like this one it will be worth the wait.

Summary: tenchi is just tooooooo sweeeeeeeeeet!
Review: The tenchi dvd set is surpurb. The charactures are well done. My favorite characture would have to be the cunning yet beutiful space pirate Ryoko. She was inprisoned in a cave by the Jurei prince Yosho. After 700 LONG years she was set free accidently by Tenchi Muyo the star of the show! She at first tries to get tenchie's sword but soon decides about trying to sedue tenchi. Her archrival Ayeka then accidently lands on earth and of course gets in a fight with Ryoko. Ayeka is the princess of Jurei she is the sister of Yosho. She has been looking for him when he had left earth to battle Ryoko. This soon involves other charactures such as the MAD scientist Washu who is actually Ryoko's mom! We then have two Galaxy police officers the airhead Mihoshi who can't do anything right and officer Kyonei who is Mihoshi'es partner. Then we have the smaller heir to the throne of Jurei is the cute one opposite of her sister Ayeka the adorable Sasami. The evil villion kagato the man who forced Ryoko to do his bidding. Then we have Yosho who is Tenche's grandfather. Last but certainly not least the cute pet of Sasamie's the lovable pet of Sasamie's the cabbit Ryookie also the ship of Ryoko's. There is love, a bit of action, comedy, and a great storyline in this must see anime Tenchi Muyo. It has a little nudity but nothing bad but no sex.The last thing I would like to point out is that Ryoko and Ayeka fight all the time about who gets Tenchi and whatnot. Sefinaly an excellent series and it's uncut.Unlike Toonamie's series of Tenchi. See you later

Summary: Very Silly at times, but well worth viewing.
Review: It's not "great" anime as some of the reviewers would have you believe. But it is better than the cheapo-Sabanesque anime that seems to be flooding the airwaves nowadays. The animation is not very detailed but there are some nice uses of colors and textures that are pleasing to they eye. The story itself is fairly entertaining, about a boy whose life gets turned upside down by a space pirate and her "friends". It is not deeply engrossing but it is fun to watch.

Summary: The best place to start with the Tenchi saga.
Review: This was the first and most basic of the Tenchi creations, an OVA that introduced all the main character, set up their relationships with each other, and left us convulsing in a twisted heap on the floor. Okay -- there are actually a lot of people who don't find this the funniest of anime, but I confess that "Tenchi Muyo!" (which either reads "No Need for Tenchi!" or "This End Up!" depending on how you choose to read it) breaks me up. In the time since its creation, it's become a staple, not only because of the staggering number of spinoffs it's spawned, but because it serves as a textbook example of how anime often manages to be utterly absurd and sublimely insightful at the same time. Slapstick gags and balls-to-the-wall fighting share elbow room with fairly involved relationships in this series.

The plot is actually somewhat superfluous, since most of the story is about the way different characters with strikingly different goals rub elbows when forced to share close quarters. It's also a deliberate melange of influences: the family sword is straight out of "Star Wars," the guardians are reminiscent of the monolith in "2001," and so on. Yet nothing in the story screams "RIPOFF!" -- it all manages to be its own supremely oddball animal.

What plot there is isn't actually all that complicated; it just gets more Byzantine later on. Young Masaki Tenchi accidentally unleashes a "demon" from the family shrine, Ryoko -- a demon which turns out to be a space pirate who's spent the last 700-odd years in suspended animation. From there on out, things just snowball like crazy as a whole horde of characters who either want something from Ryoko, something from Tenchi, or something from both of them descend on Tenchi's household.

For any serious anime buff, this is probably a must, and proof that a "roots" lesson in anime need not always be solemn.

Summary: An Absolute Great Buy!
Review: Simply put, this Tenchi Muyo! box set is well worth its pricey $100 price tag. I was very impressed with the DVD's unique packaging design that's striking and overall beautiful. The entire series is packed into 2 DVDs (400+ minutes) and includes a special features disc which includes character bios, trailers, and more. In a technical standpoint, I never had any trouble playing the discs and the sound quality is just fine. The picture quality had no problems either. The English voice-overs did a great job capturng the characters' essence and personality, however I did notice a couple of out-of-sync parts, but no harm. What's interesting is the fact taht there's two versions of the English subtitle: one for the direct Japaneese translation, and one for the hearing impaired, which translates the English dub. Pretty cool. But what makes Tenchi Muyo! (this box set) so great is the well-written, character-driven storyline. This is one of the few anime titles that don't depend on big fight scenes or cool robot mechs or slapstick. Tenchi Muyo! is well-balanced meaning it doesn't get too serious and doesn't get too silly. After watching the first episode, I got hooked. The characters are so well-written even the villanist bad guys are brilliant. If you're any type of anime fan, or want to get your first anime, I can't recommend anything better than the Tenchi Muyo! OVA Box Set.
