Summary: Tenchi Muyo OAV
Review: Tenchi Muyo. Some of you may have seen this Anime before, be it on international channel, Cartoon Network, or maybe downloaded it off the web. This may be your first time hearing about Tenchi and decided to stumble upon it while searching for something else. Before I give my review I'll give you a quick summary of the series. Tenchi is a young boy who mistakenly releases a demon from a cave where she was trapped for more than 700 years. You later find out that she is in actuality a space pirate who is wanted by two alien princess and a galaxy police officer. Soon the awarness of Tenchi is caught by 2 special girls, Ryoko (Demon, space pirate) and Ayeka (Alien Princess). Many exciting mysterious adventures and wacky tales ensue around this DVD. The OAV is by far the best Tenchi series as it brings laughter, joy, and sadness. The DVD comes with an encyclopedia that you can use to view Tenchi information you might have. And quality sound that puts you right in the screen. Anime, It all started with Tenchi. This anime from Pioneer was acclaimed by all fans and groups of all age and race.

Summary: The best of the Tenchi series
Review: This is the best of the 3 Tenchi series, the story line is good and the characters are not as corny as in the other 2 series. Tenchis uncle also serves a better purpose in this one. This is the most serious of the three, no distorted expressions on the characters faces, no dumb stuff in this one. The episode are all longer too. If you want to start watching Tenchi this is the one to start and finish with.

Summary: Very good but with one problem though...
Review: I have one problem with this set. It does not include the special 14th episode. Although this was not aired in america would it of hurt to have put it on the DVD? I have dial-up so if I want to see that episode I`ll have to spend hours downloading it. Damn.

Summary: Great Tenchi Episodes. A must buy...
Review: I like to have a little bit of humor in the anime that I watch. I am an avid anime fan who watches several high action, heavy story anime series'. Anime like Gundam, Rurouni Kenshin, and Neon Genesis Evangelion are only a great few of the many series sets that I like to watch. I came across Tenchi Muyo through the first movie done for the series. Once I saw these OVA's, I became much more attached to this series.

These OVA episodes are extremely good. They combine some serious elements, science fiction elements, fantasy elements, and a whole lot of comedic elements (especially between Ryoko and Ayeka). I especially like this anime because of the multiple characters and, in a lot of ways, how their personalities clash. Not to mention the constant fights over Tenchi himself. In the other Tenchi episodes after these OVA's, everything changes to an extent (like Washu not being as involved in the fight over Tenchi). These early episodes are very worthy of a look over from anime fans of all kinds.

Summary: Having seen all the Tenchi series, this is the best
Review: It has equal mixes of comedy, action, character development, and plot. It's too bad there is only 13 episodes and they leave you hanging on a dangling plot thread (URGH!). Still, it does not diminish this series in the least, and it is a must for any Tenchi fan.

Summary: The First Collection in the Tenchi Saga
Review: The Tenchi Muyo! DVD Box Set is a tremendous collection. The first series in the Tenchi Saga, "Tenchi Muyo! OVA" isn't the most logically progressing series, but it does introduce us to a set of unforgettable characters and situations that are the essence of comic anime. This DVD set includes the 13 episodes of "Tenchi Muyo!" on two discs, with a third disc containing a wealth of information covering the entire Tenchi Saga - "Tenchi Muyo!," "Tenchi Universe," "Tenchi in Tokyo," and the three movies that followed. This is a great set for anyone who was introduced to Tenchi and his clique, as I was, by Toonami, and is looking for the complete and unedited phenomenon.

"Tenchi Muyo!" begins with Tenchi Masaki, a teenage boy, and his grandfather discussing a sealed cave adjoining the Masaki Shrine, a small secluded Shinto shrine in Okayama, Japan. Tenchi manages to wrest the key from his grandfather, and despite warnings from the time of his youth, Tenchi opens the cave. In his exploration, he releases a 'demon' who has been locked in the cave for 700 years. Meet one of the most honest, unrestrained women in animation, the space pirate Ryoko. Tenchi is flabbergasted to find the destructive and emotionally unstable Ryoko has decided to move into his house. These two are shortly joined by Ayeka, the haughty princess of the planet Jurai, and her adorable little sister Sasami. As the series enters its fourth and fifth episodes, we are introduced to the hapless Galaxy Police detective Mihoshi, and finally, the number one genius scientist in the universe, Little Washu. The characters who form the core of the Tenchi Saga are, for the most part, present and accounted for.

For me, the absolute highlights of "Tenchi Muyo!" are episodes 6, 7, and 8, "We Need Tenchi," "The Night Before the Carnival," and "Hello Baby." These three consecutive episodes contain all the elements that constitute quality Tenchi animation. In episode 6, we get the drama of succession that challenges Tenchi in each of the three series, wherein he learns of his origins and must grasp the future. In episode 7, we get something perhaps even more important, the contentious relationship between Ryoko and Ayeka, who battle incessantly for Tenchi's affections. This particular episode has always stood out for me as an hilarious classic because they play out this battle using the examples set forth by what are basically romance novels. Episode 8 is one of those which takes one of the women living with Tenchi and does a thorough and deeply-felt examination of her character and history. This time it is Little Washu who finds herself taking care of a small infant. As I said, these are just three episodes, but they epitomize for me some of the enduring facets of the Tenchi Saga.

The Tenchi Saga for me has always seemed to center around three principle themes: acceptance, forgiveness, and inclusion. While it may seem initially odd (or a male fantasy) for a teenage boy to live with a bunch of appealing women from outer space, as we learn about all of them, we see that there is something much more profound going on. Three of the main characters, Ryoko (a criminal), Ayeka (whose sense of self-importance is seemingly unlimited), and Washu (an imprisoned mad scientist), are all taken in by Tenchi, his father and grandfather without question and without judgment on their past. The influence this exerts on the development of these characters, on Tenchi himself, and by proxy, on the audience is one of the remarkable feats of each series.

Though incomplete (for now at least), "Tenchi Muyo!" is the best place to begin one's association with the Masaki family. The extras in this DVD set are somewhat random, but inclusive of all the Tenchi series and the movies, including a commercial for a Ryo-Ohki doll, and interviews with the young woman who voiced Sakuya in "Tenchi in Tokyo". There are also a large number of textual and visual sketches that are informative and entertaining. All in all, a comprehensive DVD box set. While I would rank both "Universe" and "Tokyo" as series (because they are complete) above "Tenchi Muyo!," "Muyo!" is where it all begins.

Summary: Tenchi Freak Show(-_-)I mean Tenchi Muyo
Review: I've always liked the Tenchi series, but the Tenchi in Toyko gets to lovey dovey, and then there's Tenchi Universe which I think is the best and then there's this series the first.Toonami did a good job recreating this but it's better like it is now in this virsion. The title needs some explaining so I'll say why I call this Tenchi Freak Show. That's the name I give this anime because it's about a guy named Tenchi and a bounch of freak show girls after him in a show.It makes since to me and it sounds right.I like this series because it doesn't really have any type of porpose to it besides trying to win Tenchi's heart. There's only 13 episodes here but that's all it needs.A comedy with an odd type of love, action, fighting, expressed feelings and this anime has got it all. Each character falls to earth a different way and you really get into the characters. It's great and Ryoko is so cool!.Ryoko's my favorite character.Everyone has a favorite and this is just the beginning. You should watch this filled with adventures, love, comedy and fun.

Summary: Tenchi Muyo OVA DVD Set
Review: I completely love this DVD! If you are a Tenchi fan it is a must-have! The animation is wonderful, the story lines are so interesting and exciting and the characters are the best! I love Ryoko she is the best in this series! If you are into anime and action packed romance/comedies then you will love this series! When I bought this I was fairly new to Anime and was just fascinated by it. It was unlike anything I have ever watched. The best thing about this series is....everything!
Also if you have only seen the edited Toonami version you HAVE to see this version they cut so much out of it that has no reason being cut. I mean I can understand editing the nudity because kids watch Toonami but they cut scenes that have nothing wrong with them! Anyway get this DVD even if you have never seen anime ( this was one of the first anime series I ever saw and is what got me hooked on Anime.) I just know you will fall in love with it like I have!
