Review: not too many things that will keep a family with four boys (ranging in age from 3-years to 18-years, plus dad'd be a fifth boy...) entertained, but this does the trick. the little one especially enjoys spinning those heads!

Review: --Bart Simpson in Sunday school class on the subject of Hell. As a big Simpsons fan, I am very happy entire seasons are coming out on DVD and I will no longer have to dig through my video tapes searching for that one episode I crave. Watching these second season episodes, however, makes me realize how much better this series will get. Some of these episodes are sugary sweet. They make gentle fun at society without the biting sarcasm of later shows that made this series the best on television. Marge is almost insipid in the way she makes Homer feel better about himself. Only in episodes like "Dead Putting Society" does Homer's dopey sarcasm come through ("Remember what Vince Lombardi said, if you lose, you're out of the family!"). In the first two seasons he usually was the dim but well-meaning father trying to provide a better life for his family and, let's face it, that is not as entertaining as the bumbling idiot of later seasons. Lisa's self-righteousness is more moralistic than political in the earlier episodes. The Lisa who would emphatically deride the winged "angel" skeleton she found during an archeological excavation would not take the religious line Lisa did in "Homer vs. Lisa and the 8th Commandment." And who is more entertaining: corrupt womanizing Mayor Diamond Joe Quimby with the Kennedy accent or sickening sweet Governor Mary Bailey from "Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish"? Still, there are some excellent shows on this set ("Bart the Daredevil," "Itchy and Scratchy vs. Marge," "The Way We Was" which shows Marge and Homer in high school, "Three Men and a Comic Book," etc.) but one can really see how the Simpsons characters changed since these earlier episodes. The best is yet to come.

Summary: Even better than the first season
Review: The Simpsons Second Season is funnier, better and has more episodes than the first.Again, like the first season, the second season also has optional commentary by the makers of the show. As another extra, it features two music videos, including "Do the Bartman", and "Deep, Deep Trouble". Compared with the first season, the second season is much greater. If you like the first season, then you'll love the second one. Don't forget about the third one either.

Summary: Horrid DVD design kills excellent episodes
Review: this is one of the worst DVD sets i've encountered. First it has a stupid little game you mus play to get to the episodes. Then there is know way to watch all episodes in sequence, after each one you must deal with the horrid tedious interface. Very frustrating. Still as you know, all but a couple of these eposodes are classics, but whoever designed the DVD should be fired... what a pain!

Summary: The best show ever - ON DVD!
Review: Well, boys and girls, here it is: Our Favorite Family's 2nd Season, on DVD. Everybody knows the Simpsons; they aren't just part of American pop culture, they ARE American pop culture. The Simpsons are the first to venture into Season 15 (which they are doing this fall), and now we have all of our favorite classic episodes from Season 2 to watch whenever we want. Whether you want to see Bart kissing Mrs. Krabappel, Homer getting stuck in the H2WHOA waterslide, or the classic scene where Homer *almost* jumps Springfield Gorge with Bart's skateboard, it's all on this set. Also included is the two videos: "Do the Bartman" and "Deep Deep Trouble". Great stuff. In closing, this is an EXCELLENT DVD box set and it's obvious everyone needs to have this. Best...show...ever.

Summary: A Good Season
Review: I really liked this season better over the first. The animation, sound, and episode plots are better, and there are a lot more episodes to choose from. You can see how the animation starts changing when you view the last episode "Blood Feud", and in season 3 the animation gets even better. This DVD set is worth your money, I suggest that you buy it.

Summary: Cool episodes, but there's a problem...
Review: Overall, I was very pleased with the First Season Simpsons box set. The Second Season box set is similar to the first one. Episode quantity, which is greater here, is the major difference. However, this does cause the price to be higher than the first season. An irritating feature of these DVDs is, when starting them, you have to press the "enter" button three times to properly arrange the heads of the characters onto the right bodies. This is cute the first few times, but it gets annoying after a while. [UPDATE: ANOTHER REVIEWER SAYS YOU CAN SKIP THIS WITH THE MENU BUTTON.] Another irritation is, like another reviewer pointed out, the lack of a "play all" button. When you want to watch an episode, you have to go through its menu. The extras department is also pretty lacking, too. First off is something from a music awards show. The only way that this is even related to the Simpsons is that a person in a Bart Simpson suit reads off the award nominees. Now that's a stupid extra. And there are two music videos, neither of which is anything special. To quote another reviewer, "'Do The Bartman' wasn't funny then, and it isn't funny now." There are also Butterfinger commercials featuring Simpsons characters, and these are actually pretty cool. Lastly there are interviews with cast and crew (which are the kind of extras every DVD needs.) In these interviews, you'll even discover the origin of the Simpson family members first names, which I won't give away in this review. Of course, you're realy buying this for the episodes, not anything else. TO MY KNOWLEDGE, THESE ARE THE COMPLETE VERSIONS, NOT THE ONES EDITED FOR SYNDICATION. The animation quality is slightly better than the first season, and most of the character development has occured. It's starting in this season that Homer's voice actor began using the tone of voice we now consider "normal." Also, many characters make their first appearance. Below is a list of every episode featured here, and a brief description. Bart Gets An F - After failing many tests, Bart is told he'd better start doing better on them or he will be held back. Simpson And Delilah - Homer grows hair with a new miracle cure, and gets a huge promotion at the power plant, as well as newfound happiness. Treehouse Of Horror - Part one of this now annual series features the Simpson family in a haunted house, being abducted by the aliens Kang and Kodos (who make their first appearance here), and Homer starring in a rendition of the Edgar Allan Poe story, The Raven. James Earl Jones contributes a guest voice to each part. Two Cars In Every Garage And Three Eyes On Every Fish - Mr. Burns runs for governor, and Homer backs him up, despite Marge's loyalty to the opposite candidate. Dancin' Homer - Homer gets drunk at a baseball game, and starts dancing around. He becomes the team mascot, and later the family moves to Capital City so Homer can be mascot for their baseball team. Dead Putting Society - Bart and Todd Flanders are entered into a miniature golf tournament. Homer and Ned make an agreement that the father of the loser must mow his lawn in his wife's best Sunday dress. Bart Vs. Thanksgiving - When Bart destroys Lisa's Thanksgiving centerpiece, he is told that he has ruined the holiday, and runs away from home. Bart The Daredevil - After seeing Captain Lance Murdock perform a death-defying jump on his motorcycle, Bart begins doing jumps on his skateboard, and decides to jump Springfield Gorge. Itchy And Scratchy And Marge - Marge protests against Itchy and Scratchy after observing the violent content. Bart Gets Hit By A Car - Mr. Burns hits Bart with his car while skateboarding. Lionel Huts agrees to help the Simpsons sue him for a million dollars. One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish - Homer is believed to have eaten poisonous blowfish. If this is the case, he will only have a day left to live. The Way We Was - After the TV is broken, Homer and Marge tell the story of how they first met in high school. Homer Vs. Lisa and the 8th Commandment - Homer gets an illegal cable hook-up, and Lisa won't stand for the violation of the commandment. Principal Charming - As a possible lover for Selma, Homer invites her and Patty and Principal Skinner to his home. Once there, Skinner falls for Patty instead. Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? - Homer meets Herb, his long-lost half brother, who turns out to be a millionaire, in the auto business. He tells Homer that he should design a car for the average man. Bart's Dog Gets An F - Homer threatens to get rid of the dog if it doesn't graduate from obedience school. Old Money - Grampa's new girlfriend suddenly dies, but she leaves him all of her money. Brush With Greatness - In the attic, Homer discovers Marge's old paintings of Ringo Starr. After this, Marge rediscovers her interest in art, and takes a college class. Mr. Burns asks Marge to paint a portrait of him. Lisa's Substitute - Lisa begins to admire the substitute teacher who fills in for Mrs. Hoover, despite his radically different teaching methods. The War Of The Simpsons - Homer gets dead drunk at a party, and Marge takes him to a marriage improvement seminar. Three Men And A Comic Book - Bart, Milhouse, and Martin put together a hundred dollars and buy the ultra-rare Radioactive Man issue #1. Blood Feud - When Bart gives blood to save Mr. Burns, he and Homer become outraged at the lack of a thank you gift. You may be wondering, what's the problem I mentioned in my review title? Simple. As another reviewer stated, SOME EPISODES ARE EDITED! Because the box fails to give the proper disclaimer, the set loses one star. It also loses another star due to the lack of good extras. Overall, this is a good box set, but die-hard Simpsons fans need to hold off and see if this set is rereleased with the edited episodes uncut. Though the rest of the set is good, such a flaw is unforgivable.

Review: this is a good dvd with lots of great features. The only reason that it gets 3 stars is that the simpsons had yet to hit there prime. The second season shows the simpsons rising towards the pleatue of greatness that lasted untill the late nineties. If you wanna have the best simpsons episodes on dvd wait for season 4 to be released.
