Summary: Sure-fire cure for insomnia...
Review: Even before I was a UC fan, when I was a "Winger," I found this series horribly boring. I think I only watched one episode... mostly I rewatched EW, which made GW a little more interesting.

Where do I begin... the characters are flat, stale, and wholely unlikable. The men are emotionally constipated pricks who ramble on about how they feel but never actually show it. The women, for some reason, drool over them anyway. Just like the fangirls of the series, I suppose. Btw, if anyone likes Wing for the romances, I seriously think that you need to explore more of what's out there.

As for the war, Wing's portrayal of war is absolutely horrible. There is no military structure. Maybe that doesn't bother you, seeing these pilots attack places like a sleeping military academy or shooting down planes. And maybe it doesn't bother you that none of the OZ grunts that are killed even have names, or say anything beyond "It's a Gundam!!!!!" And yes, the Gundams are invincible unless the plot calls for something to happen, in which case it does. I mean, Heero survives falling off of a freaking cliff...

As much as I hate to parrot the ol' UC argument, Zechs IS a Char ripoff. I hate how they made Relena Zechs' sister without ever even alluding to it before. It's just like "Hey, Relena, he's your brother." And the Cinq Kingdom thing was incredibly dumb. I liked how Relena went from a sheltered rich kid to a capable politician... of course, she is the most hated character in Wing, maybe because she actually develops.

I am very upset by people who say that MSG sucks because Amuro whines too much. Um, there are plenty of reasons to like MSG beyond Amuro. But I digress. Anyway, there are also people who say that we don't like Wing because we don't understand it. Hate to burst your bubble, but it's impossible to understand Wing, because it makes no sense. The philosophy is just there for the sake of making the show seem deep, and it works like a charm.

I don't know what to say now... frankly, I would not recommend Wing if you are looking for a good war story with intriguing politics and engaging characters. I'd recommend any other Gundam series over Wing, with the exception of SEED and SEED: D.

Summary: Best mecha anime of all time
Review: Gundam wing is the best gundam series ever. Even though it is not brand new and Gundam SEED animation is better, the story of Gundam Wing is the best ever. No repetetive zapft or zeon or other good vs evil crap. Gundam Wing is a story of politics a bit of love, and wars. 5 Gundams/Sanc Kingdom/Peace Million vs. United Earth Spere Aliance vs. Spetials/OZ/Romerfeller Foundation vs. Traize Faction vs. White Fang/colonies. Its an epic ballte of betrayal, manipulation, relatiation, pacifism, and guerilla warfare. This is the best Gundam story ever told.

This box set is worth its money for all 49 episodes. Other Anime of 26 episodes charge as much. Plus its a Collector's item.

But you have to buy Gundam Wing Endless Waltz (Spetial Edition)
to see a lot of unanswered questions and a completion of After Colony Universe.

Also you have to buy the OFFICIAL manga book Gundam Wing: Episode Zero to get all of your questions answered. It shows more flashback stories of 5 Gundams Relena Darlian Operation Meteor and has a story called Preventer 5 which is after Endless Waltz.
All Other Manga set between the 49 episodes and Endless Waltz (Battlefield Of Pasificsts, Ground Zero, Blind Target) are NOT official.

Summary: This is good
Review: The story is simple, It's an anime that targets children. But the way it is told and the characters with their evolution throughout the series makes it one of the best of Anime series. I like it better then the other Gundam Series and I've seen most of them. I watched this series as it was coming out in Japan catching what I could "across the pond".

The Colonies vs. The Opressive Earth, for the fight of peace (since the sides of Earth/Colonies changes in the story) stands 5 young soldiers/warriors/terrorits and their ultra powerful Gundam, Mechs of great power. At first they work towards the completion of their mission but they grow along with the conflict and they take the side of peace. Alone they are powerful and a force, but together (hence the wing; airforce term for a grouping of fighters/aircraft) they are powerful, taking on armies and ideals alike.

Hiro the classic dark loner, Troya the lost soul, Duo the thief and survivor, Wu-Fei the truest warrior and the youngest leader Quatre. But these are not the reason the series is so good. A good series is built on the supporting/minor characters without them the main characters have no to interact with.

The animation was very good for its time, and the english even though I like the Japanese is not bad (Both subtitle Translation and Dubbing) The music and soundtrack is realy good for Jap-Pop.

Why would you buy this? So you can have it all, watch and enjoy.

Summary: Shin Kido Gundam W [Mobile suit Gundam Wing]: Review
Review:
The 49 episode Gundam W series is not an Anime to be missed, it can be said to be far better than the other Gundams before and after it. Toonami/CN proved this all too well.

Basic Plot 5/5: The alternate Gundam series is set in the After Colony timeline and the year is A.C. 195, the earth sphere Alliance strangle hold over the colonies that surround earth is becoming stronger by the day now that they are backed a strong military force named OZ (Organization of the Zodiac), but several colony residents send five spaceships to earth in different locations to put a stop to OZ and the Alliance dead in its tracks when they least expect it. Thus Operation M. is put in motion and the fight to break this strangle hold over their beloved homes begins. The rest of the plot however turns out to be far more complex (because it deals with politics in war) and you won't be able to understand it the first time you watch it. There are no bad or good guys in this series and that will leave you contemplating on whom to like or dislike.

Animation 4/5: Gundam Wing's Animation isn't the best but it does improve as the show progresses. The Mecha animations are well done (This can be seen in Gundam Wing's opening, its all very fulid) but the sound affects to go with it can be a bit off at times and you'll find yourself trying not to say that aloud. The character animations are good as well, a bit stiff at times but rest of the time its fluid and almost human. The animation is Pretty good for a show made in 1995.

Music 5/5: The music composed by the underrated Kou Ohtani is compelling and goes well with the theme of the show. The rang of this music goes from angst, dramatic, and light hearted but never humorous or silly. The J-Pop for opening and Ending Themes are fun to listen to and love oriented to be expected. The two opening themes "Just Communication" and "Rhythm Emotion" are performed my TWO MIX, the performer for the ending theme "Just Love" is unknown. The soundtracks are not something to pass up.

Characters 4/5: Most of all the characters in Gundam W are not generic but original. The five Gundam pilots (Heero, Duo, Trowa, Quatre, and Wufei) are completely opposite personalties that anyone would find hard to dislike. Other main characters like Relena Darlain, and Zechs Merquirse along with many other casts of characters are refreshing despite their high ranks in the rich and military societies. OZ's Treize and Romafeller's Duke Dermail characters are the usual manipulative power hungry people (a majority of the organizations in GW will have plenty people to dislike), but Treize is so subduing that you'll find it hard not to like him.

Art 4/5: The art work in Gundam wing is great, the level of detail you'll find in faical and body features on the characters in the show is breath taking (they almost look incredibly human, but boring bland human you see in the Patlabor mobile police movies). The detail on simple vheicles like Limos, cars, motorcycles, Submarines, Mobile suits, and the Gundams themselves not to mention the array of weapons in the show are is also well done. Backgrounds for locations in the show that are all very real places and not made up (although are some fictional miltiary bases, etc.) are great and about as detailed as a cartoon background can be.

DVD 3/5: Each uncut DVD version of Gundam Wing contains 5 episodes on 10 DVDs, with choice of English or Japanese Audio with English subtitles for the Japanese Dub only. Unlike the 'kid-friendly' version that was aired on Toonami afternoons, the uncut version contains mild-to not so mild swearing and blood. The extra features on the DVD are not spectacular; they contain brief bios on OZ soldiers, Relena Darlain, and the Gundam pilots themselves along with mecha information the Gundams and other mobile suits themselves. The other features are trailers from other anime series (like Escaflowne, and other Gundam series). This is disappointing, some features on how the show was made or some Japanese/English trailers and TV spots would have been nice.

Overall: Shin Kido Gundam W [Mobile suit Gundam Wing] DVDs gets a 3 and half stars, while the show despite its slight flaws in animation and sound effects gets a Five outa Five.

Summary: GOOD AND BAD AT THE SAME TIME
Review: First off, a few words for the idiot 2 reviews ahead of me: You are stupid(which I guess the word idiot implies...). Yes, Zechs looks like Char. There is a character in Gundam Seed that looks like both of them. Being that its all Gundam, they have RECURRING THEMES on occasion. You know, like a Cid in every Final Fantasy. On the Wu Fei thing, hello, honor or not he was outnumbered terribly. Head on fighting would be suicide. Finally, yes the Gundams are nearly invincible. Did you see when Zechs first piloted Tallgeese, the Gundam prototype? He nearly died of heart failure. Only the Best can pilot a Gundam. Do people b***h about only Arthur being able to draw Excalibur from the stone? I rest my case.

Now that my rant is done, on to the review. Gundam is an excellent anime. Very good animation, cool characters, and a very gripping plot. It is not nearly as confusing as suggested by some, you just can't miss episodes because the plot turns on a dime. THe main idea of the story is simple enough though: Five young pilots in incredible machines dispatched to save the colonies. But is that all there really is to their mission? Is so much bloodshed worth it when the brutal cycle of war and death merely continues? How can one continue to fight for colonies that reject your cause? Is man made to fight and kill for glory? Both sides struggle mightily with these issues, and more...

Heero; the ultimate warrior, Duo; happy-go-lucky kid with a dark side, Trowa; equal parts cold, calculating, and caring, Quatre; the reluctant fighter with a heart of gold, and Wu Fei; the proud cynic who fights for his own brand of justice: these are the pilots of the Gundams, the symbols of hope in these sad times. Along the way they meet many who help shape their fates as well as those of all humanity: Zechs; the incredible OZ prodigy and confused soldier, Trieze; the enigmatic mastermind and master fighter, and Relena; the girl diplomat whose picks up no weapon but moves mountains with her words.

Do yourself a favor and see what happens to them in this wonderful 49 episode series. It's about more than war, its about the struggle within the hearts of people to truly change, and transcend our beast-like nature. Check it out(with an OPEN MIND, dammit), - and I bet you'll love it. It's not perfect(some reused animation and quite a few static characters), but it is still my favorite anime series ever, even ahead of the exalted Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. So see it, but be careful - those who see a Gundam rarely live to tell the tale.

Summary: Gundam Wing, good gundam series
Review: Gundam Wing is one of the more subvalued series of the last time. It is wanted to it to compare to the first Gundam series, when its proposal, although has relation with the other series in which it refers the war, it is different.
Again we see conflict between colonies, but this time the development of the personages goes beyond common human relations, that it is the enriching thing of the other Gundam series, but that united sees hard
the political conflict much more, and unlike the other series, all people in conflict look for the same aim, peace, but of different form. Each character has his own truth, could be said that no of them such shares ideal, except for when Relena begins to grow, to become woman (Sanc's Kingdom).

The psychological development of the main personages is excellent: Relena, a "poor rich girl" who become an idealistic and strong woman, and Heero Yui, a machine to kill that it returns to be human and to appreciate the life. This development is obtained throughout all the series thanks to the human relations between the characters.

But more hard of this series it is the subject of the different
visions, a mysterious guy like Treize that only at the end of the series we know its real objective, or the inconsistency of Zechs, that only by his search of the perfect soldier often changes of side throughout the series, or the facist Wu Fei, (that supposedly is of the good guys) with his way to understand justice, shows a series to us that enriches the Gundam universe in other edges.

Saying that Gundam Wing is a bad series for taking many elements from previous Gundam series is an irresponsibility, for two reasons: first, many great authors have done this (Sergio Leone and his exclente film
For a Fistful of Dollars, which is a remake of Yojimbo, or many works of William Shakespeare), etc. Second, and it is most important, because
it allows the new fan of mech series to want to know the series
previous. Gundam Wing is not my favorite Gundam series (my favorite
is the OAV collection War in the Pocket), is not the best one nor the most obtained (like the set of the Universal Century), but is excellent and a very good Gundam series to begin to discover this world. What I
can assert that is one of the best anime series of the last
times.
