Review: If you put Batman, Superman, Spiderman & The Power Rangers all together they all look like sissy's compared to Spawn. When Batman or Superman stand still so does their cape, but Spawn's cape is flowing whether he's moving or not! Then there's his added features: His chains that have jaws deadlier than a bear's trap! Spawn is a human cameleon, transfering into whatever it takes to do what needs to be done. Life has the same choices. Spawn for "Good", Clown for "Bad".

Review: Only watched the first 30 min. a total waste of time. The clown thing is a bad joke.

Review: The special effects in this movie are out of this world. Lots of humorous scenes help this movie to stand out. But, unfortunately to many jumpy, skips, only makes this movie 3 stars.

Review: While the special effects were fantastic, the villians were constantly annoying, Spawn has the macho meter on overdrive non stop, and the series as a whole was a bad choice for a 2 hour movie. My advice? et the animated version.

Review: As minorities move into the film industry without an idea that such has occurred as demostrated in the filming of spawn. The top three actors in the film are two hispanics and a black american. I feel that once the film industry opens up its doors an depicts minorities as average next door Americans the impact of acceptance in the main stream will be more powerful than enforcing affirmative action programs.

Summary: A special effects feast
Review: The storyline is a bit dark, and in my oppinion for mature audiences only. If you are a fan of the action movie genre, and you don't mind the dark tone of the movie you need to own this one. For those of you that own a nice home theater system this movie is a must. It is filled with a bunch of beutiful and state of the art, visual effects as well as a top notch surround soundtrack. In a word buy this one!!!!

Summary: Spawn, a true sci-fi movie
Review: I enjoyed Spawn to the utmost. A friend introduced me to the comic book, then I saw the movie. The special effects were awesome, the storyline smooth, and the clown's one-liners were hilarious. The commentary was quite enlightening, to say the least. If you buy this DVD, watch it with the commentary. If you were curious about the slice of pizza that the clown eats, you'll be amazed at what REALLY happened. If you have little or no imagination, I don't recommend this movie. But if you do, this is a MUST buy!

Summary: This might very well be the Worst movie ever!
Review: This movie, although filled with effects-a-plenty, is one of the worst ever made. Not only was it taken as far as possible from the original highly popular Spawn comics series, but the adult themes in the comics were trashed in order to make a fittingly rated movie. The movie was made clearly for money alone, which explains the sequel that's on it's way - nothing was put into making a descent script or having good acting. All they relay on are the special effects and stupidty of viewers....

Summary: Expensive special effects can't hide "cheap" storyline.
Review: Although no longer an avid reader of the Spawn comic book this reader could tell that the movie was a big departure from the comic storyline to cover the break-up with one-time best pals Rob Liefeld and Todd McFarlane. The substitution of "Chapel" with "Priest" as Al Simmons murderer is lame and so unbelievable that it turns off most Spawn readers. For a man so insistent on doing things his own way it's sad to see that McFarlane buckled under the pressure to change his story to suit Hollywoods demands. Further proof of this is evidenced by changing one of the main characters from black to white. The touting of the movie as being the "special effects" movie of the year reveals that this may be the only thing going for the movie. However, the scenes of Malebogia in hell were very cheesy and so computer-animated looking that you'd think it belonged in Disney's "Toy Story" which was an infinitely more entertaining movie. The movie is most prophetic in revealing the nature of McFarlane in his cameo role. In short the movie is a "bum!" People began walking out of the movie half-way through while the show manager ushered them to a free showing of "Jerry McGuire." Being a former Spawn fan I did stay for the duration to see the final credits. I was impressed that McFarlane got Crystal Method to play the theme music although it was too loud and not up their usual standards. This movie did little for Michael Jaleel White's career except maybe guarantee him the starring role in Spawn II which I'm afraid will suffer the same curse as Rocky V, that being one Spawn movie too many. Oh well, maybe this time McFarlane can get it right and have his cameo-character get his heart ripped out by the Violator--just like he ripped the heart out of this movie. END

Summary: Will This Film Spawn Another Sequel? Let's Hope Not!
Review: Dreary and forgettable "super(anti-)hero" flick based upon Todd McFarland's comicbook character. SPAWN is an interesting antihero, but ultimately the background and origin of the character which manifests repeatedly during the film depresses the movie. He is a hell-spawned creature given a chance to live outside of damnation by becoming an agent of hell and walk among the living. This is heavy-handed and boggs down the the story and Spawn himself. If Batman's origin which also manifests throughout the course of the history of the character (his parents get murdered in front of him) is a downer, Spawn's is just too much depressing. The visual special effects that depict the hellish atmosphere are graphic and detailed. However, who wants to be reminded of going to hell every second of the movie. Then there is John Leguizamo as "Clown" playing one of the most annoying characters in recent cinema history (up there with Jar Jar Binks). Finally, Spawn pining over losing his wife and seeing her married to, and having a child with another man (his best friend of all people)is another depressing aspect of the movie. Only thing noteworthy is seeing a rare film appearance by actor Nicol Williamson (EXCALIBUR)as Cogliostro, Spawn's mentor. Overall,a Grade B flick that has no universal appeal whatsoever. SPAWN's main theme is death and hell (not necessarily in that order), with a depressing title character, a depressing origin,depressing plot and story, depressing looking visuals of the afterlife, and one annoying Clown (Leguizamo).
